Would be a huge to be able to see where the helipads are. Also, as a nice bonus, be able to use them with a spawn capability for AI + refuel and rearm option, just like any airport. Thanks.

We have been trying to list them as well. If only they were marked on the map or even better, usable as a respawn point with refuel/rearm capabilities just like any other airport. Here is what we have so far: SAINT GEORGE HOSPITAL UNIVERSITY MEDICAL CENTER BEIRUT - LEBANON N33 53.648 E35 31.424 ALT 106 m RMK: No collision file (early access version) RAMBAM HELICOPTERS AIRFIELD HAIFA - ISRAEL N32 50.008 E34 59.271 ALT 7 m RMK: none NETAFIM MILITARY BASE ISRAEL N32 48.489 E35 25.512 ALT 386 m RMK : none QUDSSAYA LOGISTICS INSTALLATION SYRIA N33 32.961 E36 14.920 ALT 905 m RMK : Has revetments. 16 Go RAM is getting tight for Syria. And also the size of your Video Ram is not ideal. I am running at settings High and my 11Go of my video card is full at 99% with all the textures. My 32Go RAM is 70% full too while flying over Syria. What settings are you running in DCS?

This map is by far the best looking map ever available in DCS and the size is perfect. But I am talking from the RW point of view, that is below 110 kt and 200 ft. We flew 2.5 hours last night from Turkey to Syria across the mountains, tight canyons, following up the rivers, then into green valleys followed by dryer areas. Jaw dropped for the entire flight. We couldn't believe how beautiful this map is. Custom buildings everywhere. Possibilities for missions are so endless our mission designers just don't know where to start. Now if you are flying at 600 kt and 30,000 ft, I guess there is nothing much to see up there. I wouldn't know, I got hypoxia above 1,500 ft. :-P

Welcome to the light side Cowboy10uk! :) A very brave post and credits to you! So sad there are still a lot of flat earthers here who, despite all the evidences provided by people with much higher credentials, are still digging their head in the dirt trying to prove they are right. So much time lost not enjoying this nice little module.

+1 Waddell. Gazelle is still giving me some real scare sometimes while I can land any other RW anywhere without breaking a sweat (except maybe the Mi8 and its tendency to VRS so easily). Of course you need some decent controllers with no spring centering to fully enjoy it.

Making a SAM site not shoot until you cross a certain line
BaD CrC replied to Ori Peleg's topic in Mission Editor
Just create a trigger zone over the SAM with the radius you want. De activate the SAM first + check visible) in the ME. Then in the triggers, activate it when you are entering the trigger zone. (set it from hold fire to free fire works also). -
The gazelle is the most fun chopper to fly in DCS. Never got surprised by her unless I am trying to fly in ways that I won't do IRL, which would also go against the basic principles of flying a sim. Unlike the other DCS RW, she requires some tweaks on the axis curves to be completely fine to fly but once you got that, it no better or worse than any other RW modules. (I hope we won't start another FM discussion here because I can't take it anymore). Casmo, an actual OH-58D pilot took the gazelle for a spin recently. Flying the Huey or the Mi8, it's a bit like driving a pickup truck. It's stable and accessible to anyone. Flying the Gazelle is more like a fast sport car. You cannot fly her the same ways.

Mi8 is an awesome RW module. It should be a logical transition from the Huey if you are into a lift platoon once you got the full hang on the Huey. FM is great, systems are a lot more complex to handle and it flies like a big bus so it is not much harder to fly than the Huey except that she is more prone to VRS. Mi8 is a great chopper to train on if you want to transition later to the Mi24 since it's got very similar systems and the Mi24 is after all a glorified Mi8. (don't shoot me here! :)). But the Huey is still benefiting from his aura and reputation. Certainly the most popular module for our squad with nearly 60% of our pilots flying it. Not a lot we can do about this.

According to Polychop, having a good handle on the gazelle is recommended before flying the 58D because both choppers are very twitchy and the OH tactics are quite similar. The Huey is a nice chopper to learn how to fly helicopters in general. It is very easy to handle and has no complex systems to manage. So if you are new to helicopter, yes, you would need to start with the Huey. Now if you are already a confirmed DCS RW pilot, you should fly as much as you can on the gazelle to make the transition to the 58D more easily. Ah yes, as for the Ka50, completely different chopper. No real use to fly her if you plan to go to the 58.

Suggestion to E.D. and 3rd parties devs - size and formats of DDS
BaD CrC replied to LucShep's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Sounds all like pretty interesting and valid suggestions LucShep. Now regarding the ground objects, remember that not every DCS pilot is waging virtual wars comfortably sitting at 10000 ft, head down playing with their fancy displays and dropping GPS guided bombs at a very safe distance. Helicopter pilots are getting really close (sometimes too close) to those vehicles and a nice definition of the textures is appreciated (granted, maybe not as much as 4096x4096) to avoid friendly fire. -
Runs great on dedicated server here Gizzy. Maybe just forget about fixed wings. This map is made for choppers anyway!

You guys did a mind blowing job. This map is so beautifully detailed, monuments, buildings, cities and town, trees, landing pads, rolling hills, orchards, deserts, forests. So much diversity! And those heliports all around Damascus! Beauties. Finally places in DCS just for us!. Really no other map compares to what you did here for DCS Syria. It is so gorgeous it should be a crime to fly this map faster than 120kt and 200 ft. That's just plain disrespect for your work! :) Hence a big thank you from the small, often overlooked community of DCS RW pilots! We flew tonight with a bunch of our pilots from Damascus to Beirut, with dropped jaws all the way. Possibilities for missions are endless. And that was only just a very small area of the map. With the Mi 24 and OH58D coming, this is about to become a dream come true. For a early access, I have to say we didn't find much problems with the map at all. We found that the collision model for hospital landing pads are missing (at least the one in Beirut that we tried to land on). But we are pretty sure this is just something you are already working on. So as a conclusion, best money spent since a long time in the DCS shop! Totally worth it. Even at non discounted price! Thank you!

AAA fires requires that they can see you which is not the case when nights are really dark. You can get some decent results of AAA fires at night by selecting a date in the ME with decent level of illumination. If you want complete darkness and still having AA fires, you will need to go for Shilkas.

So I guess the answer is yes, the 24 has the same radios than the Mi8.

Lol. Send back to where we belong ebabil! The small RW Ghetto! No room for RW in the main DCS forum (or their Discord server).

Highly sensitive subject harf4ng. I raised the question, a little after release, about having those cool crew members interacting and marshalling helicopters some day and was carpet bombed by the F18 and F14 fanboys. Official reason (not official by ED) for this was that none of the choppers we have in DCS are supposed to operate on aircraft carriers.
-
You usually have to be on the same version to fly on a MP server, OB or not (it happened a few times that the patch was minor enough to let you fly on a server with a slightly different version, but it is not the rule). Usually, MP servers running OB are all updating very quickly. After one or two days, all servers are usually up to date. But it is possible, during the first few hours after you ran the update, that you see very little number of servers on the Multiplayer list. This is kind of the only way to know that the server you are looking for is up to date: it shows on the MP list.
-
If the server you are flying on is running a mission with a CSAR script, yes you can. Ejected pilots would pop up on the ground where their parachute landed and start to call for pickup while activating their beacon. Hovering long enough above or landing close enough will make him board the chopper. You can even block the aircraft slot to prevent the said pilot to respawn before he is actually rescued. Without CSAR, there nothing much you can do except landing next to the ejected pilot and pretend it boarded the chopper. And while you can move around your pilot after you ejected, it is not synchronized in MP.

Why aren't toggle switches supported by default?
BaD CrC replied to RudderButt's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Let's say it's already great that you can edit a lua file to make it work. Not all games/sims allow it. There are tons of solutions for this. Did you look at the Input and Output/ Home cockpits part of this forum?
