South Atlantic Terrain Terrain Look and Feel
Minsky replied to Raz_Specter's topic in South Atlantic
No offence, but there are places that switched from the satellite imagery to generic textures a few patches ago (around certain airports). They are now the worst-looking parts of this map. Satellite imagery can never be perfect, and will always require a lot of tedious work to correct. But it is what makes the ground "pop". Otherwise it would be Caucasus 2.0. So, unless you see some insurmountable technical obstacles in going forward with the phototerrain ("it does have anomalies" is too vague), my vote is for keeping it as is. -
If I'm not mistaken, "AT Tanf" is how you pronounce "al-Tanf" in Arabic. This is also the Russian (Ugra's native language) transliteration of the name. Both variants are used by Western media, although "al-Tanf" is more widespread and "look" more natural.

Pretty much no single player missions anywhere for this map?
Minsky replied to imacken's topic in South Atlantic
Indeed. People turn Marianas into Korea and Vietnam (even for payware campaigns!), and bomb "Iraq" using the PG map since the dawn of time I don't see why South Atlantic cannot act as some generic Scandinavian country, warming the seat for Kola. The Strait of Magellan also opens up a few interesting capabilities. I once made a mission where an US carrier group was trapped in there mid-crossing. -

Asking map makers to create and support missions for every current and future aircraft would also be fundamentally wrong. The ever coming Dynamic Campaign should help with the lack of content, at least to some extent. Allowing slots not only for a particular airframe, but for anything that fits specific roles ("cold war", "bomber", "WWII", "interceptor" etc.) would also be helpful. So the map makers could add a simple bombing run mission to their map, and that mission would then automatically appear for any current and future module capable of the task. Both features have nothing to do with Razbam or any other map maker though. The ball is on ED's side. -

Works just fine for me. Can anyone else confirm this? -

By this logic Ugra should also add VORs and NDBs for compatibility with modern jets

Can we please remove the civilian ICAO codes from the following military airfields (for the reason that ICAO didn't exist until after the WWII): - Manston EGMH - Abbeville Drucat LFOI - Merville Calonne LFQT - Saint-Omer Wizernes LFQN
-
EDIT: Consolidated everything in the first post.

I'm not very familiar with the Mirage, but here's the synthetic runway working in a mission that doesn't have any waypoints: Correct. The true headings are listed separately at the very end (pages 27-31).
-
Charts don't give you true headings: only magnetic that may become invalid over time. Our Caucasus charts are valid for 2010 (give or take a year). And it's highly unlikely that ED will ever update them to anything closer to the present day. If you don't want to calculate true headings using the magvar provided in the charts, or have the F10 map disabled in your mission, consider using these kneeboards that have the true headings for every aerodrome in DCS. As for the coordinates, I checked a few from the included kneeboards, and they seem correct. Not that you need any coordinates (let alone precise) for an ILS approach, but make sure your F10 map shows them in the correct format.

Thanks for making The Channel map useless, I guess? Should we expect the five remaining airfields in future Normandy updates?

F-15E - Caucasus - Aerial Refueling.miz SE_AAR_eng.trk

Not trying to promote my work or discourage you, but this might save you some time: I already made the AAFB plates last year. Thanks for your charts, and keep up the good work!
