  1. Very much depends of the server and how competitive the gameplay is. So for example DDCS modern server you have life points and when shot down or not returning the aircraft you lose LP which means that you will quickly run out if not a good pilot, thus not enable to fly the aircraft, thus the other side can win air dominance. It works well. I cringe when see people fox3 x 6 all within the space of seconds.
  2. I should also add that the meteorological guys are much better these days than 20 years ago, weather is generally known in advance for the time duration of training sorties. Also if conditions are too bad for recovery or to expedite the mission requirement the sortie will be cancelled.
  3. Tacan approach. Most large military airfield's have them installed and yes it requires a bit more thought on the pilot re distance and altitude but its bread and butter and gets them to visual on threshold. Also always option to divert field - you would be amazed that even 30nm away the conditions can be very different. You can even have fog at one airfield yet 10miles away it can be clear due to relief, position near water source etc.
  4. Guys just a little tip for those of us in VR. In Voice Attack i have entered "Prepare target 1". "Prepare target 2" etc and this then types on the markpoint tag T01, T02 etc - its saves me alot of time and also on Multiplayer mission planning its super convenient not having to reach for the keyboard and peak underneath the Rift S to start typing. Also i keybinded the left MFD buttons 12/13 from memory to "waypoint up", Waypoint down" again just means don't have to start using the mouse when flying competitively as i tend to need to be more Hotas in the harrier than other modules. Obviously buy Voice Attack if haven't already done so its a real game changer, don't need viacomm its easy to make your own profiles plus have found remember them better! Anyway just a little tip may help some who haven't thought about or know about voice attack,
  5. Cant remember seeing any pre lauch EA videos with tomcats launching in it , they have been promoting the hornet in it from memory so its not exactly misleading is it? On the delay - thank god - there is enough issues within 2.5.6 right now that must take priority over releasing yet more code into the OS with a potential for causing more issues. All the people griping clearly need to get a grip and leave their own realm of single player against AI. Nothing worse than chasing bad code out the door and see all too often people in these forums doing exactly this. It would be better to devout time to bug reporting not chasing products that are not even released yet.
  6. Interesting thread - can also confirm desync and horrendous lag issues since 2.5.6 on multiplayer.
  7. @bignewy just checking up on this bug - with the greatest of respect and as discussed on discord this does not need track files , screenshots or anything else. It is plain to see for anyone, a blind man on a galloping horse can see aircraft and ground units lit up at night like a Christmas tree. Suggest 2 minutes of one of your dev's team or yourself to set up a ME and go for a flight with some ground units and other aircraft - or even easier jump on a multiplayer server that flies at night. I'm trying to assist however asking for multiplayer track files that are in excess of 100mb isn't productive and not required. I'm highlighting an issue, a simple one to see which isn't complex to replicate and is not a 'it might happen, it might not situation. Granted not an issue for people that only ever play against AI. Thanks for your forthcoming efforts to resolve for the multiplayer community.
  8. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=263898 Already reported - always worth checking the bugs section first and reporting there.
  9. With the new night lighting there is a serious bug in that all aircraft and ground vehicles are easily visible at night. Aircraft that are fenced in with all lights off show as bright objects in the sky and viewable for large distances making it impossible to remain hidden (particular issue for helicopter opp's). Ground units show as white twinkling objects on the ground and are easily spotted which then suddenly disappears at 1 mile. Makes them completely vulnerable. Clearly this is not correct - i fly purely in VR but believe its an issues also on monitors. Can we confirm that the dev's are already aware. Before dev's ask for a trackfile, just take a flight at night and have a look its so obvious. This is a real issue for those of us that fly multiplayer competitive servers that have player controlled ground units.
  10. Yea doesn't sound like fun - no challenge no skill. Who wants to fly something that has such an advantage - oh i forgot people that like to fire out Aim54's..... No model is simple, its a non starter we shouldn't be even thinking about new modules need to sort out the mess that is the core code
  11. Guys here's an idea - stop asking for new modules - ask for them to work on the core and sort out the ton of legacy code that is creating havoc. I'm guessing these guys asking for new modules at the moment are Single player who dont want carrier operations or any type of ground war. Its a mess currently for those that are ignorant of the current picture. Any dev's need to be fixing what is 2.5.6
  12. Seriously is this even a thread - no offence made to the OP. Why do people keep asking for new modules ......Need to sort out the ones ED have first and more importantly than that sort out the many multiplayer issues, memory leaks and crashes. It is currently near enought unplayable, actually is if you want carrier ops. Its fair to say 2.5.6 is buggy as hell - should not even be thinking of introducing a supercarrier into the current mess to add to the existing problems. Any spare dev time for new modules should be on sorting out the core - and delivering the F18 and F16.
  13. Makes me wince people even on this post asking when are the new clouds and weather coming...... Clearly Single Player users only. Before new textures the priority should be getting the same clouds in the same place for all users in multiplayer. Basics first, bells and whistle's after. ED need to focus all resources on sorting out the mess that is Combined Arms and Multiplayer, and finishing the existing modules of F18 / F16 - then worry about adding more modules that will only cause further bugs and over stretch of what clearly is limited resources. As for a subscription model - this would meet massive resistance and given the feeling in some sectors of online play at the moment result in further loss of player numbers not more. As per charging for EA model - its a 2 way street, the community is currently the primary beta tester for the product, a free resource for ED.
  14. Whilst this may not be of comfort for you right now it really is like riding a bike or learning to ski to some extent - impossible to start with and then you never forget. Someone has already highlighted the key and that is trim, however as in real life set your flaps to the up position (not auto) as depending on airspeed they can deploy which means stable flight is impossible. The other secret is to get a line up to a known wing point and not really watch the basket coming towards you - i literally look at in the last few seconds but don't actually need to. On the Marine 135 i use the middle 9 for reference and the outside of the prop line. Check chucks guide this will help you. I don't use curves however some people find this easier - try and set curve on your y and x axis of 25 if your really struggling. Lastly don't get stressed, try and remain relaxed and don't force a bad tank position (or shoot down the tanker lol) . Good luck it will come. Practice Practice Practice.
  15. yep the side ones would normally be angled away from the frame on a more horizontal level than the 50 degree ish stow angle. But given the current issues add it to the list lol.
  16. Yea the whole Oculus Guardian issue is a nightmare, have to do it every day - have complained to Oculus - ffs nanny state and H&S no doubt is why they enforce it. Why they cannot just have a setup to disable it in oculus home is beyond me. Painful. Who needs Guardian sat down in a sim! Problem is getting through to their dev team is impossible it would seem
  17. Just to check you are looking at the wind indicator and or ensuring your not landing into a crosswind? Make sure the witch's hat is kept on the horizon also tends to stop this as well as not over correcting pilot induced yaw/roll.
  18. Guys whilst also wanting updates for the Hornet - 2.5.6 was such an issue with multiplayer that at present after the initial disappointment of seeing the lack of hornet development its really for most serious multiplayer guys that have pvp which includes CA/ground war its far more important that 2.5.6 and its associated memory leaks and game crashes are resolved. Stop and think - far better to have a stable platform then adding additional aspects that are going to cause issues. After a few test flights it seems better, early hours yet however. I would far rather nothing new comes out until 2.5.6 is running smooth as silk. Concentrating on the core code and game engine should be the absolute priority not whether a TGP has a hud indicator or not. Its nearly as bad as people complaining about fps in VR that are running on last generation hardware.
  19. No problem enjoy! If you get the opportunity i would recommend trying VR, there is no going back and at the moment price point to eye candy the Rift S with Oculus Tray Tool is tough to beat in terms of working out the box, eye tracking and smoothness and price, you get alot of headset visuals compared to the Vive Pro and its price point.
  20. Also cannot recommend enough running dcs on the m2 / SSD hard drives and ensuring 32GB of ram if running heavy multiplayer.
  21. Great CPU for DCS will happily overclock to 5ghz re the i7 9700k. Waste of money to get the i9 for DCS. As for GPU, it really is worth spending that extra £250 for a 2080 super or £200 for the standard 2080 if you want to play in VR. Friend of mine struggles with the 2070. It will make a big difference in playability and immersion. I really think the 2080 is the bottom line now for VR, especially as ED increase the eyecandy.
  22. + 1 re Shaw's book. Of key importance, learn the weakness and strength of the aircraft you want to fight in but also just as important the adversary you expect to fly and fight against. If your new choose one aircraft, master that before learning another module. The key to winning is thinking and pushing your adversary into his weaknesses whilst fighting in your strengths - which is the same for any combat. You should know your flight envelope and his, not second guessing what the numbers are for degrees per second of turn, climb performance etc, learn when to keep energy and when to lose it.
  23. Unless in an emergency and also location.
  24. Just a thought, think you would need to upgrade your GPU first if you want to play something more than a slide screen. As ED continue to improve the visual requirements, and vulkan aside, the requirements on the GPU and CPU are only going to increase. Also your CPU should be at or near 5Ghz.
  25. In all honesty from what i have seen a 1080ti is the minimum but ideally you will need the RTX2080 range if you want to maintain some eye candy and get the true VR experience. 32GB ram if your multiplayer. i9 is currently a waste with DCS, the i7 for the price point is much better re 9700k. Expensive yes - worth it? Absolutely if this is a main hobby. Would recommend put more money into the GPU and go with a Rift S, for DCS its trouble free and looks great for the price point (no difference to vive pro despite the specs that i have seen trying both and using the rift s)
