These Pacific maps may be large but there’s a lot of jungle and plenty of water. Surely that’s less complicated than modelling towns/cities in Western Europe.

Being a couple of feet away from an unmuffled Merlin must be pretty loud… I doubt closing a plexi canopy is going to make it much quieter. Of course it’ll do wonders for the aerodynamics though.

I can only assume that mgs mounted on the cowling without dispersion we’re much more effective than wing mounted mgs. If you’re hitting then you’re getting more bullets on target. More like a power hose than a sprinkler… It seems Japanese pilots were aware of the weakness of their armament and to counter this tried to aim for cockpit shots mostly. For heavy bombers a head on attack was preferred. You will down a B29 even if you make a mess of the cockpit.

The I-16 is 3rd party and sits comfortably alongside EDs in house warbirds.

Records of lost aircraft and air combat by US and UK airforces have survived pretty well so with research claims can be cross referenced. The Mosquito kills are also detailed in one of Christopher Shores books. The top scoring P47 PTO ace Neel Kearby was shot down by Ki43s in mid 1944. Second overall scoring US WW2 P38 ace Thomas McGuire was killed in January 1945 in combat with a flight of Ki43s. The point is that Japan had fewer good pilots by 1944, not none. The 1944 A6M and Ki43 were very different to the pre war and early war versions and in experienced hands could still be dangerous.
-
Some IJA units flew the Ki43 to the end of the war, the Ki43 shot down examples of every type of allied aircraft they encountered, including late war fighter types and 4 engined bombers. According to Hiroshi Ichimura… "From October to December 1944, 17 Ki-43s were shot down in air combat; their pilots claimed seven C-47s, five B-24 Liberators, two Spitfires, two Beaufighters, two Mosquitoes, two F4U Corsairs, two B-29 Superfortresses, one F6F Hellcat, one P-38, and one B-25." The Mosquitoes and P38 were PR and apparently were shot down by using a dive and zoom climb technique. I’m not sure how you’d shoot down a B29 in a Ki43 though?

The Japanese “experten” we’re getting kills in their highly manoeuvrable but underpowered and undergunned crates till the end of the war. A well flown DCS A6M or Ki-43 would be a serious handful I suspect.

Yes, unfortunately it seems there’s little record of FAA action in the ETO, other than they were there and launching aircraft. It seems reasonable though that RN F6Fs and F4Us engaged German aircraft. RN Avengers saw a lot of ETO action also, sometimes flying from land bases.

Aye, it’s never appeared as if there’s any plan really. BoB is mentioned, but we have no planes, PTO is mentioned but we have no maps. We have the lovely I-16 but it has no contemporaries or maps. But then whatever plan ED announce won’t suit everyone. I just try to enjoy what we have. Get ready for the ED Hellcat…

Demonstrates that there’s no problem reaching the controls on the right from the pilots seat. Cockpit is tiny.

That seems to match the “feral” description from the Richard Grace article I quoted earlier.

Mosquito visual damage model (from the announcement)

I wonder if the sound of rounds hitting the airframe will be different to the other aircraft. Rounds v metal, rounds v wood. -
A short stick extension helps a lot. 10cm on my WH has aided precision and reduced the centre force so you can hold the stick off centre without getting cramp.

It seems there’s some strangeness in the low speed rolling resistance of the aircraft. You watch real world videos and it’s easy to start moving, in DCS it’s as if the brakes are on, then all of a sudden they’re released and you’re moving. It’s as if the tyres are stuck in treacle. I assume this is also affects the low speed turning. However this isn’t unique to DCS or even flight sims though. Low speed handing in driving/racing sims is equally weird. I don’t know why it’s hard to model low speed movement, but it’s clearly difficult. It’s also a nice to have rather than essential feature, I’d rather have better airborne handling that better ground handling.

Would you purchase WW2 ETO Night Fighting Modules for DCS?
Mogster replied to DD_Fenrir's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
Full moon basically is close to daylight though. I’d imagine you’d be easy prey for night fighters. I’ve read that during Chastise 617 were the only Bomber Command assets over Germany and they needed the full moon. -

In reality Bomber Command avoided flying on moonlit nights didn’t they? Almost like flying in daylight. -
Seems a lot of issues with this... should I buy
Mogster replied to Gwalker99's topic in DCS: Fw 190 D-9 Dora
You can buy as many “gift” modules as you like on Steam already, just buy them and don’t give the code to anyone… Intresting. -

Aye, it’s one of those “do you want” polls that everyone automatically clicks yes to. As you say resources are limited it’s more a case of what would ED not be doing while they are producing night time content. Then is it one of those situations where people ask for a feature then try it once then never again? With race sims users repeatedly ask for night and rain driving, but dev’s suggest that once included most still drive in the day with good weather… Maybe some day, but not now? -
There’s an article online where Richard Grace writes about his experiences display flying the P47. He says you want to taxi with the tail wheel locked as much as possible and describes the ground handling with it unlocked as “feral” lol.

I do love it and the Lanc enables lots of fun toys, Blockbuster, Upkeep, Tallboy, Grand Slam. Insane amount of work so It isn’t happening, and it mostly flew at night… B17 is probably more likely, although in its self very unlikely…

DCS: de Havilland DH.98 Mosquito FB Mk VI Discussion
Mogster replied to msalama's topic in DCS: Mosquito FB VI
Surely the point is that most of the aircraft don’t have parking brakes. If you cold start you have to hold the brakes while you warm the engine otherwise you’ll wander all over the airfield. Anyway it seems they are being added. -
Adding GB Regional, Commonwealth and other European accents would be historically correct. For a start a generic “British” voice would be better than the US voices we have now. RAF call signs also please, no Chevy 1-2…

Loving the new Mossie Monday Series. Well done.
Mogster replied to Cowboy10uk's topic in DCS: Mosquito FB VI
Never sat in one unfortunately, but people who have always talk about the cockpit being surprisingly small. Looking at the arrangement of the seats it seems the Nav seat is stepped back from the pilots seat to give more elbow room… As they are commonly in modern rally cars. It looks like the pilot could, with some effort, operate all controls. -
Changes. In the UK at least you can find RTX 3080 stock now if you aren’t too bothered about a specific manufacturer. Scan have stock that stays for a few hours rather than seconds… Prices are unacceptable though. RTX 3080 Ti and 3090 also available but insane prices, not just unacceptable…

Yes. Same for the radio and ATC. It is jarring, an immersion breaker.
