No, JDAM aren’t only for pre planned targets. There are plenty of evidence of fighters loaded for CAS and waiting for targets of opportunity with JDAM, or dual guidance system like GBU-49 to have flexibility. GPS guided bombs can guide through clouds and smoke. GPS guided bombs are fire & forget, IRL laser guidance has much more limitations than in simulator (take care about not changing the face of the building you are targeting during guidance, laser spot size compared to target when you are targeting a vehicle and so on...). So there are pro and cons for each guidance system, and this is why having having both loaded on the plane during some kind of missions is great, having a weapon that can combine both guidance is even better (L-JDAM, Paveway IV, AASM...) Having fighters looking for targets in “kill boxes” can happen too depending on situation and ROE. There are plenty of different situations, military will use whatever is available and best suited to get the job done. But yes, some kind of “fog of war” would be cool.

What's the maximum range for the Link 13 pod to receive proper image?
jojo replied to sirrah's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
From my test you can get the video feed out to nearly max range (50Nm), but the closer the better is the quality. Also you have to point in the direction of the missile (toward the target) or 180° away from it and select "A ANT" to get the video feed from behind. Be careful to the range as you are heading away. So watch your TTS timer and plan to stop your orbit when it gets to 0. You may turn left/ right to lower closure speed to target, but if you keep turning you will progressively loose quality, and you should select "A ANT" if the missile is behind you :smilewink: If you launch @M0.8/ FL300, you will be flying roughly 8Nm/mn, the missile will fly an average 9Nm/mn Quite high work load at the beginning and lot of things to think about :joystick: -
I was over-thinking the thing. I was disturb by th SBY on second missile, I thought I had to re-align it (2'30"). Also I found it's a little bit weird to un-box/ box DL13 pod (I tried it) to get video feed, but so be it...:joystick:

Great, my favorite language  Thanks

Up, does anyone have a "clean procedure" to launch successively and successfully 2 AGM-84E please ? However I have to say I'm impressed by the data link simulation which seems to depend on range, aspect and antenna selection  For the difference with the quality of C-802AKG datalink there are 2 possibilities: - level of limitations simulations (maybe it's more accurate on AGM-84E) - difference in datalink technology: since AGM-84E uses AGM-62 Walleye link it's probably analogic radio transmission. Being newer, the AKG variant of the C-802 may use digital signals.
-
I probably do something wrong, but using the same procedure, and firing at the same range, my first SLAM go all the way to the target and the second one splash into the sea mid range from the target :(

Harpoon use sucks without SEA mode, especially since we don't have 3rd party assets to provide SURPIC. AG radar starts with the Hornet, and even if the interest has faded away with GPS and targeting pod, AG radar API will be paramount for other modules people are waiting for (A-6, A-7 and so on…). It would be useful to play Desert Storm scenario with F-15E too. https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/4381/f-15-strike-eagles-over-saudi-arabia-then-and-now So yes, it was about time we get AG radar in DCS World.
-
Fit the Hornet with AIM-9M and AIM-7 and you have a chance :smilewink: Keep in mind that Mirage 2000C RDI is a NATO interceptor, it isn't designed to compete against F-16 or Hornet :smilewink:
-
Since ED is communicating about the fact they had to modify the maps to work with Hornet AG radar, I'm not sure that Deka is using the same API as the Hornet. We also had the Viggen and A-4 free mod. It's more probably some custom solutions.

Yes, but it's a different weapon system with a different radar :smilewink:

I will try to check that on my side...

[OLD BUG REPORTS] Cleaning and Organization of old posts
jojo replied to RAZBAM_ELMO's topic in Resolved Bugs
Indeed, this is reported both on stable and open beta, standard AI issue. -
There are minimal modes on RDI: - VIS: equivalent to Real Beam Mapping - DEC: looks like Terrain Avoidance on Hornet. TAS is AG Arafat ranging and it’s already available in game. The fact that we see the start of AG radar on Hornet doesn’t mean that the API is released to 3rd party. The AG radar modes on M-2000C won’t change the way you fight, this more for all weather navigation. You can’t designate targets in VIS mode for instance.

Yes that's the same issue with fuselage tank. If you land with it, it doesn't refuel. By the way, wing tanks are 2000L :smilewink: -
Yep, I did check and everything is working as usual. No one else is reporting the issue. So it's probably on your side Hitnrun...

AI planes drop ATL for no reason
jojo replied to Thumper5's topic in Aircraft AI Bugs (Non-Combined Arms)
Unfortunately yes, it's because of SAM, even outside of effective range. If you add "ignore threat they stay at high altitude. -

jojo replied to RAZBAM_ELMO's topic in Resolved Bugs
It isn't specific to M-2000C. It's happening to F-16 too. There was some HUD recording, and both modules have been seen suffering 25G+. So it isn't about the module, it is about the wake turbulence simulation which is totally excessive. The best thing to do is too disable it right now since it's optional. -
That part didn't change, it's still Weapon System CMD Depress to unlock radar contact.
-
Maybe it's a language problem  You don't have to turn off radar. To erase RDO contact (yellow) = theta up, it's the bottom button on the left side of the radar screen, close to "RAZ" written on the radar screen. If you don't want to have the radar screen cluttered with RDO contact, with any AA weapon selected, click on "RDO" on PCA (S turns off on the button).
-
Again, when it's yellow, it isn't a locked target, it's a memory track of previous/ lost target. So you can lock a contact, get dat about it (track & speed), break lock and you will get velocity vector for that target. As long as the contact keeps constant track and speed, the green echo will stay with yellow ghost contact. At the same time, you can get another lock on another target. So you will get one radar track (green) + one memory track (yellow) on screen. Like said, you can erase yellow track with theta up, and you can prevent it from re-appearing by un-selecting "RDO" on PCA's top row while in AA mode. RDO is ON by default.

I don't like the Warthog gimbal I tried. So I decided to please myself and I'm using a Virpil WarBRD base with TM Hornet stick, this is a great combo. Using it with M-2000C, Hornet and Tomcat currently it's working great. It's expensive, but I have confidence that it will last a long time. Currently I'm using it as side stick on desk. It isn't great and it isn't meant to stay that way. It's too high on the desk. I have other things to sort out IRL before that. But I don't see any problem as side stick provided that the height is good (desk mount of some sort like Virpil, Foxx Mount, Monstertech, DIY...or maybe Warthog stick base is lower than WarBRD ?) I would even say that the stick being curved forward is more comfortable than the Warthog stick which is usually not tilted forward enough. (I also have a TM Cougar modded with force sensing device). I also fly mainly in VR now and I like very much the switch they added for that purpose (VR zoom and centering once in a while). Is it mandatory buy if you have a Warthog ? No, off course. PS: the real Hornet stick is resin, not metal. So it doesn't matter that the TM Hornet stick isn't full metal :smilewink:

Maybe not direct kill, but MBT can still be damaged... Radio antennas, optical sight, wheel tracks... But your right, for instance in Libya they used GBU-22 with Paveway III kit to improve direct hit probability against MBT
-
Super Sampling x1.5 does the trick in most situation, if not VR zoom.:smilewink: But yes, I'm looking forward to this headset too.:D
-
I think I read something similar in MiG-29G manual. Mirage 2000 is also restricted to 2 successive rolls. But in the Hornet video he was rolling at 0G, so pushing on the stick.

If after detection, you go into the beam at BVR range, the AI won't engage you, but will keep pointing the nose constantly tracking on you.
