Target position in HUD does not match target position in Tacview
RustBelt replied to Stickler's topic in Bugs and Problems
You’re confusing the F-14’s adjustable horizon guide to the Tacview datum line. There’s paralax on the F-14’s hud to the horizon. Welcome to the pacman days of avionics. -
Feedback Thread F-14 Tomcat - Update 10th March 2023
RustBelt replied to IronMike's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
This is an important point. Because also onboard, there’s only so many airframes you have room for, so they get much more continuous use than Land Base operations where you have more reserve you can rotate out with to give the plane enough detail level attention. And you only have so much room for the techs to work and live so they’re also a limiting resource factor on the ship. You can’t have 3 shifts of non-military Contract specialists to swarm over a NAVY plane like some “other” services enjoy the luxury of. -
DCS: F-14A & B - Excessive shimmering in Cockpit
RustBelt replied to Schmidtfire's topic in Bugs and Problems
Couple folks on here seem to confuse conversational complaints for personal affronts that they feel are demands directly to them to solve. Or insults to their character because it relates to a brand on their “team” of consumption preferences. Especially odd that it’s other forum users not actual ED or Heatblur people. And also often pile-on 3rd parties to the thread. Go back, look at my first post on this thread. What do you think is the BEST response to it? What would produce the BEST outcome to reduce forum clutter and off topic tangent if that’s your goal? Ponder that. -

You may need to learn to let stuff go. Do you think attention would mean people would NOT double down and respond? What’s your plan here Senior Panza? -
reported earlier Ingame display brightness issue
RustBelt replied to marksman1942's topic in Multi-Display Bugs
I suspect it’s on a list of things to do when big thing gets done. Big thing probably being Vulkan. A case of not wanting to have to go in and change the work twice since big thing will mean redoing everything. But like many projects, Big thing is always juuuust on the horizon. Close enough to see it coming, but far away and one of a number of Big Projects like Multi Threading. in AvE terms, it’s in the shop and on the healing bench, but not close enough to guess when it will get started. -

I do walk into a liquor store and complain that half of one wall is garbage flavored Vodka candy booze. And how I can never find Pusser’s Gunpowder Proof Rum. Especially in an open forum liquor store where everyone is together talking about the use and applications of liquor. Analogies can be hard sometimes. I don’t mine Bitcoin so Nvidia doesn’t care what I have to say, And AMD couldn’t do anything innovative if they even wanted to, they just aren’t set up for that. Duopolies mean complaining gets everywhere. -

Not when it’s too busy filling Crypto Wallets it won’t Why? Big Video Card going to come shut me up? -

Except, what most people get is some not quite right. All the card and the driver has to do is take user feedback and adjust given all the facts it has at its disposal given It knows everything the OS knows about the system. If Nvidia spent half as much time on that, UX, than on Mediocre Real time ray tracing, and AI cores for Crypto mining, we could be somewhere. At $200 sure we’ll figure it out ourselves, $500 yea ok, $900….yea it’s kinda sad, $1500? That card better make my breakfast. Or it better just be able to 4x SSAA without a hiccup at 4k and 120FPS all day no hassle no hours of trial and error. Not melt its own power connectors and take up 3 slots to deliver a slightly better RTX 20X0 performance. And then act like it’s doing me a favor letting me pay for it. PC gaming consumers need to up their standards to meet the prices hardware makers think they can charge. This isn’t about Closed ecosystems in Mac or Console (which are just fixed spec x86 architecture now) it about the level of in the weeds DIY they still get away with for $1500. Expect more from your money. -

I mean, I’ve been on the video card train since CGA. For the price they’re asking now, “Just Get Gud” doesn’t cut it anymore. I’ve understood it with 3D addon cards, and been patient with it since 3D SVGA cards in the 90’s. Consumers need to start expecting more especially in 4 figure territory. It’s time we get to be lazy, not the Card manufacturers. -

I’m frankly tired of it. The card knows the system. Instead of faking AA with AI, the cards should be deploying AI min/maxing strategies to automatically find a given systems perfect balance point. For the price of two game consoles, the card really should be better able to optimize itself. -
The Halo is an unfortunate lighting DCS-ism from the 2.5 update. Apparently Astigmatism is rampant at ED so they think it should look like that. The alternative is turning the light intensity down so far you can’t see them from a 1/4 mile away Like the Supercarrier’s IFLOLS.

Is it sad that $1500 40x0 cards with 12 GB of VRAM; that Anti-Aliasing is still a thing that has to be fiddled with? Nvidia has become an AI hardware developer and AMD can only follow not innovate. -
Always been an issue. Some DCS weird to do with an object being both a vehicle with Hit points and a collision box, and a landable surface simultaneously. Making “ground” that moves has been a consistent challenge for DCS if you recall the Ice Rink carrier days.

Cockpit Glass Scratches Map - Can you adjust this in skinning?
RustBelt replied to Bosun's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
It’s not made in 4K. It can DISPlAY in 4K, but this is still a 1280x720 product. Or 13whatever one of the WXGA resolutions. Edit: 1920x1200! That’s the one the elegantly named WUXGA. Ask your doctor if Wuxga is right for you. but again, set the resolution then delete those folders. It only builds those assets one time so you’re probably tiling 1080 texture assets in 4k -
The Earlier pre 1:1 thrust to weight ratio supersonic jet fighters and the just at 1:1, is a whole complex bag of worms. You’re dealing with stubby supersonic wings with swept wing drag profiles. Prop Fighters made up for lower power with good meaty wings that could manage maneuvering with less drag at the cost of compressibility issues once you got above around 450kts. And 4th Gen fighters had advanced systems refined airfoils as well as excess power that allowed them to do things in maneuvering near a prop fighters max speed. (Tomcat money speed is like 350kts) Prop fighters were Cutlass, and 4th gen are Rapiers. But earlier jet fighters were stilettos both due to aerodynamics and fuel loads. You have to fly them knowing you have to leave yourself outs to make back up energy, or you need to hit and run. Think less 109 and more 190.

Did you delete your FXO and Metashader2 folders in savedgames/DCS when you went to 4K? -
Or gets fuzzier from the gloves each push.

Yes TIS gives you the picture, but DDD is primary for running the radar. Otherwise it wouldn’t need a RIO. Computers just weren’t there yet for fancy Hornet/Viper style set it and forget it TWS to STT by the pilot. Think of the TID as the bridge between the Pilot and RIO cockpit. RIO uses DDD to build the TID picture the pilot and RIO use to plan the attack. Then the RIO goes back to DDD to act on the team’s plan while the pilot flies it.

Roll out straight a bit to ensure the nose wheel is centered. Extend the nose wheel strut for takeoff. Hold the NWS button until around 60KTS to maintain directional stability until the tail is moving fast enough to take over the job. Less is more on takeoff with regard to rudder input. Also be dead lined up, and don’t forget crosswind correction with the ailerons.

Have you disconnected ground power? Transfer pump won’t activate while still on ground power. Once the right engine is stable you should disconnect ground power since it’s on the left side of the fuselage right at the left engine intake. It would be poor form to make the aircraft tech pull that after left engine start.
