  1. If there is anything useful in this thread, it is the result of the poll. The community clearly don't give a damn about all the haters, trolls and "experts" rant.
  2. Yes. We sadly don't get LTE in DCS choppers. Would be a cool addition to the things we already have to deal with like VRS, Settling with Power, Low G pushover, overtorque, dynamic rollover, retreating blade stall, autorotations,... The more things trying to kill you (beside the enemy), the more fun!
  3. First day buy for me! The Gazelle has a bad start but now it is an immensely fun little helicopter to fly despite some discrepancies that plague other modules too. I trust PC to make a great module with the KW. They had a very good communication on their Discord channel, but just not on this forum because it became too toxic.
  4. Hello Mr Scar. Most of our pilots waiting for the Mi24 are either training on the ka50 or the Mi8. I would say the Ka50 is great to learn the AH tactics while the Mi8 is great to learn a lot of the Mi24 systems. Ka50 is a more modern, avionics wise, whirlybird than the Mi24P though. The biggest part when you learn helicopters is more about flying than fighting, unlike the fixed wings that are very simple to fly but offer more complex avionics systems (until we got the Kiowa). A good way to start with flying choppers is with the Huey. It is simple and the FM is good. You will have all the opportunities to learn the many ways an helicopter keeps trying to kill you at any moment of the flight (VRS, settling with power, LTE, dynamic rollover, retreating blade stall, auto rotations, over torque,...). Then you can move to heavier or more complex choppers. I suspect the Mi24 will handle a bit better than the Mi8 while probably not be as agile as the Ka50.
  5. Hello Admiral, I have an issue with your Armed Syrian Boat. It looks like some textures are not found: the main mounted 30mm gun is showing the green digital texture as well as the glass of the lights. Any hint? Thanks.
  6. Was totally expected when they announced the A10C II (months after the announcement of BS3). Choppers always come last. I was fool enough to say it loud on the forum on day 1 and got destroyed by the flyboys.
  7. This is quite shocking to see how little consideration ED have for their 3rd parties. Sure they can change the core code for DCS when they want, but the least they can do is to give a head start to them so the patch doesn't end up braking the module. It is damaging to the company in terms of image and additional working hours/$$$ to fix it. Isn't there a liability clause somewhere in the contract between ED and a 3rd party?
  8. This is actually a nice movie. Very good find.
  9. Would be awesome to finally have a decent brownout effect and generally speaking, realistic dust effects. We can spot choppers on the ground or vehicles at insane distances just by the white dust it is blowing away. Smokes can also be seen from extremely far away and stick out of the landscape way too much.

Yes! Just open the chat menu and type your message! :)
  11. I think this has been mentioned before but I haven't seen any reply. When exporting the NS430 display through viewport, the said display becomes super dark with no possibility to get the lighting up. Why is it behaving like this and is there anything to correct this?
  12. Ah ah. OK, that was a bit harsh maybe. :). Although I wonder what else you can do in a DCS FW. But I can't say I am flying them in DCS.
  13. Pave Low will be a nice answer to the Mi8, although the BlackHawk will probably be more appropriate. As for Fixed Wings, ED was clear indeed that it is not going to happen. DCS FW pilots just want to shoot and blow things up.
  14. ok. Thanks for your help. If no one else is reporting this, I guess this is coming from my side.
  15. You'll need to add to the cover a momentary micro switch. Bu a simpler way is to combine the two actions on your physical switch. So both cover and master arm switch will get activated in game when you are flipping your physical master arm switch.
  16. Crap. What's going on then with my DCS??? Are you flying latest beta?
  17. Yes, but unit dead doesn't let you select static. Only units. Also, anything with GROUP ALIVE LESS THAN (static or unit) stays always false. I suspect GROUP DEAD, GROUP ALIVE LESS THAN and GROUP ALIVE are all broken for whatever objects in DCS.
  18. Throttle is always at max for normal flight 3Star, for any chopper. You are using it only for startup and if you want to perform some autorations. The rest of the time, all the way up.
  19. GROUP DEAD condition for me is always returning TRUE for a static, no matter if the said static is dead or alive. Well, especially when it is alive which is ennoying. Attached super simple mission. test.miz
  20. Hello Passero. Pretty much everything has been said. I hope you already enjoy flying choppers on DCS. RW is a completely different world than the fighters. Flying them requires a lot more concentration and skills usually so choice of controls are extremely important. It's not impossible to fly with spring centered sticks and a lot of pilots are doing it this way, but it is just less realistic. Now having FFB for simulating the trim is another level in realism but like the non spring centered stick, it is not absolutely vital to fly RW in DCS. Once you get hooked, maybe you want to invest in more realistic controls, but it is a lot more expensive than FW because they are such a niche market. Among the only 4 helicopters available in DCS (hopefully soon 6), the UH1 is the most common. The FM is not too bad, it is easy to fly and learn since it is a very basic chopper. Excellent for learning but then limited after a while. The 3 other ones are really about your own taste. Attack, lift or scout.
  21. +1. Keep in mind that scenery destruction action doesn't work in MP
  22. Yes, I will ask him. Good suggestion.
  23. OT again. Air refueling a chopper must be the most challenging task you can ever think of.
  24. Hi Fusedspine33. As I said, I don't own the stl files. No way I could have done this quality of work.
  25. Hi guys, This has been a 6 months long project that I wouldn't have been able to complete without the amazing talent of some pilots of my squadron here (@Zeb thanks! You are a champ!) and some help from Polychop for the dimensions.(thanks guys!) Getting your hands on a real OH-58D cyclic grip is already quite a challenge but not impossible (see my post here). But getting your hands on a OH-58D Collective is apparently mission impossible. After months trying to find something on Ebay, I decided, like many other here, to try and build my own and not wait for Virpil to have one finally ready. I was facing several challenges (taking into account I have close to no talent to build stuff): - get the proper "collective head" done. - have the throttle twist grip and the idle release button functional - get hat switches that don't cost hundreds of dollars each (Otto) - make the wiring as compact as possible. The collective head was out of reach for me. Thankfully, Zeb, one of our pilots at BSD who is also working on his own collective (it will just be much better than mine!) took the challenge to model and 3D print this part for me. The result blew my mind. Top quality! The collective stick itself was found on ebay from a real Bell 206. So the whole mechanism for the throttle twist grip was already in place. Zeb found a way to mechanically couple the twist grip with a pot as well as a micro switch when the twist grip is in full idle position (once the idle rel button is pressed). For the hat switches, 3 of them were provided (not free) by Thrustmaster customer service. They are the ones you can find on the Warthog grip. The 4th one (lights control) as well as the RPM one are 2nd hand Otto switches also found on ebay. Some hat switches on the real collective are keyed 45/135/225/315 instead of 0/90/180/270. This is useful to feel the different hat switches without looking down. But I haven'e been able to source those specific hat switches and you cant rotate the hat the way you want on TM ones or even the Otto ones. I didn't find a cheap way to laser etch the front panel so I used dry decals + matt varnish. Not as clean as laser but I like the weathered effect it gives. Of course, I lost the possibility to backlight it. I know there is no RMT ICS switch normally on the 58D (it's been removed years ago), but I added one ON/ON one nonetheless that I can use to flip from one configuration to another (like left seat to right seat for example, or one chopper to another). For the USB interface, I was looking for something that actually fits INSIDE the collective head so I don't have to route dozens of wires (total of 29 wires!) through the two very narrow holes left inside the stick. I found this DSD Micro 32 buttons controller that not only fits, but also it recognized by DCS. Now, you STILL have to route almost 30 wires but inside the collective head, and it is really tight!! What's left is a USB plug and 3 wires for the pot of the twist grip. I connected the pot on the Leo Bodnard card that I am already using to interface the 58D cyclic + the collective Hall Effect Sensor of my collective base (a microhelis.de one) Luckily, the diameter of the microhelis.de base closely match the diameter of the real B206 collective. Rudder is not 58D's obviously but it is modded with the centering springs removed and the hydraulic damper installed (see ). Sensation is amazing when flying rotaries. Should be good now, Waiting for the DCS module to be available!
