Ok for the acronym :smilewink: I did in previous OB. I had the same behavior that you describe. I don't know if this is correct as IRL, but from my understanding: - when EMAV uncaged, it is slaving its Line Of Sight (LOS) to TPOD LOS. But isn't a valid condition to shoot since the laser isn't emitting. - when you hit pickle a first time, the laser start to illuminate the target. The EMAV then acquire the laser spot and is ready to shoot. - pickle a second time, the missile shoot and guide. Then LTD/R reset to OFF, and you need to cycle it again to ON for next firing pass. I won't update on this one since the radar seems broken

You need LTD/R, not LST if you're designating target with your TPOD. LST is to spot laser designation by other units.

What's the maximum range for the Link 13 pod to receive proper image?
jojo replied to sirrah's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
This is a 1990 missile. There was no JDAM in 1990. There wasn't any GPS in car, and many planes didn't have GPS either. F-16 didn't have targeting pod, there wasn't enough LANTIRN for F-15E Strike Eagle fleet in Desert Storm. Some crew went to Saudia Arabia with barely enough training, they were fortunate to have WSO who were trained for GBU on F-4E. So by 1990 having a missile that can fly 50Nm, get close enough to put target in seeker FoV and send back video feed to adjust impact point was SciFi feature. [Edit] Sorry, didn't saw previous answers. -
That's NEZ indication, usually I don't wait for that. :smilewink:

It’s a medium range missile. The practical range is comparable to AIM-7M, but with higher speed profile. The AIM-7M will really benefit from longer flight time very high at supersonic speed. So for Super 530D head on from 10Nm at sea level to 20Nm+ at high altitude. The higher & the faster and indeed you can improve the range PK. But for low altitude, if the target turn away the missile may go out of steam before reaching the target. If you can, keep the target above horizon to defeat beaming defensive maneuver.

Guys, maybe this is an issue with AGM-65E. The launch procedure just changed in the Hornet, maybe it broke it for the Harrier. Not long ago a beta update broke AIM-7 for F-14B, and it was on ED side. That kind of thing happens from time to time. I can't be 100% sure, but maybe it isn't Razbam fault if something is broken after OB update.

Not close enough apparently  Sorry, I couldn't help myself. :D I'm out :pilotfly:

I don't know if DCS simulate this. But IRL, Paveway II control surfaces are all or nothing. Each time the guidance kit make a correction, the guidance kit control surfaces go full deflection, so each correction produce drag which depletes bomb's energy, and it may fall short. This is way the preferred method is to delay the illumination, guiding the bomb only in terminal phase preserves the bomb energy and maneuvering capacity. The aircraft release system should compensate for the wind. But if there are wind shears in various level of altitude, the bomb may drift outside of guiding parameters and miss. IMHO, with strong winds, releasing down wind makes more sense. At the end, GBU-12 may not be the best suited weapon for moving targets. You have AGM-65 for that purpose.

To read DDI ? Yes absolutely.
-
Are you using the VR zoom ?
-
Every references I can find talk about GPS aided navigation. But this is mid-90' technology. Maybe it was good enough to guide the missile near the target area, but not good enough for terminal guidance.
-
Maybe that’s because now need to hold the trigger to manually illuminate the target ?
-
Yes, you have to hold the trigger to manually illuminate the target.

I would just like to remind everyone that Mirage 2000C RDI is an interceptor first with radar optimised to work in HFR pulse. Any AG radar mode (apart from TAS used for ranging) is just used for navigation. This isn’t an AG targeting sensor like for the Viggen. So don’t expect too much about it, it won’t change the way you fight...

After launch I orbit to stay away from the target. I monitor the TTS on store page, and I try to stabilise toward or away from the target but with wings level when TTS reach 0, so I can safely work head down. -
Does anyone knows if in game a Hornet with DL13 pod can guide the SLAM launched by another Hornet ? Apparently the capacity exist IRL.

No, JDAM aren’t only for pre planned targets. There are plenty of evidence of fighters loaded for CAS and waiting for targets of opportunity with JDAM, or dual guidance system like GBU-49 to have flexibility. GPS guided bombs can guide through clouds and smoke. GPS guided bombs are fire & forget, IRL laser guidance has much more limitations than in simulator (take care about not changing the face of the building you are targeting during guidance, laser spot size compared to target when you are targeting a vehicle and so on...). So there are pro and cons for each guidance system, and this is why having having both loaded on the plane during some kind of missions is great, having a weapon that can combine both guidance is even better (L-JDAM, Paveway IV, AASM...) Having fighters looking for targets in “kill boxes” can happen too depending on situation and ROE. There are plenty of different situations, military will use whatever is available and best suited to get the job done. But yes, some kind of “fog of war” would be cool.

From my test you can get the video feed out to nearly max range (50Nm), but the closer the better is the quality. Also you have to point in the direction of the missile (toward the target) or 180° away from it and select "A ANT" to get the video feed from behind. Be careful to the range as you are heading away. So watch your TTS timer and plan to stop your orbit when it gets to 0. You may turn left/ right to lower closure speed to target, but if you keep turning you will progressively loose quality, and you should select "A ANT" if the missile is behind you :smilewink: If you launch @M0.8/ FL300, you will be flying roughly 8Nm/mn, the missile will fly an average 9Nm/mn Quite high work load at the beginning and lot of things to think about :joystick: -
I was over-thinking the thing. I was disturb by th SBY on second missile, I thought I had to re-align it (2'30"). Also I found it's a little bit weird to un-box/ box DL13 pod (I tried it) to get video feed, but so be it...:joystick:

Great, my favorite language  Thanks

Up, does anyone have a "clean procedure" to launch successively and successfully 2 AGM-84E please ? However I have to say I'm impressed by the data link simulation which seems to depend on range, aspect and antenna selection  For the difference with the quality of C-802AKG datalink there are 2 possibilities: - level of limitations simulations (maybe it's more accurate on AGM-84E) - difference in datalink technology: since AGM-84E uses AGM-62 Walleye link it's probably analogic radio transmission. Being newer, the AKG variant of the C-802 may use digital signals.

I probably do something wrong, but using the same procedure, and firing at the same range, my first SLAM go all the way to the target and the second one splash into the sea mid range from the target :(

Harpoon use sucks without SEA mode, especially since we don't have 3rd party assets to provide SURPIC. AG radar starts with the Hornet, and even if the interest has faded away with GPS and targeting pod, AG radar API will be paramount for other modules people are waiting for (A-6, A-7 and so on…). It would be useful to play Desert Storm scenario with F-15E too. https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/4381/f-15-strike-eagles-over-saudi-arabia-then-and-now So yes, it was about time we get AG radar in DCS World.

Fit the Hornet with AIM-9M and AIM-7 and you have a chance :smilewink: Keep in mind that Mirage 2000C RDI is a NATO interceptor, it isn't designed to compete against F-16 or Hornet :smilewink:
