ROF has a relatively small Channel map, it stops South of London so avoiding the problems surrounding modelling the whole city. People seem very happy with it. http://riseofflight.com/Blogs/post/2012/11/22/Progress-on-the-Channel-Map-Halberstadt-DII-and-HUGE-Sale!-November-22-28th.aspx There were quite a few WW2 airfields South of London.

Apart from the good of the genre though where's the incentive to contribute? There are already people posting that they're considering cancelling or reducing their contribution as they've worked out that the initial content will be free. They could have made $40 the point of access to the basic package of 3 RRG planes and made it clear that that's a good deal as they'll be much more expensive on release. I'm just concerned that after the initial flurry of contributions from hardcore fans the contributions will dry up without well structured rewards to entice the less comitted. We'll see.

I don't really understand the business model at this point. Giving 3 free DCS level planes seems a strange choice, unless the idea is to draw punters away from other products the initial release being really a loss leader. DCS isn't known for anything other than jets, the WW2 hardcore may take some drawing away from the IL2 series. Maybe this is Tishin's play for world flight sim domination.

DCS WWII: Europe 1944: Kickstarter Primer
Mogster replied to luthier1's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
For the good of the genre I'm going to support this, even though my head suggests its not the safest bet. I really want this to succeed, alongside BOS. At least this time RRG are producing content to plug into an established game engine. That's a huge advantage. -
So how many WW2 planes are documented well enough to model them in a similar fashion to the P51? This seems to be the elephant in the room.
-
The ideal would be being able to receive all DCS content through DCSW, but the ability to only receive WW2 content if you so desired. Receiving WW2 content only can be via a different launcher, if that's RRG's preference.

Maybe it would make sense to make the P51 F2P. Its already raked in plenty of cash, why create another plane that will always be free and never generate any direct revenue. The SU25T wasn't always free after all, it came along with a paid for FC update irc.
-
I don't get the need for the separate installs, you can already restrict involvement in MP sessions. I like the planeset though, DCS Mosquito sounds very appealing. I want it done to the level of the P51 though.
-
The P51 is unique in its level of detail and apparently accurate internal systems modelling. Because of that I get a lot of enjoyment flying it around on its own. A WW2 environment would be great, but seriously unless someone's been secretly working on a historical map of Europe for the last couple of years then we're in for a long wait.
-
I really doubt that producing WW2 aircraft to DCS P51 standards can be done quickly. I think we'll see Luthier's team releasing planes with AFM but with a reduced level of systems modelling and cockpit interactivity. I hope we'll continue to see "DCS" WW2 releases. I fantasise about DCS Spitfire IX, DCS Tempest, DCS Mosquito, DCS P38...

I know how you feel. I have exactly the same on/off hot/cold relationship with EDs stuff. The Friday updates brought me to the boards, I hadn't really noticed it but now you've suggested it, that's what was happening. I will come here less now, if I'm coming less then the same probably goes for others. Matt should get the mods to be more proactive, maintain one update discussion thread that remains locked untill the updates released each week. Delete all other threads directly discussing the update. So there's more in each update get the third party developers to submit regular news, badger them to do so.

Another vote for this. Without a change in ground textures it feels a bit strange but a rain effect on the glass and optics would be a good start. I find these sort of effects add atmosphere.

Would you want/ allow flyable civilian aircraft in DCS
Mogster replied to Kroll's topic in DCS Wishlist
As others have said a full switch flying school plane like the Cessna 172 would be a good start, and useful in the real world. Carenado are you listening? Then of course there are the Korea and Vietnam obsy versions of the 170 and 337 :) -
WW II stuff to DCS World by Beczl
Mogster replied to sokolus's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
This has so much potential, nice one Beczl :) -
I don't mind the vibration as a visual reference but I find the control shaking very difficult to deal with.
-
I'm just happy to see new developers confirming interest in products for DCSW, any new products. The more the merrier :) The community should be welcoming new developers rather than greeting them with negativity.

Hmmm, interesting read. I like the bit about always centring the stick after every input movement while hovering. I've just tried it, it really works. :joystick: Same for not moving the collective while hovering. Its true that they heli tends to hold altitude in a hover with a set collective position, I hadn't noticed that but it makes hovering much easier if you don't move the collective. Thanks for posting

The ROF UH1 really likes forward motion, fixed wing style landings are very easy, maybe a bit too forgiving. Pinpoint landings are much harder, if your speed drops below 30kts then you can VRS and its a struggle to get out of. ETL transition makes the heli pitch around quite a bit, its difficult to chase the pitching with control inputs. Keep forward motion above 30kts till you're close to the ground and in ground effect. Descend slowly, less than 500fpm. Keep a beady eye on the vertical speed gauge, if it drops suddenly push the stick forward and add collective.

So if you have Lock On FC installed then your install gets automatically updated with the new AFM versions of the planes?
-
DCS Spitfire would be awesome, a Spit IX preferably. I'm really enjoying EDs take on the Stang but I can't help wishing it was a Spitfire. DCS Tempest would be my next wish, then Mosquito.... I do have doubts that Luthiers crew can turn out DCS P51 level of detail aircraft at more than a couple a year.

New 6DOF cockpit for SU25-T Coming soon
Mogster replied to skouras's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
There will have to be continued support for the existing map. Nevada won't be any use outside training missions. It'll sell as people will want to sample Edge, me included, but once further Edge maps are released it would make the ideal DCSW F2P map. -
The important thing is for ED to continue to accept Steam licence keys in DCS World. That way people can continue to buy through Steam and migrate to DCS World when their interest is confirmed and they are ready to buy 3rd party modules. Think of Steam is a vehicle ED can use to pimp DCSW modules to casual gamers. If you have DCSW installed then I can't see the attraction of migrating to Steam, and I like Steam.

Leap Motion looks promising
Mogster replied to Thrakazog's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
The more I think about it I can imagine this working well with the rift. Move your hands to operate a clickable cockpit, it'd get round the problem of not being able to see the keyboard with the VR goggles on. You pretty much wouldn't need to use the keyboard for clickable cockpit sims. That's if it can be made to work like that in the future of course.
