Afterburner not coming on and radar inverted
RustBelt replied to crazyave's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
Have you checked that you haven’t fallen victim to the random control assignment defaulting? -
Are you dead centering your view on the gauge to eliminate parallax? Or pulling the Bug and Radar alt numbers from DCSbios?

DCS is an imperfect system. Don’t forget the opponent AI is part of a Free program you happened to buy a 3rd party add on for. How good an Opponent system do you think you get for 0 money? It would be sweet if a 3rd party could make a superior AI, but planes and scenery seem to be enough of a handful as it is.

You don't put changes in the stable branch until you've worked out any problems your changes have made.....Well.......Ideally anyways. Either way, all fixes and changes go to Open Beta First, Any problems get passed on to Stable after enough people become desensitized to them.

Feedback Thread F-14 Tomcat - Update 10th March 2023
RustBelt replied to IronMike's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
When you fly in real life you don’t Look/Touch/Verify? That’s like basic commercial error prevention. It’s one of the cores of safe operations outside of Recreational GA. And in emergency procedures it’s a no joke you’re canned if you forget it in a sim ride. To put on my actual Flight instructor hat for a second; Please consider integrating it into your flying. Never engage a control without being positive it’s the one you intended. And fumbling for a mouse blind is nothing at all like trying to work a switch panel blind, which was what the other poster was talking about. -

Carrier landing speed "You're a little slow"
RustBelt replied to RogerRamjet's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
This. But that still doesn’t solve IFLOLS or PLAT aiming. ED needs to just train their LSO on the Tomcat. Or make an APK for 3rd party to do it soon. Because F-4 navy, A-6, A-7, and F-8 are all in the Charlie stack. -

Did the log say that it was fixed? And is it a factor in Flight Model Characteristics? -

Because you need to look at things to touch them. Especially when you want to be positive what you're reaching for. There's a lot of fumbling involved with VR combined with real controls. To say nothing of the knuckle bashing. -

I have to say, although I still hate the limitations of VR, my situational awareness is WAY higher than using TrackIR. Knowing something is literally over your shoulder is a lot easier than the translation in your head you have to do to connect a 10 degree head turn to the idea of how much you have to turn to line up with it. -

Feedback Thread F-14 Tomcat - Update 10th March 2023
RustBelt replied to IronMike's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
There’s deeper Fidelity vs Usability issues with Flight Sims. Especially when your main player base is using Spring Centered dead Joysticks on desks. At too high a fidelity of pitch response you’ll NEVER trim the plane. Ever. Between recentering as trim comes in, dead space at the center, discrete input resolution, and the poor ergonomics of desk top joysticks. Not to mention the subtle acceleration or deceleration cues you feel in a real plane to make tiny 10kt and/or 50 Foot adjustments, just can’t exist, and even in Level D sims can get kind of uncanny while turning. So sim’s need to fudge in some unrealistic dampening to make the sim “behave” more like reality, by reducing true Fidelity. You’ll only ever have true Fidelity in the actual plane or if Holodecks ever get invented. Everything else is a design compromise of Fidelity vs. Utility. -
It’s a problem people discover coming from a more modern Navy fighter to a 1950’s Air Force jet. Just like having to use the weapons release button to fire a sidewinder, The Air Force had different ideas about the best use of NWS in relation to weight and system robustness. Navy planes need to steer to move about the deck, so NWS was a higher design priority for a Carrier Bird.

I mean the Tomcat should spawn with the launch bar down, because without the nose kneeled it’s a pretty tall step onto the ladder or to reach stuff in the nose-gear bay.

Afterburner not coming on and radar inverted
RustBelt replied to crazyave's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
You may need to scooch your throttle setting a bit to get it out of the ambiguous gate position. -
No that would be the Super Carrier.
-
You’re probably better off that way.

Target position in HUD does not match target position in Tacview
RustBelt replied to Stickler's topic in Bugs and Problems
Tacview doesn’t know where the eye line is. It doesn’t correct for the fact that the pilots eye looking through the HUD is like 4-6 feet above the ADL centerline of the plane. And with the Tomcat the horizon reference is just an arbitrary setting the pilot sets just as a visual guide. So it’s also not lined up straight because the pilot kind of looks down through the hud to the horizon. tacview is looking out from the center of the plane straight along the longitudinal axis. Which for the tomcat is like right above the valley between the intakes.
