Using race pedal for rudder & toe brakes
Quadg replied to Baldrick33's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I started off with combined race pedals. used them for about a year. they were okay for planes but became a bit of an issue with helicopters. why I eventually got a set of crosswinds. but they are definitely better than trying to use a twist grip joystick as rudder. -
in for a penny? then you are in for a pound.. I eject simply because I can..

its all about getting the kids interested in science. its something science teachers can use. and kids love it. why engineering firms sponsor it. they need the next generation of engineers.

dont panic. if you look at the figures for this website. ie most people logged in. then you will notice its still growing. and if ED wants to keep selling modules to new customers then they will have to be updated. yes this may not happen as fast as some of us would like. but it will happen. the a10c and the ka-50, the two oldest modules are being done. and 3rd party developers such as razbam and polychop are updating textures. so keep calm and carry on flying :)

in nvidia control panel set your card to low latency mode. ultra. and set virtual reality pre rendered frames to 1. this will stop your cpu and ram from being used to draw unused frames. let the steam/oculus VR service control all that. rather than the gpu.

this is impossible. for the same reason we cannot have door gunners without the gunsight. its the way the base game handles weapons. and would involve a complete rewrite of the base game weapons system. and all modules that use weapons. and ED have said they are not going to do it. this comes up a lot with the huey and people who want to fly a proper US slick.. just door gunners without flex sights and empty flex mounts.. if they cannot rewrite the base game then the next best option is to let us make things invisible. even if they have a hidden cost in drag and weight. they did exactly this to give people an F/A-18 without pylons.. they just made the pylons invisible.

if you want a random thing to try that fixed my crashes to desktop, then check your windows pagefile. make sure it is not left to windows to set automatically. try setting it manually to the same size as your RAM. I was running with no pagefile. started getting out of memory errors. changed to windows managed and got random crashes to desktop but it was happening at a similar time to when I was getting the out of memory errors. so I upped the pagefile size to the size of my RAM. crashes went away. I have a 1080 and 16gb of ram.

gym subscriptions are the biggest waste of money on the planet.. good for the gym's but bad for the people who pay for them but never actually go.. and that is the greater share of gym memebrship payers.

you get vibration when transitioning into or out of translational lift. when you move from dirty air to clean as you gain forward speed. or clean air to dirty as you slow down.

landing on huge modern runways does give the illusion that you don't need brakes :) many temporary airfields in ww2 were on whatever flat ground you could find. so you needed the brakes to minimise your stopping distance while not losing the plane in a ground loop. like the British in the battle of Britain. using farm fields instead of airbases because the airbases were under attack. and the 109 during the blitzkrieg years and retreats across France and Russia, needing to move with the front line. so if you have lots of space you use rudder more than brakes. but if space is tight you use both for minimum stopping distance. we don't have that issue in DCS because even the Normandy map airfields are nice and long.

in the c 101 you can click on the stick base to make the entire flight stick vanish so you can easily use the buttons behind in 2d.. i dont need that feature in VR.. and im not asking for it to be removed.. developers are making concessions for 2d mode already. this thread is pointing out where a concession is needed for VR. the whole needing the gunsight just to have door gunners is an unrealistic limitation of the armament implimentation.. making the sight invisible with a button, would fix this without needing to rewrite the entire armaments implimentation for every module.
-
in VR the sight fills your view and you need to lean to avoid it. which gives you a sore back. im sure in real life the pilot just adjusted his seat height to avoid the problem. but doing that in dcs puts your head in the pilots chest.
-
they got all the east German ones. this could be from east German training manuals.
-
the way I get rid of the sight, so I don't need to constantly lean to the side in VR. is swap to the other pilot seat. yes not all instruments are available. but with a button you can switch back and forth quickly, so it does not matter. also learning to fly from the other seat is good for you.

if you fly helicopters then the spring force is not just wrong its actually physically painful to hold the stick in cruise for 40 minutes.. why my spring got removed..

The us navy and army actually wanted 20mm autocannon to replace the .50 back in 1941 before Peral harbour. and the US went to some lengths to produce a copy of the British Hispano mkI. which itself was a copy of the French Hispano-Suiza HS. 404. but they could not get it working reliably this was the A/N M1 20mm in 1942 the British sent them the Hispano mkII and the US created the A/N m2 20mm but it still had reliability issues. the British refused to buy it. even though they needed more Hispano. the US had stockpiled 40million 20mm rounds by this point. the A/N m2 20mm was finally used in the p-38 but because of those reliability issues, that was it. late in the war they produce the A/N m3 20mm which saw some service on the f4uc but the marines preferred the .50 for the obsolete Japanese planes. and it was still unreliable. finally after the war a reliable version the m23 went into service. here is the manual for the m1 and m2 https://archive.org/details/20mmautomaticgun00unit apparently it had a larger chamber than the French or British guns and was prone to light strikes and stoppages and needed some form of cocking system to clear the duds. the british didn't use it because they didn't want the weight of a cocking system the hispano on british planes were cocked before takeoff by ground crew. a cocking system, like a tail wheel lock was unnecessary weight.

[NO BUG]F-5E pilot does not require oxygen
Quadg replied to cosmicdoubloon's topic in Bugs and Problems
I thought in DCS you are always wearing your mask. you cannot remove it. so even in a pressurised aircraft you need to turn on the oxygen. or you will pass out because of the mask. im sure I saw a thread about this somewhere else.. -
the two ships sunk were the destroyer HMS Sheffield. on picket duty. and the container ship the Atlantic conveyor. so one warship and one auxiliary. they also took exocet launchers off their ships and mounted them on trucks. these could not be launched from aircraft but they managed to hit HMS Glamorgan as she was shelling argentine land forces. from the gun line. where ships went to do shore bombardment around port Stanley. that one hit the helicopter deck so did not sink the ship. the ship did a rapid turn when it detected the incoming missile. half the fleet shot out their barrels at the gun line, so they became a bit predictable. Iraq actually made far greater use of the super entendard and exocet in the tanker war against iran.

@kerberos nice little vid. it shows why you never fire rockets from a hover. your engines ingest all that black smoke and you crash :) come on ED I want me some crocodile!!! :)

Anyone come across this beast?
Quadg replied to Alligin's topic in DCS: Nevada Test and Training Range
if you put those coordinates into google earth you get something that may look like a spider, or at least a Rorschach inkblot test that some would say could be a spider. -
How to know and track where a ground target is using CCIP?
Quadg replied to parxuk's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
as I read this sentence. the word I'm currently focusing on is not larger than the words I am not focusing on, in my peripheral vision. if I want the words larger I need to wear reading glasses. which is why that pilot has binoculars. and you only have one field of view. its the brain that filters out distractions and splits it into focal point, and peripheral vision. with out that filter you would not have blurry peripheral vision, you would see everything in your field of view in focus. its an adaption for hunters, so they don't get distracted from the prey. your peripheral vision is setup to only give you helpful information. like detecting movement. and nothing draws the eye like movement.. its the hunter in us all. even vegetarians :) -
Eagle Dynamic most need add this to the game
Quadg replied to Alf.Snake's topic in DCS Core Wish List
google are doing the same thing with google earth VR. software that turns 2d satellite images into a 3d world you can move around. on the fly.. I often move around in that making airplane and helicopter noises :)
