How do I get a clear sky in this map?
Raven (Elysian Angel) replied to Livers's topic in Bugs and Problems
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe "nothing" is still a leftover setting from the older sprite clouds, which is why it looks the way it does. The only way to use the new weather system is to enable one of the existing templates. -
Yes and it also depends on if you're playing other games too, and which options you want to be enabled. Apparently Frame Generation *requires* HAGS to be enabled. I also found that disabling HAGS drops the framerate in Cyberpunk by 50% Game Mode is also something I keep left enabled. I see no performance penalty... Also, core isolation / memory integrity / VBS has very little if any performance penalty for modern CPUs as they have hardware accelerators for it. So it really depends on what you have (on my system on or off falls within margin of error).

X3D Turbo mode
Raven (Elysian Angel) replied to Dustbag1969's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
The only thing I heard about Turbo Mode (from Gigabyte motherboards) is that it's pretty much useless: you'd be better off with PBO. That's from someone on YouTube, I don't remember if it was Hardware Unboxed or Gamers Nexus. -
Option to force no JHMCS/HMD in the ME

Yes! -
Is AI cheating, or am I just bad at dogfighting? (Or both)
Raven (Elysian Angel) replied to Hiob's topic in Chit-Chat
The one thing that makes the most difference, in my experience, is having sufficient either horizontal or vertical (but preferably both) separation at the merge. The problem is that the AI is very capable at denying you any separation by constantly turning into you - if you let it, the AI will merge so close to your canopy that you can count the number of hairs of their moustache -
With or without extension?

Not yet it seems: https://chucksguides.com/ I prefer my own hotas setup anyway, loosely based on the real life one but with some convenience / commonality with other modules included.

That was not what I meant Doesn’t matter anyway, thanks for the info! Always great to be able to keep learning new things.

That probably makes the most sense: LSOs but still straight-in landings until they copied the Brits...

Mi-8 upgrade plans?
Raven (Elysian Angel) replied to NightFlier's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
I seem to recall a newsletter discussing Vulkan from years ago already, stating that they made their shaders compatible with both Direct3D 11 and Vulkan. Back then the plan was to initially have the sim support both (but likely requiring different DCS.exe executables ). -
Yes I seem to remember the USN even refused to operate them from carriers when they first entered service, because the issue with 1 wing stalling before the other lead to so many accidents. They gave the aircraft to the marines to fly from shore bases. It was the UK Navy that kept operating them from carriers because they had no other options.

Besides, were LSOs even used at the time? I seem to recall the landing pattern we're so used to in Case I was actually a British invention that worked so well, the US Navy decided to adopt it

Mi-8 upgrade plans?
Raven (Elysian Angel) replied to NightFlier's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
Yes there are. ED have said multiple times they "plan to" update all older modules, and the people behind the Mi-8 would like to make an AI co-pilot who can autonomously set the doppler system and switch between waypoints as defined in the ME. This is all known... But there is a difference between having "plans" and actually finding time and budget to do it. And if so, when... In fact, if the F-5 is the new "standard" for ED's definition of a Remaster, the Mi-8 is the only module of which I'd actually consider buying the upgrade because I love that helicopter so much... -
This is what I normally see when I open the in-game frametime counter (first image): Second and third is what I am seeing now... I didn't change any drivers, driver settings nor anything in BIOS. Windows settings are still the same too. I did test adding bkg_load_all_plugins = false to autoexec.cfg and bkg_load_signed_plugins = false (in another sesstion, not both of those commands at the same time) but that didn't change anything (not about the stuttering anyway). Of note is that I see that same stuttering and the CPU BOUND MAIN THREAD on the main menu. Added info: - I am not using any mods; - I ran a slow repair twice; - I have always set any game folder as exclusions in my AV (Windows Defender). dcs.log

Sure but for example door gunners' ROE can be set to "return fire" only, so that tells me the underlying logic is already present and functioning.

Glad this worked for you, but this is general advice (same counts for nVidia btw) that doesn't really have anything to do with this particular issue. Anti-lag and Reflex have their uses but mindlessly turning them on for everything and then forgetting about it is a bad idea. There are videos on YT explaining how that tech works (Gamers Nexus has one I believe) for those who want to know *why* it can lead to worse performance. In Nvidia's case there's even a tooltip warning users that turning it on potentially leads to worse framerates and can introduce stuttering.

Pretty much this. These last few patches introduced the first framerate/frametime problems I experienced in a long time, so at first I blamed windows update, but no other games has any issues so it definitely is caused by ED. I tried a whole list of different settings but nothing changes the headache-inducing stuttering. The only thing we can do is hope for a hotfix soon...
