I can imagine that keeping warm when you can stand and walk about a bit is an entirely different situation to being sat down and immobile for the whole mission. I’d guess operating the controls in a P38 will probably require dexterity that will prevent very thick gloves also. From what I’ve read pilots were debilitated by the cold flying long missions at altitude in the P38. Frostbite was a very real problem.

Bouchon’s are an abomination…

There was the Sperry AVS for low level bombing also. Similar to the Sperry but with an added mechanical computer and visual aid for release below 1000ft. A bit like CCIP in WW2.

cannot reproduce Elevator trim sensitivity/overall control sensitivity

I posted an article in the P51 thread written by an F16 pilot recounting his experiences flying the P51. He reported that the P51 required constant trimming and he had to have his hands on the stick at all times, he also added that his F16 was pretty much the same and couldn’t be trimmed hands off for more than 10 seconds, even with its FBW systems. -
Surely convergence will be tiny as all the guns are mounted in the nose.

UK version would be nice.

I’d rather it was ED, but beggars can’t be choosers…

The difference in systems modelling between DCS and other sims is vast. Nick Grey has said the Tempest II is more likely than the Tempest V presumably as there’s commonality between the Tempest II and the many flyable Centaurus powered Fury’s that exist. Don’t get me wrong, I’d love an ED Typhoon and Tempest V I just can’t see ED doing them currently. However… we’ve seen that the bar for 3rd party projects is much lower. Just because ED won’t peruse these aircraft doesn’t mean that a 3rd party dev won’t.

Anti-collision light on bottom is missing.

A utility/unarmed version would be nice someday. -
Talks about the P51 stall being “vicious” only “slight” buffeting felt before the flip. Interesting comments about trimming hands off also, which he says is impossible. https://www.flyingmag.com/aircrafts/pistons/jet-jockey-flies-p-51-mustang/

You’d think that a flyable C47 would make a good test project for further larger multi crew aircraft in future. The Mosquito is almost a twin single seater. It’s large but doesn’t have the complexity of multiple crew stations. It would have similar handling and engine systems to a medium bomber like the Ju88 or B25 but would be far simpler.

I seem to remember reading that the B17 engine fire extinguishers were viewed as ineffective so removed from the later models to save weight. I’m not sure how true that is though or if it’s another in the very long list of WW2 myths…

The Channel Map really is quite tiny. It looks great but you can fly from edge to edge quite quickly even in the WW2 aircraft. I don’t regret buying it but I hope the intention is to expand it at some point.

There is a thread about the C47/DC3/Dakota already. Somethings going on it seems.

ED have said not.

It’s the same in race sims. There. are effects generated by the physics of the game, aero forces on the control surfaces in this instance, and canned rumble effects that jerk the stick around representing gunfire or hits. I’ve never really been a fan of the pure physics stuff being masked by rumble effects but each to their own. Race sims tend to have complex options so you can include, exclude or adjust the level of the generated forces separately. I’ve never seen those sort of options in a flight sim, although I’ve not used an FFB stick for a while.

What I see there are pilots using a long runway to tip toe onto the ground with minimum sink rate. It looks like they are really trying hard to avoid bouncing. Most of the bouncy landings people video from DCS have much larger sink rates than that. Most of the guys flying real warbirds are very skilled.
