I have been using the TrackIR 5 with the hat clip in DCS for a few months now. Head tracking for DCS is a must for me, you never realize how much until you start using it. The TrackIR is a good product. Easy to setup and works well, even with just the hat-clip. I am just the tiniest bit disappointed however. When I imagined TrackIR, I imagined the view panning smoothly around (almost as if I were using keyboard buttons or the view hat on a joystick). In reality, that just doesn't happen. I don't know if it's a problem with TrackIR, or DCS, but there is noticeable judder/stutter/aliasing when you pan the view with TrackIR. It's slight, but noticeable, and only becomes more noticeable as time goes on. If it weren't for that, it would be perfect. Still pretty good, wouldn't fly without it now.

Here are my mods, although I've tried them with and without and it makes no difference. Ricardo Black Cockpit HD: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/602834/ Barthek's GTM 6.5

Running the ABRIS in moving map mode is causing major lag/stutter. If ABRIS is in any of the black screen modes, it's fine, but moving map is killing performance. FPS decrease of up to 50% and noticeable screen issues. Video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CPm2qC7b-Ko&feature=youtu.be Rig in specs. Tried all resolutions for cockpit displays, nothing has helped. EDIT: can be fixed by changing water quality setting to high. Seems like a bug.

Video here: https://youtu.be/CPm2qC7b-Ko A little hard to see the video numbers (40ish with map on, maxed at 60 without it) but the chunking is noticable. Not present in 2.0 thankfully, but all the Ka50 content is for 1.5
-
Yes I tried each different resolution.

I'm getting a huge performance hit running the ABRIS in the moving map mode. If I change it to any of the "black" modes, everything is smooth. Doesn't matter what resolution I have the displays set at in options. Anyone else having issues with this? Know of a possible fix? Version 1.56 beta, using "takeoff from beslan" instant action as benchmark. Specs in signature.

Looks good. I wonder if we will get Tucano or Harrier first???

A player controlled B17 formation is hugely impractical for a couple of reasons. First you've got development time and cost for that module which would have to be quite a bit more than a single seater. If you charge the same price as other modules, it's a losing proposition. If you charge more, you might price some potential buyers out of it, especially those who aren't really interested in it. Then you've got the technical aspect. Are you going to have multicrew for each position or lets say just pilot/bombardier/gunners? Just getting multicrew for that many would seem to be a hurdle, but assuming you did, you've just introduced a major stressor in terms of player count/netcode and what have you. How many B17s to a formation? Are you really going to have 60+ players in a bunch of B17's? I don't know what server is going to do that. So lets forget multi-crew, and say it's just one person per bomber. You can fly the plane, or drop the bombs, or shoot from a turret. While you're doing that, an AI is doing the rest. Is that really so different than just a pure AI bomber? It doesn't seem like that to me. Please ED, add glorious WWII ground attack / strike aircraft to help flesh out the WWII experience but keep them small 1/2 seaters, not large B17/B25/Lancaster etc.
-
Agree totally but those bombers can be AI set to fly formation at 25,000, bomb target, and RTB. They don't need to be player modules.
-
Should go play those other WW2 sims then. Considering the length of time it takes to get a single seat fighter into the game, why go to all the trouble for a bomber with a big crew when 80% of the function will be handled by the AI anyway? It would be a huge project that doesn't make practical or financial sense.
-
This is silly. You need player bombers because the OP is too snobby to shoot down AI? Why do you need a player to fly straight and level when you shoot them down when an AI can do that just as well? Come on get real. Player bombers won't work without multicrew and if they can't manage that for the Huey, what makes you think they'll pull off anything with more crew slots? Please, it takes years to get a plane into DCS this would really be a huge waste.
-
The only update the Huey needs is a new campaign. Something like the border campaign for the Mi8.

Tree shadows flashing and missing in 1.5.6

Same for me. -
Are non WWII players really going to spring for another "alpha" map? I think I might wait for the other Alpha map to you know, get out of alpha.
-
This sucker has got to be getting close right? I recall seeing test flight videos of it in DCS from 2014...
-
I don't think it's a stretch to say yes. All the other Red Flag campaigns are (and well worth it too).

2.5 prediction: Q4 2017 or Q1 2018.
-
Please no AI in trees. Totally invisible with busted FLIR.
-
Even if a full fidelity DCS F-16 module released today, aside from graphics, it would be a shell of what is available in BMS 4.33 and it's amazing dynamic campaign. I will continue to hope that the core engine/systems of DCS are fleshed out as opposed to just new modules.
-
Does this mean added dev time for Normandy I wonder, or still a "targeted" Q1/17 release?

When I recently started playing this game, I thought the visibility problems were just because I was new to the game and was having trouble flying and panning the view with kb or hat switch. So I went and got a TrackIR and set-up some zoomed in snap view for strafing runs and what have you. It is still really really really hard to eyeball anything consistently at 1440p. Even when knowing exactly where they are supposed to be, unless anything in the air is throwing a contrail or engine smoke, they might as well be invisible. Yesterday I missed a guns pass in the A10C, on a jeep in an open green field with the view zoomed all the way in, with SPI set on target, because I just couldn't see the thing at less than 2nm. This is compounded by the promised-but-yet-to-be-delivered improvements to the FLIR system. Please fix the visibility problems in DCS.

Definitely not. Keep the FC3 planes for price point and paid upgrades to full modules no problem here.
-
There's no way it's going to cost $700 US, you can mark that down right now. Expect much closer to $1000 US.
-
Whether we get the F15E or not, it is a huge waste of all the FC3 aircraft for them to not have full fidelity clickable pits. They've gone to all the trouble (for most of them) with game assets and the flight models only to stop just short of making them fully? Huh? F15C included.
