  1. I'd love to, but I will most likely be out of town doing the fathers day round (my wife/my parents)...on the plus side I get to spend the what looks like a fantastic hot day on a boat, but on the down side ... no flying :( :( :( . Thanks for the invite, in the meantime I use whatever limited time I have to fly to practice ... i haven't been online or even flown since the last time I flew with you guys. *smacks head*. Thanks for the invite though, I will keep a note of Saturday's at 6pm for future ref! <S>
  2. One day....she will be mine...OH yes, she WILL be mine!
  3. All ad ons may not sport the DCS prefix, some of those aircraft may fit into the FC3 arena. I don't think a third party who doesn't model a 3D clickable cockpit will ensure many sales for themselves. A2A, PMDG, VRS all have great flight models and accomplished them on their own...so I'm thinking the same can be done with ED third party. If ED said "we're not making aircraft anymore and leaving it all to third party, but unfortunately we can't supply them with our AFM SDK. Sorry all you high fidelity junkies, you're SOL" I am genuinely sorry you feel saddened by the news, I hope in time you will be pleasantly surprised with what develops. :)
  4. PMDG does a civilian transport who's cargo is one VIP who must make it from point A to B. Fighter escort required...that's a combat scenario where a civilian pilot gets to feel the jeopardy of a combat scenario and the combat pilot has a real package to protect. That's one of a zillion scenarios "combat" would be a relevant term, it's far more than pew pew although PEW PEW is good! Besides, it's going to take a LONG time before we see any number of third party aircraft, and I can see a good majority of developers wanting to do combat simply because unlike FSX they're not shooting blanks ;). I think the "trains" aspect of the sim was a bit of a joke, not really something to be taken seriously but isn't impossible. Remember developers are going to spend the time to make an airframe they hope that people will buy, to do that they must have a general idea what the community in this simulator is looking for and will most likely yield to that. I'm a glass half full guy (most of the time) I'm optimistic about the future of the series.
  5. Yeah, I appreciate that about A2A's work that's for sure. I'm fine with the wait, I've got my hands full with the current ED offerings and CA and B's Mig 21 in the next month/few months has got me more than occupied :)
  6. A2A to develop it's WARBIRDS for DCS....THAT would be a nice addition to the third party crew.
  7. ARMA is my FPS of choice. The armor and air element are just accents to the infantry experience. To cycle and program high fidelity on all aircraft and ground units...would be a PC killer and would never get finished (sheer amount of work). DCS is my flight sim of choice (and soon to be armor/strategic game of choice). The ARMA and DCS world will never collide, they're not even in the same universe. The two can make a simming experience quite enjoyable. I don't understand the logic behind comparing the two frankly. Compare COD to BF3, or to CRYSIS even, but ARMA and DCS series can't exist in a ring together...even a caged. So without any disrespect to the author of this thread....ARMA will always be ARMA (especially with 3 on the horizon) because it is a FPS at it's core. CA is a brand new element to DCS world and will make online missions INFINITELY more interesting with humans controlling ground forces/ strategic JTAC's on station). I love this element as I travel a lot and without tracker IR and HOTAS flying is quite useless. This way I can keep the DCS action alive even if I'm not airworthy ;).
  8. They are just protecting their territory. Unfortunately for many in both communities there is no room for both. I think it's utterly ridiculous, but that's passion at it's finest I guess.
  9. The guys running the show over here seem to have a grand master plan that seems to be working. Just because Wags mentions that there is a possibility not ALL planes will have A-10C level accuracy, many will (and many may not). I'm pulling this out of my butt here, but lets say 1 in ever 4 airframes that gets released is an A10C equal in terms of accuracy. But if we want a Longbow, or an F-15E or even Superbug, then attaining that level of classified information may be impossible. I like the choice, of course highest fidelity is ideal, but I can see and be entertained by varying levels of fidelity. Ultimately it will be within multiplayer parameters to govern what airframes are mixed with what. Of course I will be a bit more cautious buying from third party developers vs ED directly (wait for reviews, youtube gameplay references etc). This is most definitely not a bad thing, more choices is never bad thing in a sandbox.
  10. I'm with you on that, once I saw them in that I was IN LOVE with them. Still my favorite part of the movie: (when the marine pilots blow up the bridge)...not really the Arnold pilot stuff. :) Welcome Prowler111 and the RAZBAM team, a Harrier in DCS world would be pretty, pretty, pretty, prettyyyyyyyyyy prettyyyyyyy good!
  11. That's a lovely feature in BMS no doubt, but there is more to AFM than prop wash/turbulance, X-Plane 9 had that in long before BMS so doesn't really prove which is better. I'm not faulting BMS and it's flight model, it's an amazing sim and the BMS team have done an unbelievable job with it. BUT, when I fly the DCS aircrafts I feel like i'm FLYING.
  12. Although I appreciate your choice, I have to say the mustang is an unbelievable piece of simming software and even if it was placed in the battlefield of 2200 it would still be an amazing vehicle to fly. Flying is exactly what you get to do with it, you feel completely connected. (Not trying to convince you, just trump the idea that it's "too out of place in the DCS world to enjoy flying".) :joystick: I do appreciate your love of the Toad however ;)...she's my one FC true love. :matrix:
  13. One quick story regarding the real 332nd. Cutting ep 6 of 6 show on "air aces". I watched a bit of the interview from one of the other ep's from one of the pilots > forget his name, very articulate man though, just listening to him speak kept me on the edge of my seat. Anyway he was describing his first flight in the new P51's as "terrifying". They basically gave them the planes, did a quick cockpit familiarization and were allowed to take off. One of his squad mates took her up first (full tanks) and immediately went into acrobatic maneuvers. Soon after he lost control of the plane and it augered into the ground, killing the pilot. The subject described his fear after watching that happen and did his test flight straight and level knees shaking the entire time. Later the accident was blamed on the rear fuel tank being full for throwing off the balance of the plane during acrobatics. He did mention takeoff's being a pain in the ass due to torque, compared to the P40's, but he grew to LOVE the 51. I'm definitely going to watch his entire interview when I get an hour or so, hearing the stories from the pilots vs historians is far more compelling. Sadly the show doesn't feature any German aces, although for the first ep they did an extensive interview with one of the last remaining German aces, the whole thing is in German though so I couldn't understand it. Canadian, American, British and even a Polish ace are featured though. Probably the most exciting part of the show is they actually went and shot aerials of the warbirds to mix in with the CGI (which is looking super impressive so far). So far they've got Spits, Hurri's, Lancaster, P51's coming and 47's.
  14. I agree, Wags said specifically not too long ago not to expect SBP, but agree the air asset makes the game far more three dimensional than SBP (Also a great sim by the way). Just not really to be compared.
  15. Thank you, I can now concentrate on my work and leave the computer be this week. :smartass:

    DCS: FPS

high fidelity vehicle combat land sea and air is now seeming a reality with ED, given it's primarily a flight sim environment I really don't see any place for a controllable (first person) infantry. The strategic control of them (strategy game) suffices for me. ARMA satisfies the ground combat aspect, was built for ground combat and the vehicles obviously suffer because of this. I doubt a complete redesign of the engine from the ground up to satisfy the FPS would be commercially viable. Not when we could concentrate on where DCS really shines which is primarily AIR POWER (not to discredit the vehicles/armor...LOVE) I really never thought that would be made available to us. That's just MY HUMBLE OPINION, I'm more than satisfied with the direction ED have taken the series!
  17. Thanks Air_Wolf, I will seriously consider this when I get my new comp (probably mid July/August. Running a 2008 Macbook Pro now so my detail settings are looow and frame rates aren't great for super close formation flying). The show i'm working on will be wrapping up come Sept so that should give me a bit more free time. :pilotfly:Tonight was a hardcore exception. :)
  18. That was a blast, hopefully one day I'll get a bit more spare time to dedicate to an online squadron. The VTA are a cool lot for sure.
  19. :music_whistling: I've always wanted to see from their perspective what it's like to get wasted by a gau or a mavi ;)....so I hope my terrible aim pisses him off something fierce! :gun_smilie: Damnit I'm too excited to work...I love my job, but this is my first official "f*** this s***" moment!
  20. Ew, what subject?? Good luck on it though!
  21. I don't doubt it, great work on the video mate, as always! Can't wait to see what it looks like from the pov of the Shilka when she unleashes her fury ;) I imagine it to be like a hose shooting water, but instead of water it's DEATH!!!:joystick:
  22. Tomorrow?! No it I'll be Sunday night (when 51d was released) :pilotfly: (in my time zone anyway)
  23. Blown away! I knew about strategic aspect of CA, but the first person armor aspect floored me! I mean, ****ing brilliant (auto censored the verbal profanity). I'm very very very happy about this. I was a fan before, but in the past 6 months the amount of surprises coming at us has been staggering!
  24. So if you don't run freetrack will it not run??? If you're not running freetrack I can't imagine Natural Point or Codemasters would bother to initiate a "sensor sweep" of the system detecting an unrunning freetrack and therefore not running the program. It all seems a little bit excessive, especially if you've paid full price for the game. Natural Point most definitely does not have that kind of power with companies. Anyway just expressing my doubt to your diagnosis, I feel there is most likely something else causing the issue. (If not, sorry for my skepticism). All the best in figuring it out.
