Hybrid drives do almost the same thing you could do since windows Vista using readyboost and a cheapo memory stick. It's just using it as a cache to accelerate frequently used apps. If you play DCSW a lot then most of the important parts of the game should end up on there. It's when theres something that isn't loaded into cache is where the stutter happens. You probably want to manually disable Superfetch and indexing with that drive also.

Clarifying what is needed to run FC 3
Slayer replied to Bluedrake42's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
I'm assuming we can uninstall LOMAC once we have the FC3 module installed? -
Thought you were "over and out" with nothing more constructive to say 10 pages ago?

Great thanks! I was afraid of that. Hard to tell how much more is needed when you are maxed out. I had heard 2.5GB but everyones settings and system is a little different. Also are you using bezel correction it adds more pixels? I'm currently at 5880 x 1080

Did this actually happen or is it just propaganda nonsense?

This Dr. Kopp is obviously full of it an you guys got reeled in hook line and sinker, the man is obviously biased as he has a pic of a Russian jet behind him as he speaks. Video from 2008 saying the F-35 was double inferior and it's not even in full service 4 years later in 2012. So how pray tell did it get owned in this PACAF exercise when there were none to participate? They only had a few prototypes in 2008 an I daresay they didn't gamble them on some fictional PACAF exercise... Other inconsistencies showing the BERKUT SU-47 in the video? huh? Another aircraft proptotype not even in service yet. That whole video is pretty much abject garbage. No I'm not an F-35 apologist I think it's really not that great of an aircraft, way over budget, way overpriced. Whenever I look at its single engine and 1 single cockpit display I think the designers aught to be shot. There is no redundancy at all. (Wondering what happens when they get the software bug that the F-22 had that shut down the computers...lol) -

Nice touch using the additional wasted space for more gauges. My GF has an old 19" 4:3 LCD gathering dust in a corner. I will make it mine ;P -
So, to the OP it's not really a stupid noob question. A taildragger is a whole different ballgame than a jet with NWS...it's a pretty valid question that some of us can learn from. The pilots book from a real P-51 states "In ordinary Taxi, keep the stick in neutral or slightly aft position, this locks the tailwheel and makes it steerable 6 degrees right or left with the rudder. To make sharp turns or go around corners, unlock the tailwheel by pushing the stick full forward" Nothing is said at all regarding braking.

I'm running 3 of the same screens at 1920x1080 with Nvidia Surround and my 2 old 480 GTX are maxed out on the Vram (1534 megs reported in use from each card in MSI afterburner) DCS reports slightly less BUT i'm pretty sure the report from in game only include what is being used by the game and not accounting for the 254 megs being used by windows itself. Battlefield 3 reports similar. I'm able to run Ultra settings on most items except the post processing AA modes which put it way over that and my framerats go down into single digits. I just ordered a 680 GTX 2GB and am really hoping it's adequate. I didn't want to drop 1K on a 690 only to find that it's 2GB per card isn't enough. With SLI the VRAM does not combine to make 4GB of usable ram as they would lead you to believe, your effective ram is still only 2 GB. I did some research... 1 680 GTX benchmarks about 5% slower than 2 480's in SLI so I don't really gain a whole lot in terms of performance but what I'm hoping is that I don't get the FPS drop off associated with running out of VRAM taking my FPS from about 45 down to 10. Id also like to add in a 4th display to mount my TM MFD's on so Im hoping that extra 500 or so meg will let me do so. I realize there are 4 gig cards and in another 6 months there will probably be a 780 GTX with more memory but I've waited long enough and I got a really good deal on the 680. ( kicking myself after I let 2 $ 600.00+ 4 GB 680's go on ebay for $450.00 each buy it now...) Any feedback from other people using 3+ screens regarding their VRAM usage would be much appreciated. I'll update this post after I get the new card and do some performance tests.

It's because RL pilots saying it is improper to use and "wear out" the brakes. Supposedly we should be able to taxi this without so much as touching the brakes at all.

Ok thanks for clarifying that. Hopefully there are no BSOD in my future. I've probably one ever seen 2 the whole time I've had Windows 7.

Going off memory and I may be incorrect because it has been a while but I went through this with FC2..... I have Lockon gold which had 2 disks the original LOMAC and flaming cliffs cd. it does have starforce on it and that version of starforce is completely incompatible with 64 bit anything. It will crash your computer and you have to do system restore because it won't boot anymore. Not a lot of people have this "version" but I'm one of the unfortunate ones. If I remember correctly this was the same batch that got recalled because the starforce ruined the CDs or some such. Seems like someone told me this when I had FC2 install problems before and told me there was no such version of CD's like this. edit: I prob shouldn't have started this here, Ill open a seperate thread should this be an issue when FC3 comes
-
Hopefully they will just do a cdkey check or insert the disk check for lockon...what a pain to reinstall that old thing with it's very old starforce version that I don't want corrupting my Windows 7.

You are 100% right....per Wags post: FC3 aircraft provide an easy learning curve for new players and focuses on a broad range of aircraft rather than a detailed single aircraft. No sense to let FC/FC2 die alone. Why should they not just update a few aircraft and re-release to DCSW standard so we can once again have every ED product multiplayer compatible. If MP isn't your thing and you already own FC2 well the updated F15 is still a semi decent reason to upgrade...

They stopped work on Nevada for like 5 months because the team that was working on it broke up. ED started from scratch it sounds like.

I saw the announcement also that Tacview will be supported by VRS superbug. Is this the same program and will I have to buy it again to use with the superbug?

It's pretty amazing but I would wait for the HD version with better screen resolution. Also It doesn't really seem to offer a wide FOV that I get with 3 screens. Situational awareness is king and I just can't see this replacing a triple head setup. Sldo the keyboard issue for sims is a small hurdle but honestly I'd just stick to teamspeak so I don't have to type and use the VC which I mostly do anyways ( excepting the HOTAS stuff ) so keybard isn't a very big issue. ED would definately have to consider if implementing this would be worth it . At this point I'd have to say no. There isn't going to be enough people to justify coding it.

DCS doesn't really support 3D sound AFAIK only left and right. using virtual surround that is included with some headphones and soundcards is a step in the right direction. I haven't had an Audigy in years but there is a option for setting the distance of he speakers if you dig around in settings. Also of note , MS in there infinite wisdom gutted directsound 3D from the OS so no sound is truly hardware accelerated anymore unless you are running on WIndows XP. I guess it was too unstable ...

The P-51 has a pilots kneeboard that can be used as a map and I've seen people using it as an export so thats not 100% true. -
Windows 8, I think I'll W8 ;P

Again I am not making this up don't knock it unless you try it. Tonight I sat down to try some multiplayer and again CTD on connect to masterserver. Tried 3 times CTD all 3 trys. Started single player picked an instant mission, started it and exit. Join multiplayer and now no CTD. It is not a coincidence nor luck and it is proven again and again. I suspect an issue with the copy protection and or masterserver. Single player DOES use online to verify the key so this may be the smoking gun. Edit: Next time I'll take a video of it on my phone and post it on youtube...

Just a word of warning : (if anyone is still playing it)IL-2 COD will not run under Windows 8. AFAIk there is no workaround and the devs over there are aware of it but it's a very low priority. All other sims I own seemed to work ok but I couldn't stand Windows 8 so I reformatted again. Best to do a dual boot if you are going to upgrade.

Any of the developers willing to help?
Slayer replied to algerad3's topic in How To Mod for DCS World
Have you tried running it under the 32 bit versions of BS2 and A-10? They should be there. in early version the installer let you pick which ones to install , later I think it just installed the appropriate shortcuts based on your OS DCS world is a little different file locations have moved: The 32 bit and 64 bit are both included but are now located under the subfolder for each aircraft: C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\Mods\aircrafts\A-10C\bin here you will find the x86 and x64 versions in subfolders -
I saw a tip about just go into single player first, start a quick mission, then exit. Oddly enough doing this after I cannot get into multiplayer/CTD fixes it. At first I though it was because some time had elapsed but this doesn't seem to be the case. I get CTD 10 times or try for an hour to get on and no go. Start singleplayer start a quick mission exit then go into multiplayer immediately and boom I'm in. I've tested it several times this past weekend when I couldn't get in and it worked every time. Also this CTD issue always seems to happen on the weekend for me...just weird.

Why are some key bindings unavailable
Slayer replied to Geckomeister's topic in Installation Problems
Try to select a box the column for your joystick, then hit "clear category" you will have to redo your buttons for that column but it should take care of the problem. -
What I'm curious about is what you will be using for a power supply for all this? 24Volts? and how do you get all the odd cannon plugs to connect to the gauges?
