high-end system performance issues -- stuttering
av8orDave replied to dmatsch's topic in Game Performance Bugs
Not sure why these posts get so much pushback. Seems to me that it is a true statement that the biggest thing that needs addressed in DCS is the performance. I also have a very high-end rig, and VR with any number of AI units cripples the experience. As the OP said, the solution for something like Liberation seems to be firing up a local server, which is silly. When you do this, the game performs much, much better. It needs handled. I’m sure they’re working on it, but it would be good to know where it is on the priority list and if the improvement is coming sometime soon. It has been talked about forever! -
When you're acting in single player as CPG, put George in CMBT mode, and do a "short right" command to get him to fly direct to a waypoint. When he reaches the waypoint, he automatically flies to the next. I've had some good success bouncing from FLT to CMBT to H-B mode with George. He also occasionally flies into the ground without explanation, but I sort of figured ol' George would pull that sort of thing.

I resolved much of my FPS issues by changing textures to medium, vis range to low, and changing the HDU monocle from right eye to both.
-
Just an update: Setting textures to medium, visibility range to low, and most importantly, changing the IHADDS rendering from "right eye only" to "both" seems to have solved my FPS issues.
-
Yeah, you're absolutely right about that. I can get pretty decent performance in super-simple scenarios. Apply it to Liberation or the like, and we're back to 20 fps with stutters.

Just tried flying as CPG with George at the flight controls for the first time. I've gotta say, I'm impressed! George is a much more capable pilot than I am, and it is pretty easy to get him to do what you'd like. Big kudos to ED for getting this done!

cannot reproduce and missing track file George as CPG and the gun
av8orDave replied to av8orDave's topic in Bugs and Problems
Yes, sure did. Then I flew into engagement parameters. -
When I’m flying as pilot, Is there a way to get George to fire the gun? Seems easy to get him to use hellfire and rockets, but no luck with the gun. I’m trying: select gun on George interface master arm on slave & find targets Make George go “hot” nothing happens i also tried giving the consent to release command. Any ideas?

Just hit ‘RTE’ on the TSD, hit ‘DIR’, then click the waypoint you want to fly to or punch it into the keypad thing as W02 (i.e. for waypoint 2). Easy.

What kind of missions are you flying that result in those frame rates? i.e. how many units? Anything complicated kills my fps.
-
Would those of you getting good performance in VR mind posting your specs and settings?
-
I think the performance issues are entirely CPU related. Now, keep in mind, I have no idea what I'm talking about and am not a software engineer. Having said this, I can load up the same DCS Liberation mission (very taxing on hardware due to the number of units) on a dedicated server on the same PC and go from 20 - 30 FPS to 72 FPS due to it using the hardware more efficiently. Not sure why this "hack" that takes 2 minutes is something that is taking so long to implement as a core feature of the game, but here we are.

If I want to hellfire an ammo dump or hangar or barracks, can George lock it up? Thanks!

Altitude hold isn’t implemented yet.

Me too. 5950x, 3080, 64GB ram, ssd framerate was nearly unplayable until I reduced the resolution on my quest 2.
-
That is just awesome! Kudos to @McDanielon finding a keeper like that! Don't let that one go!

I'm working today, so won't get a chance to fly it in VR til late tonight probably. Looking forward to seeing what everyone thinks. If the framerate / performance is there, I think it has potential to be the very best VR module. I've flown basically all the modules in VR, and I think the Hind takes the cake currently. I don't really like the Mi-24 itself that much, but the experience of sitting in the old Soviet-designed cockpit, the texturing, the weight / feeling of the flight model, and the low-level flight experience really makes you feel like you're at the controls of a war machine. I think the Apache can top it. Pretty pumped. Thanks for starting the thread @Zap921.

I still haven't grown up indeed. With the impending launch of the AH-64, it's crazy to think about the changes in flight simming over the years. I started flying with Falcon 2, Strike Eagle III, moved on to Falcon 3 and Fleet Defender, and finally Janes Longbow & Longbow 2 (along with a few WWII sims like Aces Over Europe). I was 14 when Longbow came out, and 14 year old me would never believe how things would change with modern sims like DCS (especially combined with VR). All that sim flying made it a piece of cake to get my real pilots license, but I still love being able to hop into a badass machine like an AH-64 from the comfort of my home. Looking forward to the launch tomorrow.

Cold start seems like it'll be super simple; basically battery, APU, align the doppler, configure fuel flow, start engine 1, advance to idle, star engine 2, advance to idle, boresight hmd, move throttles to flight once the oil is ready. Am i missing anything?
-
Anyone have a plan for the first day of flying? Mine: - Execute the cold start procedure a few times. - Learn and understand the symbology on the HDU / IHADDS; do some basic practice navigating the MFDs. - Get comfortable with day taxiing, takeoff, landing, hovering, all the basic phases of flight. - Depending on how that goes, maybe do some night flying as well. - Maybe spend 5 minutes firing off the gun & rockets if I'm feeling ambitious.
-
Unless I'm missing it, the FAQ says "US Army and other liveries"... not exactly the description I think were looking for. Does anyone know what will be included?

Well, looks like Thursday it is.
