Shepski replied to EagleEye's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Great write up and video Chris!! For the others... here's a quick start flow checklist I made to get you up and running from a cold cockpit with limited tests using a flow pattern to make it more efficient and easy to memorize. KA-50 Start Flows - Quick Start with limited tests. - Battery 1 and 2 - on - Nav lights - on - "ABCK" intercom switch - on - Lamp Test - press to check all lights and audible warning functioning *Ground Power - If Required* - SPU-9 Radio Panel - "HON" - Advise Ground service you want ground power. - "\" F10, F3, F1 - DC and AC ground power - on Before Engine Start Flow - Fuel meter - on - Stopped engine EGT gauge test - press - Fuel meter gauge test - press - Forward and aft fuel boost pumps - on - APU fuel shut-off valve - open - Standby attitude power - on - NAV system ground power - on - EKRAN system power - on - INU power - on - INU heat - on - Voice message system test - press - Engine/APU start select switch - APU - Engine/APU start button - press - monitor APU EGT Engine Start Flow - Park brake - on - Ejection seat - arm - Left engine fuel shut-off valve - open - Anti-collision light - on - Left/right engine EEG switches - on - Rotorbrake - off - Engine/APU start select switch - left engine - Engine/APU start button - press - At 20% Ng, left engine fuel cut-off lever - open - monitor EGT and engine RPM increase to idle(60-65%) - Right engine fuel shut-off valve - open - Engine/APU start select switch - right engine - Engine/APU start button - press - At 20% Ng, right engine fuel cut-off lever - open - monitor EGT and engine RPM increase to idle(60-65%) - Engine throttle levers - auto (2 positions up) - Left and right engine generators - on - APU shut-off button - press - APU fuel shut-off valve - close - Request ground service personnel to remove ground power - "\" f10, F3, F2 - DC and AC ground power - off After Start Flow - ABRIS power - on - Standby attitude indicator - uncage and set - Running engine EGT gauge test - press - All remaining radio/datalink switches - on - Weapon control system - on - IFF - on - UV-26 countermeasure power - on - Laser warning system power - on - Signal flare power - on - Autopilot channel switches - on - Baro/radar altitude hold - as required - Heading/track mode - as required - PVI-800 mode selector - on (PA6) - NAV Waypoint button(NNM) - press and select waypoint number on the keypad - Center panel - configure as necessary - K-041 targeting and NAV system power - on - ABRIS - configure - Park brake - release -
I forgot to mention... Thank you very much to everyone who worked on bringing us this fantastic model with skins, missions, and more in such a short period of time!!! Well done guys and looking forward to the next release! Cheers

that screenshot looks squished. Was your resolution and aspect size set correctly?

Thanks diveplane... I've always used intel and plan on doing so again. I guess I'm wondering which CPU.. the duo or the quad... I'll only need it for running sims or the odd game... I don't do much in the way of multimedia work like Chris does.

Hi Chris! Great article on building your first PC!! The last canned PC of mine was a P100 and building your own is easier then most people think. Seeing that my system is VERY old, and that my Tax refund cheque just showed up... I'm seriously thinking of building another machine. I have no idea on the current state of hardware so I'm looking at the components you used as a guideline. Anything you would change or do differently after getting some time on the machine? I usually build a high end machine that will be upgradable over the next number of years rather than build a new machine every few years. Can anyone else offer some suggestions on the new technology that I should look into? Thanks!

Ya they arew dzus... those are all quick access panels, especially on the left side of the nose. I think the work on the skins is great but the grid pattern, especially on the wings and engine cowls, stands out so much it takes your attention away from the real beauty of the skin work. Dirty skins are fine but when I look at that Flipper skin all I see is the grid pattern... it's over done IMO.
-
Aft of the pilot compare the thickness of the lines... much thicker compared to the real pic. The dzus camlocks are what are standing out on the panels as they allow for quick access and panel removal. They are bigger than rivets and spaced farther apart on the skin. The actual flush rivets forward of the canopy on the grey skinned A-10 you link above are barely visible. Look at this: And these: http://www.airliners.net/photo/USA---Air/Fairchild-A-10A-Thunderbolt/1333145 http://www.airliners.net/photo/USA---Air/Fairchild-A-10A-Thunderbolt/1328554 http://www.airliners.net/photo/USA---Air/Fairchild-A-10A-Thunderbolt/1323723&photo_nr=18&prev_id=1324450&next_id=1322847 http://www.airliners.net/photo/USA---Air/Fairchild-A-10A-Thunderbolt/1321655&photo_nr=21&prev_id=1322481&next_id=1320423 http://www.airliners.net/photo/USA---Air/Fairchild-A-10A-Thunderbolt/1293885&photo_nr=63&prev_id=1293919&next_id=1292477 The Lock On skin has way too much definition in the panel lines and rivets on the wings and nacelles. I think Rocky and SuperKungfu's skins look more natural.
-
Great work but the panel lines and rivets stand out WAY too much on the fuselage and wings.

We listen to the radio in flight by tuning in an AM radio station on the ADF all the time. It's great when an important football or hockey game is on. :) In Black Shark Maykop is a radio station that can be tuned in and users can, I believe, add sound files of their choosing that will broadcast over radio Maykop in the game.
-
None of the new textures are in the beta builds... we add them as they are released.

With the trigger system you can have infantry appear then move when a condition like a vehicle is damaged is met. EvilBivol made an example mission showing the use of triggers. CSAR... I tried and it watched an Mi-8 simulate dropping a rescue force on the ground followed by an enemy infantry ambush from the trees. A lot is possible with the trigger system.

New Tutorial:: Su-27: Tanker Attack Mission
Shepski replied to Ironhand's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Flask... I fly for a living and have been involved with Eagle Dynamics for about 10 years. If what they develop wasn't any good I wouldn't have been with them for so long. ;) Rich... is Goran still around or is this from times past? As for offline mission competition... HMASP(Higher Military Aviation School for Pilots) was the first of it's kind created by Marek Paul and furthered by Trak Dah... way back in early Flanker days. Those were some fun times and great competition by an international group of Flanker pilots. Thanks for the great job on the video Rich! -
It doesn't take too long before you have the flows memorized. :)

Here is a flow check list for the Ka-50 I made from in-game. It is more of a quick start checklist with less system tests. Black Shark - a new level of switchology
Shepski replied to RedTiger's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
The ones behind the cyclic are tougher to get to so moving your head to the side and or up and forward to see behind the cyclic is necessary. The good thing is that those switches aren't really needed during times of high intensity. I really don't see any problems with the Black Shark 6DOF cockpit when it comes to reaching switches but I feel TIR with 6DOF is a necessity. -
If it's a 2D panel then I'm disappointed... 2D panels have no more use in simulations other then wasting resources.

You can safely do it taking cover behind a ridge with auto-hover engaged. -
Black Shark - a new level of switchology
Shepski replied to RedTiger's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
The autopilot is your friend! When you have to mess around with the ABRIS other then using map and nav modes either stop and hover or slow down with the autopilot in altitdue hold/route or heading mode. You can map the ABRIS push buttons to your stick for ease of zooming the map in and out or changing waypoints which is what you will spend most of the time doing in a hot zone. Entering units into the datalink system uses the panel on the left side of the upper caution panel and not the ABRIS itself. -
It's been a work in progress... took me 8 years to get that setup! :) No HUD or pickle button but there are hot flight attendants, hot meals, and a bathroom. ;)
