Very good advice indeed, MeerCat. At the moment I'm moving my view with my joysticks hat view, which is awfull. I've ordered TrackIR5 from Amazon, but it takes apparently ages to send something from California to Norway :( When the TrackIR is installed I believe it might be easier for me to get a mental view of the space I'm operating within

Is it "safe" to install this mod without risking to break my own shortcut keys?
-
Ah sorry! I admit I was wrong about the neutral rudder, and thanks for clarifying that part.
-
This guy illustrates exactly what I mentioned about the rudder torque and enginge rpm vs rotor rpm. This guy, at least, seems to know what he's talking about: rudder in cruise flight : 6:40 engine rpm vs rotor rpm : 24:40
-
Yep, just like how the autopilot does. At cruise speed with no wind with the "autopilot" you'll see the ball in the middle with left rudder pushed.
-
Like I said, I flew in no wind what so ever. In a clean chopper with aprox 30% fuel. I just tested this in a new mission. When I hit 90kts, I turned on the (non real) autopilot, just to make sure the airframe was flying nice and steady. Then you'll see that the autopilot adds left rudder. Just try for yourself. I believe in real life, like you just said, there should be no need to apply left rudder to counter the torque when you fly in cruise speed.

I've been playing this game a couple of weeks now, and played through the UN campaign as well as the Argo campaign. I'm no heli pilot, but I've had my amount of RC helis and other simulators in the past. I really love this game, and it's a blast to fly around with the Huey. :) Here's a list of things I wish could be improved: -When I fly straight at 90kts with no wind, I must press the left rudder a fairly amount. I'm no expert, but shouldn't this hi fidelity sim solve this kind of aerodynamics? -No needle split (engine vs rotor rpm) when I'm on the ground and reduce throttle to minimum, or do auto rotation practice from air. It's like there was no freewheel between the engine and the rotor blades. I was able to get a needle split when I stopped the engine mid air by cutting off the fuel and did an auto rotation towards the ground though. But I think it should act more or less the same for the latter situations. -Is the search light and landing light so poor in the real chopper? Night missions are horrible :D Thats all the rant for now. Have a good one and keep up the good work!

Why is my pilot gaining rank for missions not completed?

I believe you mean the "Dusk" mission ;-) -

yeah, that was a depressing read. Read the comments as well. Many complains about the lack of a dynamic campaign. -
When your chopper is running, make sure you have switched your radio to Ground Crew before you ask for NGV installation, otherwise they won't read you. Like this:

Is there a 1.1 patch?

Has anyone found any conclusion if it helps to turn off the laser range finder to let it cool down? Or will it help to only have it on when you actually need it? This has happened to me three times in the last two days. And if we actually could get an official answer from ED it would be great...

A Poor Man's Dynamic Campaign Engine
d0ppler replied to ericinexile's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I really don't understand why it must be multiplayer to have a dynamic campaign. I would like a single player dynamic campaign. -
It's not that hard to accomplish, even without unlimited ammo and labels off. What I did was sending my wingman to a certain death, but he was able to clean out some ground targets prior to that. Then I used vikhrs on SAM's and tanks. The rest was taken down with HE gun. Don't stay too long at the same spot, and use the terrain around as cover :)

Quarrion, can you please tell me from where you "quoted" this from Glowing Amraam?

Best way to avoid incoming missiles?

I have a feeling that no ground unit has any limitation to weapons in terms of bullets/rockets/missiles in the current state of DCS -

You have some good points Teapot. I may be speaking for myself, but I believe most DCS gamers wants to be entertained rather than using DCS as a tool to practice lifelike 'real' scenarios/situations to become a REAL Ka-50 pilot. It's nothing wrong with the scenarios/missions being realistic, and I believe a well written dynamic campaign engine is able to create such missions/events. -
A Poor Man's Dynamic Campaign Engine

In the mission editor, I even don't find any "random weather" or "random time" function. It might be there somewhere since I haven't read the GUI manual though.. :) But a dynamic campaign like we saw in Falcon AF was truly awesome, and adding this feature will make this game my favorite game for years to come. -
+1. Vietnam MedEvac was awesome in terms of flight modeling comparing to most other helo sims I've played, apart from DCS:BS off course :)
-
The problem will be solved if a) ED adds 8 instead of 4 ways the SHKVAL can be moved or b) override the standard 8-way hatswitch to only be a 4-way hatswitch.

It sounds like you havent set engine power to AUTO (by hitting PageUp twice) during start-up after your both engines have reached 70%. Never tried flying with external tanks, so can't help you on that sorry.
-
I will NEVER go back to MSFS choppers unless they do some serious adjustments to their flight models :)

do wiper blades on the shkval camera work? wheres switch?

There are some very good tutorials for the data link in the training section in-game. -
+1, it would make my life out in the combat fields easier as well ;)
