  1. ^Agreed really looking forward to this, thanks and good luck!
  2. Well if there were a Zombie apocalypse we might be able to escape in a Ka-50 or A-10C. I'm really stretching it here (way more than I should)!
  3. I actually use no anti-virus or spyware protection. I also don't use my PC for e-commerce or surf questionable sites (its just my personal taste). I hate the wasted system resources from using such programs, but I understand I'm part of a small base that DOES NOT use these types of programs. My justification is everything is backed up and if something cripples my system I re-install everything. So far been using this strategy for 10+ years with no issues yet. But one of my main reasons is for the issues your describing in this thread!
  4. Probably a good idea to disable anti-spy/virus progs, and ensure you have no prog. running like PeerBlock or a firewall. No other internet related issues with other games or prog.s? Just throwing stuff out but I'm really thrown off lol.
  5. Do you have the latest patch to make FC2 and KA-50 online compatible? That may be the problem, just a guess though.
  6. My guess is your trying to assign it under Keystrokes and not Axis Commands. I think someone may have mentioned this already.
  7. It doesn't detect it by just moving it back or forth?
  8. Nice work with the monitors really like how the pit's display system worked for you.
  9. Very cool Walker the bug has bit you! Can't wait to see it evolve as it surely will!
  10. They would have eaten the fat kid on the 2nd week!
  11. I agree in part with Grimes but I'll take the wait and see approach (I don't own nor plan to own a 360 anyways). The Wii in games like Sports Resort is cool ie: Bowling, Swords, Ping Pong, Golf, etc..... but I have to agree that any game that requires frequent "waggling" gets old real quick. I more or less stick to family oriented type games like Sports Resort, Wii Fit, Mario Kart, etc.... since the motions involved in those games seems to come off well. Games like Red Steel, Force Unleashed for example got pretty old real quick. Obviously Natal seems much more promising as well as cooler, but I don't see myself getting one or a 360. Really looking forward to where it goes though!
  12. LOL Way off on my part! But I was right about the collective being the control that makes the helo go up or down. In any case thanks for the correction good learning experience for me, ouch that ruler hurts. EDIT: Guess my pre-apology was well founded!
  13. No the collective lever controls the power to the rotor blades in a helo which makes it go up and down (more or less). Next to the cyclic there is probably no more important a control in a helo save rudder pedals. The throttles in the KA-50 are automatic, that adjust power with collective control movements. A collective controller may not be for everyone (to each their own) but for some (like me and Hannibal up above) once you go collective you never go back, I haven't yet..... The brake is a component of the collective to hold the lever at a desired setting (more or less). And the collective brake lever is part of the autopilot system that does in fact hold altitude. But they both compliment each other and the collective is still the primary control you'd use to go up/down regardless of the autopilot functions. I think that if the A/P was off the collective "brake" would serve no purpose. Apologies in advance for any guesswork contained above!
  14. The two pcs of wood on each side of the shaft (you got me to type shaft lol) is lined with the felt side of velcro tape. It's basically just pinched and has never moved on its own. I originally used the adhesive weather stripping you use on an exterior door but it grabbed way too much and developed divots that the shaft (thats twice lol) falls into and hinders movement. Since applying velcro tape its perfect. Remember that the AV8R is a very lightweight joystick so it doesn't require much pressure to hold it in place. All I used were the two pcs of wood, two pcs of plexiglass and the velcro. You just have to be careful and accurate when drilling the holes into the base. I could give more details if you're interested in trying it. I also have to add that you can program most of the real KA-50 collective controls to the AV8R too even though you have to use your imagination. I use the dual throttles for the shark throttles or the trigger for collective brake for instance. In any case it works for great for my needs.
  15. This issue used to kill me trying to figure it out. It all had to do with an improperly installed skin like others have mentioned. It would work fine whenever I hosted a mission but when I'd get onto DCS-Mercenaries server my textures were gone due to not having their skin installed right. The killer for me is I never realized that was the problem, to me it worked sometimes and then didn't work others! I can relate to the frustration as I had the problem for months before it was discovered.
  16. Well that is the state of affairs for simulation input devices (we take what we can get or build it). That said you can build a pretty convincing collective from a Saitek AV8R stick. Check out this thread on how to do it. The project doesn't cost much more than the initial price of the stick too! http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/2711990/Re_A_Good_Joystick_to_Hack.html#Post2711990 Just scroll through, I should add you DO NOT need to take the thing apart even. I only dismantled mine to pull the spring out in case I ever wanted to use it as a stick again. It was a complete waste of time the AV8R will forever remain a collective! Feel free to ask any questions
  17. As I prepare to install the new Black Shark patch I'm a little hesitant to do so until I'm sure I've backed it up. The most critical file to me is the HOTAS/Keyboard command file. I have six separate USB devices and it's a big task to re-do it. Can someone point me in the right direction to what file/s contain the joystick/keyboard configuration? Thanks for the help!
  18. Lee Major's would whoop Chuck's @$$ EDIT: Alright I'll get back on topic!:megalol:
  19. ^All down to how good the mission builder is. Besides its much easier to point out flaws in a simulation than its strengths. I have to disagree with your take on Vympel's claims, I've flown a fair amount of different missions with great briefings and situations that can change depending on triggers, and I don't come to the same conclusion. But to each their own.
  20. ^^Vikhr's? Meh, I'll dispatch any fighter plane with my knife. It's a really big knife...........
  21. ^Yeah thats what I do, in my experience DCS sets whatever axis you program to correct parameters anyways (ie: Pull the stick back it sets pitch up, stick forward = pitch down etc.....).
  22. Better yet the best way to learn is to jump on a server preferably one with Team Speak or Ventrilo and fly with real people. I learned a great deal just flying with friends.
  23. Thanks for the screens! Patiently waiting to join in the fun!
