  1. Yes, Tempest V and Typhoon seem unlikely unfortunately. Spit XIV would be good, and it does seem to fit securely into the low hanging fruit box.
  2. The Uhu and the P61. Coolest looking and correspondingly most overrated aircraft of WW2…?
  3. Beaufighter would be good generally, and modelling wise it’s like a big fighter with the single seat cockpit. Cannons, bombs, RPs, torps, lots of fun. Useful for the PTO also.
  4. The 262 isn’t just another jet. I’ve no doubt you could model the 262 with some vague approximation of its systems, engine performance and importantly weakness, but you’d be making most of it up. I’d imagine modelling the Jumo 004s accurately would be a very difficult task.
  5. I’m sure it’s high on the low hanging fruit list and the P38s rabid fans would buy it in droves DCS P38 would be very interesting.
  6. P61 was too expensive, too big, too heavy, too slow (A/B), and err too late. It does look cool though…
  7. The level of graphics, flight physics and systems modelling is stratospheric compared to 15 years ago though. If you want a product with 10 flyables and 30 AI for £30 I’m sure it could be done in 2021 but not with the level of simulation detail that’s present in DCS products. One thing that’s noticeable abut the DCS warbirds is how different the FMs are, there’s no cookie cutter creations with a few values changed here.
  8. Yes. I though the idea was to remove the roofs from building so the incendiaries would fall inside and burn the buildings from the inside out. They also could destroy utilities like water and electricity making fire fighting more difficult. Germany did the same with parachute mines, they contributed to the 1940 Coventry firestorm.
  9. I’m intending to use the separate WH throttles for throttle and one of the WH throttle rocker switches for prop pitch. At least on takeoff I imagine that both props will be set to loud while the throttles will need to be manipulated independently. I’m hoping this, while not ideal, will work OK.
  10. Aye. The article suggests the Cranfield engine is in “running condition” and that there are some running examples in the US. There’s just not a lot of evidence for actually running Sabres online.
  11. Running Sabres really?
  12. I think Nick Grey said the Tempest II was more possible than the Tempest V. I’d guess that’s because Centaurus engined Sea Fury’s are relatively common. No one’s had a Napier Sabre running for a long long time unfortunately.
  13. Well that died on its arse
  14. I agree about historic documents, the PTO (and Eastern Front) is well known for its lack of historical records. However ED aren’t trying to prepare packs containing several planes for £20. For the P47 they were prepared to perform new wind tunnel work to generate their own data. It’s a different level of simulation and a new way of generating FM.
  15. The 208 Guardian version is intended to deploy SF troops either on the ground or by para drop, it the remains in overwatch and can provide ISR and fire support if needed with up to 8 Hellfire or 14 Hydra or APKWS. I can imagine some very cool missions if it had animated deplorable troops.
  16. Was the Ta-152 the only 190 to have both MW50 and GM1 nitrous?
  17. With a sigh I agree 100%.
  18. The exhaust design can provide additional thrust as well, quite a lot of thrust.
  19. I use the Yak if I want to give someone a go on my sim rig. If they’ve never flown on the PC before there’s no point in starting them with much else in DCS. With the Yak they can generally get off the ground themselves after a couple of attempts, fly around then land. There’s no way they will be able to handle one of the jets or warbirds, even the L39 is too difficult. I use the Yak if I want to give someone a go on my sim rig. 20. Excellent post. Given the map we have and the Mosquito an AI Typhoon would be very useful. Obviously flyable would be immense but that seems unlikely.
  21. Combat Caravan would be interesting. I wouldn’t be adverse to DCS 172 though
  22. The USSR and Western allies put a lot of effort into recovering information about and then evaluating aircraft from Germany and Japan. Particularly in the case of Germany their designers quite often continued to work in aviation after the war. With this in mind why would current designs be different when allied and axis technology was pretty much fused after WW2?
  23. I have the CEII but much prefer EDs FM for the Yak. The Yak feels dynamic and handles in a similar way to EDs other warbirds, the CEII just feels a bit odd still somehow. I must admit I don’t understand why ED doesn’t just finish it. It’s a relatively simple plane and adding some polish would stop the moaning. Maybe there’s more missing under the hood than is apparent.
  24. I fly it quite often, I like the FM, it has an SBD vibe. It’s completely different to anything else in DCS and as a GA aircraft the lack of DM doesn’t bother me. I can fly round the maps MSFS checking out the scenery, landing anywhere. But then I’m one of those people that would buy and enjoy a DCS 172. I’d wait for it be on sale before picking it up, why not, but for the few £ I paid I’ve probably had more fun/£ return than many of my other DCS purchases.
  25. It’s interesting that apparently the Westland Whirlwind had L and R handed RR Peregrines but the Mosquito made do with R handed Merlins. It seems RR wanted to turn out as many engines as possible and the leanest way to do this was to simplify production wherever possible. Part of the reason for the Whirlwind’s cancellation was RR wanting to reduce the number of work streams in its factories so the Merlin was chosen over the Peregrine. The Mosquito having R handed only Merlins must have been viewed as a compromise worth making early war although L and R Merlins clearly had advantages as the Dh Hornet had them later.
