I have both the F14 and F16. You know that Jeremy Clarkson meme with the two cars "This is brilliant. But I like this". That's what it's like for me, the F16 is brilliant in how it flies, how agile it is and the weaponry (coming soon...) but I just like the F14, even with Jester going on constantly about friendly SAM launches 80 miles away. I just like how the noises the airframe makes and how much of a challenge it is to fly and get the best out of it, it's very easy to fall out of the sky if you fly it too hard. The JF17 is superb module if you want something that can do a bit of everything though.

I've been playing with these designating a steer point as CCRP using coordinates from the F10 map and rippling off 10 of these, the destruction they can do is incredible.

Start off in a PvE server, going straight into something like PvP BlueFlag will be very frustrating, at least it was for me, the learning curve was steep and the skill of the other human pilots much stronger than me so I was getting killed too easily. Learn how to work in a team with other human pilots in a PvE server then transfer those skills to a PvP environment. As others have mentioned being communicative is very important, also if the server has a GCI listen to his instructions and call outs, ask the team what they need to complete the objective. If you're a Hornet driver you've got a lot of tools in your toolbox maybe they need SEAD or perhaps you're in a Tomcat and they need SEAD in which case you won't be much use but you can patrol the area etc. I never play in SP anymore, once you get comfortable with MP it's a totally different experience.

[LATER IN EARLY ACCESS] Air to Ground missiles
JamesRothwell replied to Dannyvandelft's topic in Wish List
Load up with 10 CBU97 and embark on a suicide mission. -
Ah understood. Thank you for the info.

I thought that it went active and just went for the first thing it sees, I've accidentally killed a few friendlies because I fired and had to turn cold defensively, thinking the missile was dead and then it ended up hitting a friendly even though I had locked onto to enemy initially.

I'd actually want Jester to have subtitles, having him talking over SRS on a busy server like BlueFlag is super annoying, I know I can turn his volume down but some of his callouts are super useful so I'd prefer to be able to listen to SRS and have Jester in subtitles. Of course ideally he wouldn't talk while someone is transmitting on SRS, unless it was a missile coming at us.

Is this true of CCRP also?

Hopefully Stennis will be back from the workshop soon enough, the Tomcat doesn't like being on dry land.

Regular news/updates from ED would be nice
JamesRothwell replied to Elefant1301's topic in DCS: Supercarrier
I'm sure we'll get some videos from Wags closer to release showing us how it looks and how it works. But yes a couple more little teasers prior to release would be appreciated. -
Aircraft before the 1993 tech explosion for DCS

I was just happy at the lack of "giv us 22 Raptar" posts. -
F111-Aardvark ~ Why you LOVE IT & why we need it

I'd buy this module for sure, especially if it was made by Heatblur to F14 standards. -
Aircraft before the 1993 tech explosion for DCS

This is such an interesting thread and great discussion, makes me really happy for the future of DCS. I hope it goes the way that would appease the majority of the posters here. -
Zombie as a DCS trailer soundtrack....really?
JamesRothwell replied to Boosterdog's topic in Chit-Chat
If you mute the trailer and play Hall & Oates 'You Make My Dreams' whilst watching it actually syncs up pretty well. This might make you feel better. -
DCS eats up 17-22GB of RAM for me. I imagine there must be some settings you can increase to get better visuals.

Aircraft before the 1993 tech explosion for DCS

If it wasn't for the targeting pods I'd never find anything on the ground. I'd love if the dynamic campaign (whenever that may be) would add some kind of communication with ground units. That you could get info from pinned down ground unit telling you that there is enemy tank/soldier/etc in X position or 2 miles South of our position or something. If I could nail spotting units on the ground I'd love an old analogue airplane without pods and sensors. As for air to air, I find Fox3 engagements pretty boring although yes it's realistic for how it is today, as someone mentioned already earlier aircraft with low range Fox1 with a low kill probability that inevitably misses and forces a guns or rear aspect Fox2 kill is always much more exciting. I find A2A in the F16 with 120C too easy, even against quite a formidable opponent AI or human, if you can get a 120C off the rail within a sensible range the probability of kill is so high that it's almost guaranteed, where as he older 9M on the Tomcat is much easier to defeat and will usually prolong the engagement. Sorry for long post, not even sure of my point. I enjoy DCS a lot though! -
When will the Petercopter be added to DCS WORLD.

TrackIR ProClip & Sennheiser GSP 670
JamesRothwell replied to JamesRothwell's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Yes, it does indeed fit. Takes a bit of fiddling to position the trackir clip in order for it to see the receiver properly but it does work. The GSP-670 are not that amazing though. I was using a HyperX Cloud II headset, I'd say in terms of volume they're the same, the audio quality is marginally superior on the GSP-670, it is good at outside noise isolation though. -
Looking for a Wingman/Teacher/Fellow Flyer
JamesRothwell replied to boseimmpmsn.com's topic in Squadron Recruiting
Welcome, find a server you like and you'll soon start to find regulars who will always fly with you. Make sure you're on SRS for comms if possible too. -
I like these weapons, coming in fast and low, ripple of a few of these with 150/200ft spacing to decimate everything even if you didn't post designate target with total accuracy. Obviously leaves you very exposed for the chap with the manpad though!

RAM 2x16GB vs 8x8GB.. any suggestions?
JamesRothwell replied to sirrah's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
On the PG Blueflag server I get up to around 20-22Gb of RAM usage. 2 sticks is slightly better than four sticks. If you've got an AMD processor go for the higher clock rates, if you've got an Intel processor target 3200mhz and the lowest and tightest timings you can get. I paired my 8700k with a TridentZ 3200mhz CL14 32gb kit and it has performed very well. -
I'm pretty happy with the current EA state and the development speed. It flies nicely (not sure if it's 100% accurate or not, I'm not a pilot) it looks good, it sounds good. Having a lot of fun flying it around just generally aviating. A2A it's great, I love the HMCS and the TWS system, radar is easy to control and datalink is brilliant. A2G yes I am looking forward to it having Mavericks and HARMs but for now I'm very entertained using cluster bombs and rocket pods (once I've called in a Hornet to carry out a SEAD mission on my target area!). I'm certain there is a bug with the brakes, but I know ED will sort it at some point. I'm looking forward to learning how to use more features once they're released. Oh, some liveries please so we can tell who is who a little easier online.

Not exactly scientific but I landed side by side with a Tomcat at Senaki (F16 was 1500lbs fuel and no weapons, not sure of the Tomcat), and the F14 was able to slow down and stop a considerable distance sooner than me. That doesn't seem right to me? I feel like my anti-skid isn't working and I am just locking up the wheels.
