Sale dates - what's the deal (or not...)?
Hawkeye_UK replied to mike pavitt's topic in Payment and Activation
But yes totally unprofessional, you set a sale date in stone, you don't then change the goal posts once out there. Poor from ED given they are "trying" to engage with the community given the recent disasters. -
Sale dates - what's the deal (or not...)?
Hawkeye_UK replied to mike pavitt's topic in Payment and Activation
Actually asked on discord nine line and Big Newy about this earlier in the day, as i know of quite a few people that caught out given it was listed as the 19th of July on the 4th July newsletter, then on the 11th July, aka friday gone it was ending sunday night. There was a few people away for the weekend that missed the newsletter and got back to find the sale over. Another example of lost in translation perhaps, the dev team doing one thing and the rest of the company having to pick the pieces up re dealing with customers? -
Quigon respect your post especially regarding warbirds and agree damage model especially does need review in terms of pilot being mortally wounded during flight from gunshot wounds. Just meant we don't need the proverbial claret arterial spurts and limbs missing, or half a skull hanging open or burned alive that some would seek re gore.
-
Ridiculous thread and a waste of time given there are far higher priorities to get sorted in game that actually matter. Fixing CTD's oh and a working netcode for one. ED have realised this hence their post's about sorting 2500 bugs. If you want to see what gore looks like, join the forces. It's not something to wish, celebrate or glorify in a game.

Lol yea fine for just flying around, you won't be able to do much more than that however - wouldn't want to go PVP you'll get whacked. Time after time with this approach. I'd look for a new Rio that actually want's to improve their ability and capability. Its such an amazing effort Heatblur have done in the backseat - its worth the study and no excuse not to. Saying its no good in VR is a nonsense, i only fly VR and the tomcat is pretty amazing in both the front and back seat. It's just lazy not to learn and then expect hotstart's etc, might as well go and blow stuff up on War Thunder if your rio has that approach. You need to learn the functionality, without a decent human rio the F14 in DCS is at about 30% capability at best with Jester.
-
Easy solution - get the rio to read the manual and learn how to start - its not hard. If they can't even start the thing they are not going to be effective in the air re IFF, getting the clutter on and off, having the radar optimised, id rather have the clown that is Jester than take up a lame rio.

What i would suggest is try and find a server that only allow's fox 1/2's so its more balanced, aka later cold war server than the guns only 15/sabre style.

Day's of PvP flying high in the mirage is over - worst advice ever read. Anyone flying high is going to get a 5 second max warning before dying to a 54 or 120 from a respective F14 or F16, especially in an E2/E3 theatre. Far better to skulk around very low in hill's, avoiding E2/E3 on rwr, and try and get behind the threat. If you miss on the merge expect to face a 9x and an ejection.

The real question is when will we have clouds that are synced client side, something that actually matters in playing the game. Amazes me people that just constantly ask when are we getting pretty new clouds without asking on the fundamentals. Then lol the next will be my frames are really bad on my 1080 etc etc... Clearly pretty visuals are fine for pve and SP, but playing the game in any competitive mode that doesn't involve swatting easy AI flies then the sync client side is much more worthy of dev time.

Tend to find 2 camps with VR, the ones that like it generally are running the latest hardware, and yes its expensive. And yes that means Reverb or RIft S with a machine that can run them. Also very much depends on the user's eyesight itself. Those that have an OK experience or sub par tend to be running the last generation of graphics cards /CPU's. Ignoring ED's specs on what you would need, and to be able to have PD up high with the setting high, therefore to get clear images you need to be running the latest hardware and by this i mean Min 32GB (NOT 16gb) DDR4 Ram @ min 3mhz / CPU i7 (97000k) or above running at min at 4.9Ghz / RTX (yes not GTX) 2080ti and definitely not below a RTX 2080. With this VR is pretty amazing, i've messed around with all different hardware on test beds and this is the spec to get good eye candy. To lose the immersion factor is just not worth it and that includes an ability to run it on high end gaming monitor widescreen, 65inch 4k screen and a 120 inch 4k projector screen. Lastly, yes ED need to make many improvements on solving memory leaks, optimisation and using multi core etc etc etc.

Yea to be fair i have to say its my favourite module ED have released in a long time....actually a credit to them its brilliant and so much fun.

As you will note from my post i am purely "curious" Not chasing, not disappointing, not having a whine just trying to attain information. I know what buying early access, don't mistake this profile join date to the forums as a start date for DCS - i remember flanker, then 2.5, lock on and before that Falcon 4, Janes WW2 fighters, F15, F22 TAW - you get the point. Been playing sims for 30 years and well aware what EA is.
-
Anybody know when these are getting added or if they are on the roadmap as yet, just curious if any plans to add these - can't seem to spot anything on the forums either.

Extreme FPS loss in after playing a while
Hawkeye_UK replied to nukemgood's topic in Game Performance Bugs
This! Also notice huge drop and its something to do with the F10 map, tac commanders notice it also if you look at F10 ingame it can loose FPS also. Its weird almost like its running something in the background -
[CORRECT AS IS] Incorrect maximun speed of F16
Hawkeye_UK replied to JRM's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
speed isn't everything lol. So by your reckoning, the model is 0.06 mach off or 3% and this needs to be fixed NOW. And you know the mach speed is accurate how, Wiki (you have got to be joking me right)? What about temperature and wind's aloft lol. How about you ask the dev's nicely to actually role out system's that matter within the sim and mission capability, you know something that has some relevance. Or even better fix and improve netcode. That said, if you have read the forums you will note that they are spending time on bug squashing and sorting out the episode that has been 2.5.6, oh and obviously Hornet will take priority to finish as per their brief so i think your demands are in vain, one given the utter immediate irrelevance and secondly bigger problems to deal with. -
PS what we should be asking is not complete the map with more pretty places but complete the pathfinding on them so units actually move in a cohesive manner and without going stupid to put it mildly. We should be asking for PG map to be finished so that units do not get stuck on bridges or telegraph poles or even small bushes. We should be asking for units that have a hard outer shell that cannot drive inside each other. Lighting effects on the payware maps such as Nevada and Normandy. As a base unit we get alot for free re DCS. But what we shouldn't be asking is more free pretty places on the free map when we have issues with payware maps outstanding.

Is open source secure, is open source safe, just remember its not for everyone and the risk exposure this can bring. Also once you start open source you also create an environment that people can exploit game mechanics. Not Good.
-
PS Genuinely no offence meant - was just making the point lets get the aircraft systems working before cosmetics that do not affect the performance of the aircraft for tasking.
-
I knew it was a SP post, as i said, if engaged in flying the sim in complex environments, not against easy AI then as i said you won't be that bothered about the VR pilot but would be bothered about actual issues that prevent bombs on target, first pass, aka the point of a combat simulator. As i always say, get the basics right of the aircraft, then put the pretty bits on top. It's ridiculous to wish cosmetic aspects over the simulation systems of the aircraft, hence why i was saying if that is your thing maybe try something that looks pretty and focuses on looking good not being a combat simulator .

I'm not poor, and i'm not mc Scrooge, but ...
Hawkeye_UK replied to Csgo GE oh yeah's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
Just remember alot of people, especially Open Beta and MP use stand alone rather than messing around with Steam. I have Steam but would never consider running DCS through it, why bring in extra software to run in the background when not required, makes zero sense. -
OK so as a work around, as a long time ago i had the same issues re VR and trying to hunt the space key, use Voice Attack. I upgraded to the pay version (IMHO best "module" for DCS ever if in VR) but the free trail version you get 20 free commands and the ability to try it out. It is fantastic, don't bother with Viacomm if you do upgrade as super easy to make own commands and you learn them that way, i personally found that better. So going back to your post when it pops up in a training mission etc i just use to say "continue" and it would auto press the space bar function for me, super useful.

Guys if your genuinely saying that a VR pilot is more important than systems working correctly and bug fixes so you can actually fly the aircraft and utilise weapons then perhaps you have missed the point of this game. Digital "Combat" Simulator I'm guessing you guys just play SP or Pve MP but in competitive MP with PVP and human controlled ground vehicles, aka simulating combat in testing weather conditions and night time trust me the lack of a VR pilot is the last thing you even think about. Perhaps check out war thunder.

No, no, no..... Why do so many people think that a subscription model is a savour to the current problems. It's naive. The problems are communication, poor dev and build organisation and structure (using SVN) and a dev team that isn't diverse in location and currently have no internal competition. Having a monthly subscription, doesn't provide cashflow security either as it allows players to dip in and out as they please, aka when things go wrong. Imagine how many subscriptions would have been cancelled in the last 2 months since 2.5.6, or in the last few weeks. It also provide's less security for third party dev teams. Do you not think they have thought this through. Your $5-£10 a month subscription that you raised ranges for an annual cost of $60 to $120 dollars. At the lower end of the spectrum that's not even one module that a player would buy, ED release's quite a few modules per year, of which many players would spend more money. Need to think through idea's before posting bad ones plus its a non starter for large sectors of the community.
