  1. I guess the lack of things such as trees does potentially open up the possibilty of using higher quality objects eleswhere though and possibly even more detailed terrain tiles?. Like you Im hoping for decent performance as a result of the reduction in trees although Im sure there will be mainland locations less barren.
  2. I wouldnt even consider risking a heath robinson job using an 8 year old PSU on a £1200 (min) card. I attempted something like that way back with a 2008 Antec Neo 480 and a GTX 1060. Blew the MB, RAM and killed the fans on the card.
  3. And its a work in develpment. Even in in this early stage it does massively improve the look of night ops on the carrier though it does come with quite a heafty performance hit. Visally the shadows are perhaps a little too deep in comparison with the existing dark areas on the deck and are quite unrefined. Much less of an inssue when in the cockpit than in external view Ive found.
  4. He is - it was all on me. Cant say I blame him - id have blocked me too. In end (to answer the OPs quastion) Ill take the Harrier and a shed load of fuel tanks- best of both worlds (fuel allowing)
  5. My tests differ The truck has a max range from the launcher of 175M, any launcher within that radius will be resupplied (the circle around the M939 is 200M roughly) Launchers are resupplied 8 mins after the last missile leaves the rail. If launcher 1 empties at 10mins and Launcher 2 empties at 11 mins launcher 1 will be resupplied at 18mins and launcher 2 at 19mins. There is no clock reset on the truck after resupply even with a single truck. Clocks appear to apply to the lanchers only. I tested with 4 launchers. The first missle left the rails at 10:52 mins, the last at 14:44 mins, leaving all launchers empty - all launchers where resupplied fully by 23:30 mins (completion was likely a little faster but I couldnt slow down the time acceleration fast enough!!) using a single truck. The HAWK can, like all other SAMs be forced to reduce its engagment range using the Advanced Waypont Actions menu/set options/interception range. Tested and the range enforcment works as intended. LIke all SAMs the AI isnt smart enough to hold a full launcher in reserve or use launcher sequentially when appropriate. It fires what it has from the closest launcher (??) to the target that has it at the time leaving the battery potentially at risk of a secondary overwhelming package. Using a dual array (so battery of say 4 set to an interpetions range of 70% and a second battery of 1 or 2 set to an interpetion range of 40-50%) or setting up the ME trigger to wake up the point defence sam's AI in a red state only if an aircraft enters a defined trigger zone ((there may well be other smarter options)) may be a workaround. Hope this helps EDIT - there is a smarter way to reserve launchers - pick the launchers you want to keep in reserve and name there UNITS -create a min range trigger zone - Use a mission start UNIT AI OFF trigger for the reserved launchers then create a switched condition using the approrpiate "IN ZONE" rule to set UNIT AI ON and a switched condition "OUT OF ZONE" condition to switch the AI back off when the threat dimishies. I guess setting the Groups State to RED may reduce reaction times but Im not sure and I can only get it work once for some reason likely down to my own lack of ME undstanding. I think you could also create random trigger flags to switch the conditions for the units keep the emeny guessing as to whether a site is keeping its powder dry or not (to a degree) Simple Miz example attached test.miz
  6. Yeah I was quite rude to Rudel_chw so that quite understandable and I regret that. I apologised immediiately but I shouldnt have been such a tool in the first instance. Its his choice. I still fly DCS cos I do enjoy many aspects of it. That doesnt mean I am able to ignore some of its less great features that affect that enjoyment. That that over 7 years Ive ploughed £1100 into modules and £4 or 5K into PC and gear to play it is also a factor. In that time ive interoduced 5 or 6 friends to to it. I dont really need bringing into light any more than others need to take their rose tinted sunglasses off. Different strokes. Syria gets a lot of praise, some of it I think is deserved, some not. It has glaring issues with draw distances and performance that have never been addressed. But it sells and is often held up to being the new standard. That being the case, why then would anyone else need to worry if their map is sub par performance wise? Why worry if lorrys hang of hills? Why worry if tarmaced areas drip down cliff edges or map object SAM sites are not level or building and trees do not fully resolve until you are 500M from them? A large proportion of the vocal minority of players who use forums are clearly not triggered by such things. Thats great. Each to their own. Being barracked (however gently) as a naysayer or referenced in the third person like im a not in the room wont disuade me for my opinon that Syria risks setting an unwelcome precedent in standards or that there a some aspect of DCS that aint great and need to be bumped up the the to do list. I am looking forward to the SA. Just as many couldnt look look past some of the Harriers issues for the longest time, Im was a happy idiot in it. I love Razbam stuff. Flaws and all, their modules have soul. From the sceenies this seems to have transferred into thier maps. But I will wait for the dust to settle as I no longer have a great deal of faith that the quailty control ED sets for its own maps extend to 3rd parties.
  7. Does after EA mean after EA release or actually after the product goes complete . Just thinking as Murderers spend less time in clink than a DCS module spends in EA.
  8. As a helo player it Drives me nuts. All that detail wasted on unchecked topography, a render distance made to suit Mr Magoo and bugs that have been around so long theyre about to be inducted into the R&R hall of fame. er… ymmv
  9. Works automatically if a suitable truck is within 175M of the launcher AND the hawk has loosed all its 3 missiles (i think). Ive just run a very simple test with a single hawk launcher and an M939 truck parked about 100M away. Re-supplied in 8 mins as advertised. Hawk does require all the missiles on a launcher to have launched before re-supply starts. Placed a second lanncher an equal distance from the truck for a second run - this also re-supplied 8 mins after last missile was fired from its rails along with the first launcher. So it seesm any launcher within 175M of a suitable truck will be re-supplied regardless of how many others the truck is also servicing. All auto AI Id suggest no bug.
  10. I’d go for the second option but the first makes no more sense than the current offering of 2016 given many of airframes and system available are now retired. And superseded. .
  11. OvGME relies on a file hierarchy In every instance. If you direct to the saved games root folder you will need to create a mod archive structure similar to this. Mods\tech\SAM assists pack. It doesn’t matter if the mods folder or tech folder already exist in your Saved Games folder or they don’t. Without the folder hierarchy the mod will just be placed in the main directory because OVGME only knows to place whatever it sees as the first folder in the place it’s directed to. To create the OVGME archive those files will need to be put them into a header folder with a name you can recognise as being that specific mod. So for instance SAM ASSET PACK\Mods\tech\High Digits Sam Asset Pack. This is then zipped by OvGME when you create the mid archive. When activated OVGME will unzip the contents of the archive, Mods/\tech\High Digits Sam Asset Pack. into the root directory and windows will take care of merging (or creating if there isn’t already a folder with that name) the folders and their contents into the saved games directory. hipe I’ve explained this well enough.
  12. I get the logic and will plus 1 to a degree it but wars are dynamic and destuction varies over time dependent upon what each side has the hots for on any partuclar day. For instance Pointe Du hoc on the 5h June and Pointe Du Hoc 7th June are very different places...... Caen changes significantly over a month period....etc
  13. Im going to wait to see if its hobbled like Syria or its well made.
  14. do you or did you have FSX or Prepar3D? I dont think its DCS causing your issues but something somewhere else in your PC
  15. OvGME absolutely yes - every mod i use is placed with this mod manager - I set the OvGME directory just to the root folder not the mods folder but its really a personal choice. Setting to to the root keeps your options open for other stuff although 99% of what I use OvGME for can be found in the mods folder. Creating a mods folder wont hurt anything .
  16. Assuming the MOD and manufacturers suddenly became DCS friendly, I dont see the SA map being a factor for a GR 5 as there is no historical contex. At a push the current PG and Syria maps better suit the type with a dose of salt. Of course there are what if scenarios but thats rabbit hole of personal viewpoints that I doubt any Dev would crawl down and pin a product on. SA in its 1982 mooted guise is perhaps much more a factor for a SHARs and GR3s as, without it, there is little currently on offer map wise that gives them any contex either.
  17. That FSCAI folder is to do with FSX/Prepar3D. Is it fanware? Im afraid I know nothing about either sim but it appears to be issue in terms of how its shifted the locations of your Saved Games folder. I cant look any further as the links to its download are dead for me. All I can really find are a few references to it on google most of which are highlighting problems various.
  18. My comments were more about the impact of the dark on the game and the SC in particular than the secondaries alone. I would also say my experience is based on my own demanding expectations as much as anything else. Having taken a longer look, the overall impact of the secondaries alone for me is about 10fps at night worst case- there is no difference during the day. For the added fidelity that the shdows bring, I would say this is more acceptable. Less pleasing is the impact of the darkness in general on the SC which, in combination with the secondaries knock 30fps off in worst case (20fps on its own). The largest impact I see is when looking over from EL4 onto a deck with a busy 6 pack, Street , Junk Yard and Patio. Not surprising of course as this position provides the widest view of the deck, and with many objects comes many shadows and cast calulations in additioan to thier own baggage. I could of course start on a vacant carrier and enjoy 120 fps but that would be a hollow experience. Im not sure how full your carrier deck is. My original template used 5 loaded FA18Cs on the 6 pack, 4 lower res F18Cs behind them, 2 E2s, 2 SH60s and 2 F14s as statics plus a lot of deck crew and other items. The modded version also used an C2 Greyhound, 2 EA6B and Ratos Seahawks as replacements for the stock SH60s. So its a lot and I accept that. Even so, its holds up a decent 70-85 fps even in the Tomcat (10 fps more in the F18) during the day. Ive now adjusted some of the missions so I start on the 6 pack and with a slightly reduced number of objects in that area (minus 4 FA18Cs). This improves matters a little (10fps roughtly which is likely the down to the absence of the aircraft models rather than the lighting) and enough to keep my rate up beyond the magic vsync 60 at least in the Hornet). As a tade off it isnt so bad either. For now, its an acceptable compromise given the integrity the shadows bring to the deck. In time though, I really hope to see less of a hit in the night performance in general though and some refinement to the secondaries in time.
  19. My money is on the miriad of complex and rotatng antenna. Unreststricted, the fps rises and falls in line with the rotation. They make for complex and ever changing shadows and many have aspects to draw and compute
  20. Easiest way to look at is is that the Save games folder contains stuff ED dont mind you messing with, whilst the main directory is generally their backyard. Stuff in the Saved Games folder wont get overwritten when a new patch arrives, stuff in te main root will. Most mods will sit in the Saved Games folder. The issue comes when those mods take up more spece than you have (it happens), happily you can create your saved games folder on any drive ---but thats a dog of a different colour.
  21. Are you definately checking your folder in your SAVED GAMES directory and not the games own root folder. Saved Games is generally located on your system drive under "Programs/Users/**YOUR USER PROFILE.** If you are looking in the right place and as silly as it sounds you are just missing those folders. I thought the Mods folder was a given but it makes no real difference. You can create them yourself. In the main directory (where the folders like "missions" and "liveries" are locaed, just make a new folder called "Mods", in that folder create anther one called "tech" - you can also add folders for "aircraft" and "Services" as these will serve other mods- remember to watch for what has capital letters and what doesnt (not sure if it makes a difference but PCs run on witchcraft). And thats it although its always a wise move to use a mod manager like OvGME to as this makes troubleshooting and updating mods easier down the line. Good luck
  22. That’s not fixing anything. Without secondaries there are no shadows at all. Which looks even worse Secondary shadows have a couple of issues at present mainly the low resolution but they are also little too strong I feel. There not exactly a negligible performance hit either. Environmental shadows in general are not great in DCS. Whilst I see the thread is marked “in development” I’m not encouraged that the feature is being built on less than solid foundations although they remain better than nothing ,
  23. Typical. You wait all day for an Airforce One.............
  24. Im left a little frustrated by the SC night ops as they cain my system down to 58 fps (lower in an F14) on an occupied deck when looking towards the 6 pack area whick k-nackers my vsync. The E2C doesnt play nice either if its launching close by where you spawn. The only real solution is to loose the (jaggly) secondary shadows or loose the deck life and move the E2 away. Not ideal. 1080P on a 3080 Id hoped for better.
