  1. Ah yes, what better way to tease a new product than showing it getting shot down
  2. As many as it takes to get both in the game I guess
  3. Much much better after this update... Certainly more work to be done, there still seems to be far too much translucency < especially with the sun... Some additional internal shadows wouldn't go a miss either. There is also still the issue of the clouds being aliased at distant, this has little to do with msaa etc. You can see the voxels on distance clouds trying to interpolate the edges, but again this patch has made things better for sure.
  4. But then people moan that released it in an unfinished state....... Though I will say the lack of it being done yet is a shame, especially since teased it to us but oh well.
  5. Sorry for the late update on the post BN. A track file from my friend confirming the issue is not caused by just myself I've also provided the mission file. One thing to mention is to continue to hold the weapon release button after the weapon drop, I've witnessed a delay occasionally for the missile to go off. DogFightMode.zip Edit: I've additionally found out it's not linked to 'sync hotas at start'... You can cycle the DF switch (still leaving it the forward position) prior to start up and it still happens
  6. Well yes like I said, that is an issue with the entire lighting system as a whole... Not just the sky model
  7. I'm going to have a guess that you don't actually mean HDRI, rather the skydome/Sun/atmospheric setup. You cannot use a HDRI skydome for games that have a complete day/night yearly cycle. To do that with HDRI's you'd need thousands of images.. I'm not 100% sure why the high level clouds didn't get removed/upgraded with the new cloud system but it could be because ED want to do a separate system for that. These skybox's below are procedural based off of two popular sky model If anyone want's to get really nerdy on this topic then you can read these two papers https://courses.cs.duke.edu/cps124/spring08/assign/07_papers/p91-preetham.pdf https://cgg.mff.cuni.cz/projects/SkylightModelling/HosekWilkie_SkylightModel_SIGGRAPH2012_Preprint_lowres.pdf
  8. The fog system is not compatible with the new clouds. We are waiting on a new fog render method. https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/news/changelog/openbeta/2.7.0.4625/ At the bottom, under Known issues: " The legacy fog effects are not suitable for use with the new clouds - a new fog layer using the new technology will follow. "
  9. No, you are not the only one who wants this.. It's been requested many many times over the years... Bigger fish to fry and all that
  10. I saw this on the 'Unofficial Road Map' Thread: So I'd imagine that this could be a thing, but I wouldn't hold my breath on seeing it implemented into the current system. Though hey I might be talking complete **** Oh and additionally here in the same thread:
  11. I'm going to take a guess here and say this also means basic ATC, which will be a massive shame, but if this is the case I understand that it's something limited by ED. Hopefully there will be a way in the future for the ATC to be added to 3d party carrier if you own the SC module. < unless you clever HB have already done this Getting some words to clarify these 'base features' would be greatly appreciated.
  12. Hi BN, Yeah checked and double checked. I can confirm as long as my dogfight mode switch is in the central position this does not happen, and the systems behave as intended. Cheers
  13. Found this out randomly last night, and unfortunately my flight lead ate an Rouge 120 I discovered this because I have 'Sync hotas switches' enabled, but if you do a cold start with your dog fight switch in the fwd/aft position, the aircraft does not go into dog fight mode.... However it will fire which ever missile it has selected even if you are in nav/a-g/selective jettison mode. Once you've dropped one weapon in a-g mode then on the next press a missile is not fired. Always do your pre-flight checks peeps enabledDogFight.trk
  14. Can you see this link? https://forums.eagle.ru/forum/482-game-crash/
  15. Well yes, if ultra in VR was the same as 2d you'll see a performance hit for sure
  16. It's a problem with using photographs as reference. The human eye see such a large colour gamut and our brain is so amazing that it constantly builds upon the image we see with different exposures. The term 'photorealistic' is a bit of a trap, because really in DCS you want to replicate how the human eye works, not cameras. But then comes the other issue of how peoples monitors display the image produced. Most modern monitors will display +99% of sRGB and usually now +90% of D3, which means that graphics engineers have to find clever ways of displaying all the colour data without too much clamping of colours. In addition to this, you can start adding auto exposure systems on the in-game camera/s but then you're constantly fighting bit's that'll blow out and then bits that are mega bright. You've got to remember in games like dcs, we have an entire day/night cycle with dynamic lighting and weather conditions. Unfortunately until monitors can display 32bit and encompass a colourspace like aces (or even better if we get there). Then we are always going to be compromising on this matter
  17. Yes you would be able. The water droplets would refract the IR rays enough to spook a missile. It would be interesting to know how water effects radar, but when you think about how an air-ground radar cannot see bellow the surface of the water due to the rays being reflected/refracted and thus not returning those rays properly if at all. What is cool with volumetric clouds is that you can calculate their density or thickness throughout the volume. So say you might have a thin part of the cloud which the radar can successfully see through, whereas a denser part it wont.
  18. Sounds like you're running the Stable version if it's not detecting the update. What you can do is: Go to your install dir > bin folder: mine is (H:\Games\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\bin) File>Open windows powershell type 'cmd' and hit enter type 'DCS_updater.exe update @openbeta' and hit enter That should run the updater and convert it from stable to openbeta
  19. From the weekend news: "We are also working on a Cloud generator capable of creating on-demand visual representations of much larger clouds such as towering cumulus and cumulonimbus. After the initial launch, we will continue the development of natural cloud cycles, severe weather behaviour, thunderstorms and fog. " I think the use of the word 'disappointing' is being used too much in my opinion. Yes the acid trip wobble effect of the clouds is bad < they're working on it. The quality of the clouds lower yes, but as we've already found out, the graphics option for them doesn't change things, so this is either a bug or something they've over looked. They isn't many games out there that support volumetric clouds, dynamic lighting and vr... So we've gotta chill and let it all mature for a while.
  20. Try running the in-game PD at +1.0, the whole running at 0.5 and then using steamVR supersampling has already been debunked https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1gcgAXhgtA I wonder if the cloud resolution is linked to the display resolution, granted even at +1.0 they still don't look detailed and like other posts have mentioned it appears in VR that the graphics>cloud option doesn't actually effect them.. They appear to be locked at one setting.
  21. Yeah the previous clouds/weather conditions/time of day never affected the AI's LOS, so these clouds haven't broken anything. Granted they've now made it harder for us humans, but at least ED have a framework/technology whereby they can affect AI's LOS very effectively.
  22. Then uninstall some modules/terrains... Or buy a new ssd... Not really the devs fault mate
  23. I download much faster than 1-2mbps from their servers... So not sure what you're experiencing... Only time I've seen it like that is when they're a high amount of traffic which is usually caused by a hyped update
  24. How often are the stutters? Are you running anything like Malwarebytes?
  25. The fog needs an overhaul really as it's just a generic environment fog. It would be great to see things like localised fog but again this can only work with a true weather system. One can hope and dream eh ;)
