I did not read all replys in this forum topic. Regarding F16 and vr. In my oppinion the HUD is more difficult to read than in other planes and here is a tip to make the text more clear. Try pushing your vr headset left and right while you wear it, do the text become more easy to read ?? If yes then you maybe have to adjust your IPD ( eye distance ) Try turning you head a little so you do not look 100% into the hud or digital display of the radio channel and then adjust the settings while you do so for best quality. Els you can in the settings make the cockpit larger by changing a feature that is named something with named "fixed ipd" ( or something like that ) That might also help a little bit. Also try to tighten your Vr headset so it is pushing harder against your face.. maybe even consider buying some new soft pads for the vr headset that are either thicker og thinner. But in general remember the F16 is in early development, lets hope the hud get more easy to read as times goes by or at least we our self can adjust how far away the hud text is via a slider. ( it would be ideal if its as easy to read as in the f18 ) Regarding the MFD's then i recommend to learn forward to read them, or use the vr zoom function/seat adjustment to move forward a bit in the cockpit. Alternative use the fast vr zoom function under ( game UI settings, in the drop down menu ) Oh and set the ingame brightness to 1,4 so game is a bit darker might help. ( i fly with a pimax 5k+ .. In the start i also had problems reading the text but after i did the above it became much better and more easy to read.. howver in some situations its still difficult example when the light/horizon is in a special angle/brightness

I find all of them pretty easy both jet/heli ect. But i could choose one jet and one heli Su-25 mi8 ( before the update in early 2019 i think ).

[WORKS] Does the Tacan work or is broken in the F18?
delevero replied to Crunchy's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Regarding tacan in general. Be aware that if there are large mountains near the airport, the tacan signal can be obstructed. ( or if you fly low ) Example last night in the F16 on persian map i was trying to track kasab airforce bace. I was about 60nm away from the airport flying from west to east at that point in 30.000ft height But i could not get a signal until i was like 8nm away and to the north west of the airport then it worked fine. ( ps i could see a tanker and other tacan more than 99nm away, but could not see kasab before i was within visual range. ). But yes the tacan in the F18 also work. -
Tip.. you dont have to lock a target to fire and kill the enemy. Just point the plane in the right direciton and fire.. The aim120c will after x seconds turn on its own radar an look for targets. And regarding the aim9 then its pretty short range and easy to defend against by staying away from the enemy if you have problems. If you have the aim9x then turn on the helmet system and then all you have to do is look at the target and it will lock and you can fire ( this lock do not warn the enemy you have a lock on him ) You might have to click the aim9x missile can change inbetween and the other mode one of them will auto lock anything you look at, while the other its your radar you are using.. Also be aware in the f16 that you are pressing the button where you can cycle dogfight mode

I think it is as it is due to gameplay reasons. I imagine it have something to do with visibility when "bullet" is flying and the ability to see this from a plane. But yes tracers do look like they ave a "long tail" in real life as well and if you pause this video you will also see a long tail after the bullet.

I found out what the problem was. 1). i changed the brightness of the game to 1,5 in settings pr default its 2.0 that is very bright for the pimax. 2). I notised that when i push my headset arround from side to side i could see more clear with one eye than the other = i turned down the IPD ( eye distance ) to minimum and then it became more clear what was on the screen and that is kind of funny since the IPD is now 63 but when i mesure my eye distance its 67mm hmmm 3). I also notised that the harder i strapped the headset to my face the better i could read the HUD. All in all the above helped ALLOT now i can read the text clear.. However its still more easy to read the HUD in the F18 so i hope the HUD in the f16 is moved a tiny bit closer to the pilot or made a tiny bit larger or something like that. I think that will make a good difference. Yes im aware of the move camera functions and center.. but thanks for info ;-)

Hello I have a pimax 5k+ and it is among the best vr headset. I can read the MFD's in the cockpit and buttons ect... ( its most difficult on persian map when flyving over land. Nervada is better but not what i will call easy to read it. ). however when i look out though the hud without zooming then i cant read the speed or heading since its a bit blurry. ( maybe it help when the contrast/brightness get implemented in the f16 ). This make it hard to fly online with other players when i cant match my speed or heading correctly when i cant read it. I was wondering/suggesting if you could make the hud more easy to read somehow.. Maybe make it larger, or move it closer to the pilot. ( maybe a setting to do this in a config file, or ingame. The only way i can read the speed and heading / height is to zoom in. In general we are not talking about a huge change, but it just need to be clear to read. Example in the f18 i have no problems reading the hud so i hope that somehow could be used for reference of size, distance. ( the hud in the f18 is example 25% larger that is how it feel ). I also tried playing with the size of our cockpit ( its a special feature under the vr settings where we can force xx size.. even when cockpit is very big at example 30 i still cant read it clearly. ( but i can in the f18 that is at the std size ). It just feel and look like the hud is to far away in the f16. ps.. I did tune pixel density to 1.3 cockpit to 2550x1440 res 1080 res cockpit and so on. So the resolution in the vr headset is pushed to the limit of what my 2700x ryzen cpu 32gb ddr4 ram and 2080rtx can handle. ( For inspiration an mod that could change the hud. ) https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3301897/

Also depending on what VR headset you have then be aware you might need to know the following. There is a VR zoom function in DCS i use it often. As LuSI_6 write, go to into the keyboard/joystick settings page. click the scroll down button and use the drop down menu to go all the way to the bottom and you should see "UR layer" In there you find the VR zoom button ( thing its the zoom at the bottom of that page ) Regarding zoom.. If you are using example pimax vr headset you might notise that when you zoom in your line of sight cross each other. If this happen then you have to turn on the function named " compatible with parallel projections" in pimax software or in some other software. I do this in Dcs and xplane since i have a pimax vr headset. tip.. in VR also try to hold in key 0 ( null ) on your numpad and press 1-9 keys.. now you can shift the possition arround and more easy look at some things.. but be aware it not easy. In general i agree its VERY difficult to look at the test buttons and also the buttons on the right side of your "ass". I admit i skip the test functions since its really annoying and difficult in vr. but i have started to memorize what buttons to press so i avoid sitting there breaking my neck.. Personaly a solution would be if we could just use the numpad 0 key and 1-9 buttons and we see a 2d popup in left corner of screen.. it would be a usefull solution/feature. We only use the test buttons during startup, but in general it would be really helpfull if we can get some kind of popup of everyting on the left side that is behind the trottle. its hard to see

There are no stupid questions ( almost ) Well next to the trottle there are a tiny dial saying ILS ( south of the radio ) If that is set to 0 then its off.. so turn up the "volume" a little bit ( example 5-10% or so ) and you should see that the ILS somewhere in the small digital display will turn on... AND also remember there is a button to the right of your ass that you need to turn.. ( and to use ils look a the small display inbetween your legs and press the tiny button and you should see the ils needles after a few clicks. And ofcourse tune setup your radio/tacan and course pro tip..: if your tacan is not working, then often people forget on the tacan page to set tacan to T/R or A/A since as default it just say REC.

Question about the F16 TGP..: I have practiced using the TGP for a few houres now... long story short i can use it and slew and look at x waypoint the first time i try ect and kill the target and i can also cycle though different waypoints 1-2-3 and tgp look at them... so things do work so to speak. The problem start when i have made the TGP soi with the white box around it and then press TMS down and then the TGP "reset" to default view in top of the hud. When this happen the function where i can slew the TGP automatic to a waypoint stop working and now the TGP just cycle inbetween waypoints out in the horrizon and no longer look at waypoint on the ground. ( it is like the TGP looses the ability to work together with the steerpoint system and dont know where to look anymore ) I was wondering if there is a trick to make it work again or if its a bug ?

small tip.. I notised the uncage button had become unasssigned after todays update... I had configure it again. So if people have problems, then check that your joystick button maybe need to be reconfigured in the game settings again.

Regarding the plane wanting to turn a tiny bit to the left I can confirm that is also my impression. AND After the latest update if you have two tanks on the wings and fly over 400knots then the Heads up display start to bump up and down all the time. That must be a mistake ( the F18 and other planes do not behave like that )
-
in multiplayer i landed and taxi to parking. while parked i turned on the HMCS helmet system and look arround while i try to push some of TMS up buttons long to see if it could make mark points or other features where avaliable. ( just testing stuff and exploring ) In the start it worked when i look left and right, but then all of a sudden it dissapear. I dont know if it turn off when parked after x time. I tired to turn it off and on again but i could not make it appear again. in flight i did not have any problems with the HMCS.

I did not have any issues refueling on any map.. i respawn behind the tanker and my player is a "client". However yesterday after refueling i desided to practice the dogfight radar and lock with 9x sidewinders and i fly a few km away and lock and unlock the tanker and cycle trough the aa radars and modes ect. At some point the tanker started turning and fly a bit away. After a while i desided to rejoin the tanker and refuel. This time I every time instantly had the "error" where it say refueling complete disconnect every time i connect. I dont know where the error are but if you guys like to test, then maybe try to do a full refueling and then fly a little bit away and come back and refuel one more time. ( maybe after tanker have reached a waypoint. If you get the "refueling complete" instant then we maybe know that is the problem and solution for this error. ( that the refuel plane do not "reset" once we have refueled 1 time. when flying the f16 ).

All in all i find the f16 block 50 easy to use and fly, and i am already really good flying with it. Air refueling and the few weapons avaliable work pretty good and im very happy we have a simple TGP then at least we can find the enemy on the ground and use our bombs for something. I think priority of development have to be the IFF and datalink system and would be nice to be able to change the code of the LGB bombs before takeoff so its not only the mission maker who can do it. ( example change tgp laser code, and it automatic change the bombs, and once you are airborn the code is locked.. OR a subpage in the bomb where you can do it.. its a game after all we dont have a crew standing by to setup bombs before takeoff so dont have to be 100% correct ) ;-) Air refueling work really well the boom operator is a pro. The light on the kc135 tanker might be a little better if the lights on the belly of the tanker either were a bit wider/larger, or a tiny bit further back so we better can read them.. I can see them, but its a little hard. Especially the distance indicator forward/back on right side is the most difficult so see. But i am Not that impressed by VR. - its impossible to read or use the instruments pretty much 90 degree left or right from my seated possition and backwards even though i zoom in its hard to read the text near the small buttons on left side all the way back that is used when you turn on the battery and run different test during startup. I cant read the instruments at all even though i try really hard and sit in aquad possitions with mouse over. The cockpit also seem very dark and even in daylight i have to turn on the cockpit light. But lucky once the plane is started i dont have to look in that direction again. And technical speaking i can skip the tests and dont bother breaking my neck trying to leach the tiny buttons. :) currently i hold in the numpad 0 and 1-9 to look from other angles when i have to press the buttons this work sometimes okay. Its in no way ideal or easy but its a solution. I have to lower the seat a tiny bit by the way for best view in the heads up display. ;-) ( pimax 5k+ and yes it setup correctly and i have no issues in example the f18 where i can read all text except the most tiny text on the mfd's without zooming or leaning forward to read it. ). - it need to be VR optimized the f16 it run at lower fps than the f18 ( i will try and disable shadows and so on ). And ofcourse i know its in early access so lets see how it goes ;-) But all in all happy to see the viper :-)

I only use the joystick 1). You have to search for the "pinky switch" this will zoom fast in/out when you press the button. Find it in the menu, and look what keyboard command to press on keyboard. 2). search for "gun" and you see two options. 1st detend gun trigger 2nd detend gun trigger In the settings you can to the left of the above read the keyboard command, and I am pretty sure its 1nd detend gun trigger and its keybaord SPACE button. ( its on the buttons try ;-) )

Wishlist: fix the default pilot position like the DCS F-16 Viper
delevero replied to OttoPus's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Tip regarding seat possition in VR. Hold down Right Shift and Right ctrl and use the 1-9 numeric keyboard to move your possition.. This work quite good, BUT if you recenter the view during flight you end up back in the old possition. ( it would be nice if the above adjustment became the new default vr view and the game remember your last known possition or at least do so during an entire flight so you can reset the vr view back to the one you manualy selected ). -
Refueling do work when i try. I have 0 problems refueling with the viper, and the light work perfectly, even in VR. I see both the light indicator for forward/back in the right side And the indicator for up/down. ( its the most easy to see on left side ) I setup a mission where i start behind a kc135 tanker and i call it on the radio a few times before i connect. then i connect.. if you are not on the right frq and have spoken to the tanker first he will not turn on the light i asume. Regarding time to refuel, then i had to stay there for more than 2 minutes to refuel before it say refuel complete. However i did not notise if the fuel tank indicators was moving, i will try that next time. ( maybe it refuel in 1 sec, but you still have to wait for example 2 minute for the tanker to say you are full ). Even the boom operator work pretty good and fast but only when you are in the right possition. tip for refueling. Set your plane to cat III that will make your controls 40% slower = its more easy to make small corrections and fly steady near the tanker ;-) ps. I think you typed wrong.. A kc130 is a hercules tanker with hoses it have no boom. You must have ment the kc135 ;-)

use in mission payload and fuel editor In Mission Laser Codes Edit
delevero replied to bonesvf103's topic in Wish List
For gameplay reasons i think the best solution will be the pilot at least can manual set the laser codes when they start their plane ( before takeoff ) Example a popup message before you start the plane, select laser code. Reason are we dont have the preplanning like real pilots do, or our own dedicated ground grew who configure bombs before start. We only have the mission editor and lets face it on large servers it wont be that smart everybody have the same code especially if they attack more than one target in the same area at same time. It would be better with a popup code select screen or a "random" laser code generated for every plane when it spawn and the pilot can read this in the plane. OR the laser code of the TGP is automatic given to all of your loaded bombs.. lets face it either you laser for your self, or for someone els so that might be a usefull solution. I know its not 100% realistic, but its not good that its only the mission designer who can change the bomb codes, especially on complex missions, lets face it they forget. -
Cant hit Full AB with the Warthog throttle
delevero replied to Strikeeagle345's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
i dont own the joystick mentioned. But i just wanted to say that I also experienced some wird stuff with the trottle due to the pre configured joystick setup. example my trottle and a slider of my joystick was bound together and strange things happen. So try to check if you have a slider or "wheel" that need to be unbound in the settings so the trottle dont conflict with anything. Also in settings there are a feature where you can start the plane with the AB detend on or off = if its on you cant go into afterburner mode until you deactivate it via. a button on your joystick/keyboard. its a longshot, but try and have a look. :smilewink: -
I read the comments above and know the reason why they dont load 6 maverics on the f16 due to the missile in some cases can damage the plane. I came up with an idea. what if the maveric instead of instant flying forward when launched, instead would freefall for 20m before it fires its engine. Then the missile is far away and cant damage the plane = the f16 can carry more playload. as said its an idea, but what od you guys think could it be a solution, and can the f16 handle the extra weight ?
-
Well it will be able to do many things. example when you click your radar, then you can automatic slew the TGP to look at the radar target so you so to speak easy can find it and identify it. And just like in the A10 you will also be able to make the TGP look at waypoints and SPI/markpoint i asume. And regarding A/A i imagine there is some automatic search function But i know that you can use it when you have locked a target with your AA radar and then automatic slew the TGP to look at the Air target so you can visual identify the plane you locked within xx distance.

The best and "only" way to avoid VR sickness is to make sure you have enough FPS. meaning you need a minimum of 45 on each eye = 90fps in total. The more fps the better. If you have to low fps this will often result in sickness. Some vr headsets are worse than others. Example Ocolus rift its very important with high enough fps to avoid vr sickness, while Pimax 4k and 5k you can play dcs with 30 fps without having a single issue and it show vr perfect anyway. However the lower the fps, the slower the VR zoom. Just saying the vr headset used is of big importance in vr sickness. And in my experience VR zoom is really only usefull for reading things in the cockpit or spotting things on the ground.. In the air i think the distance that other planes are visible are like 8nm-10nm so people who pay via an ordinary monitor have a clear advantage i think. ( i use the ingame dcs fps counter )

tip for people who find it difficult to refuel. Fly up near the tanker and match the speed and height. Turn on the autopilot Altitude hold. When the autopilot is on it become much more easy since your stick become much less sensitive/responsive. note..: if you push to hard on your joystick while autopilot is on it will turn off. Regarding speed and tanking, then you maybe have to sit and make small adjustmen forward and back on your trottle if you trottle is not precise. tip..: when you train refueling, then do it behind a large plane such as the c130 hercules or the kc135 ( there are two versions one with a boom and one with the connector the hornet uses ). Els regarding learning to refuel, then practice 15 minutes every day, and after 1 week i think you can do it your self every time ;-) And you can do it with any joystick, its a matter of practice... personaly my old joystick was unprecise and i air refuel better than people with super expensive ones.. a matter of practice.
