Not sure DCS has this available - but most modern jets IRL allow you to work in whatever coordinate system you want usually with a push button on the UFC. You can have DDMM.MM or DDMMSS or MGRS or UTM, etc.

Hi All, I have a Reverb and originally ran DCS completely through Steam. I've since switch to DCS standalone for various reasons, which is working well. Obviously, to get WMR working, that still needs to go through Steam VR. My question is, are all the Steam VR settings such as motion reprojection, motion smoothing, resolution and such in Steam VR settings still controlling the headset since DCS lives outside Steam now? Or do I still need to adjust the VR settings through Steam itself? Related Question: Do I still need to manually comment out Motion Reprojection in the Default settings file like before? Or has this moved to the Steam Settings GUI? TIA.

I sort of disagree with this. While in game - Waypoints should only be added, removed or changed through the A/C interface - such as the UFC in a Hornet or Viper or A-10. Because that is how it is done IRL. There is no mission planning tool available to the pilot once you get airborne. I do think the ME mission WP editor could be improved to make it less clunky and more user friendly for building the mission that will then get downloaded to the jet. But once you've left the Sq mission planning room and are strapped into your jet, then typing new points or changing existing ones into the UFC is your only realistic option.

Dear ED Devs - It would be really nice to have a unit of measure toggle for things like distance, wind speed, Altimeter settings, wind direction the correct way, etc - where you could toggle between imperial and metric units. Or between Western ICAO and non-western aviation standards. The weather briefings especially drive me crazy when the wind speeds are in m/s, altimeter settings in QFE, etc. The user should be able to fully customize all of those units to suit what they want to see and how information is presented to them.

An even easier way is to just unplug the VR cables from your computer (The USB cable mainly) and then reboot and start DCS. It will open without VR if it can't find your headset. I do this all the time when I want to do mission editor stuff and I don't want to bother with VR for the mission creation stuff. Then when I want to fly, I just power down, plug the headset back in and reboot and it's back to normal VR use. Easy Peasy, lemon squeezy.

Thanks, that's exactly what happened then.

So how does the OB update thing work with MP servers? I had just allowed an update to install the night before I wanted to try out some MP servers for the first time. A buddy that did not update OB could see a bunch of servers but I couldn't get into the ones he sent me the IP address for. I assume this is because of the OB version I had and the servers hadn't also updated yet, correct? I did see a few servers in the list, like the Hoggit training server and a few others. But my friend was seeing a big list of servers on his side. So assuming that was the cause of my issue...... what is the normal protocol for updating OB versions? Do servers put out messages or posts somewhere to let you know which version of DCS they are running? Sorry for the noob question.... I'm still new to this MP stuff. TIA.

Sweet, thank you. Now the trick is finding the time to do this. IRL flying is getting in the way....

Thanks Ethan. I'll give SRS a try. It seems the most useful and easiest to setup. I currently use VoiceAttack and it picks up the audio from the Mic in my earbuds just fine. So am assuming it would work with other live players as well. If I understand you correctly - If I and the other human players are all tuned to the same frequency in game, we should be able to then talk to each other via SRS correct? But if one is off freq, then no go. If so I like it, as it's more like a radio rather than just an intercom. I assume you still need to Push to talk and it's not just Open hot mic with the other players? One last question.... Is there any conflict that you know of between VA and SRS? I guess as long as I'm not using VA specific voice command, it will ignore my other chatting on the radio with the live players. Thanks again.

Hi All, I'm going to try some limited MP for the first time. Ideally I'd like to start on a small server or even a private server and fly with an individual or small group at first to dip my toes into the water. Not interested in the large scale public servers (yet). Caveat: I have never played an online game in my life (really) despite being an avid Flight simmer and IRL mil pilot. So what is the best setup to be able to connect and play with others? Both in terms of SW and HW? I'm thinking some system to be able to talk to the others while flying is first and foremost. So how do I go about that? Again, don't assume I know anything at all, which is absolutely true. I've heard of SRS and viacom and such, but have no clue what they do or what I need to make them work. I fly in VR (HP Reverb) only and have a mic on my earbuds that are plugged into the headset. So I assume I can use that to talk to wingmen and such. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Asking price for an excellent used VIVE PRO full kit
Notso replied to Notso's topic in Virtual Reality
Cool thank you. That's very helpful. What does the Gear VR lens do? -
I use both VA and a trackball as well. I also have 3x TM MFD Cougars arranged in front of me in the F-18 config (and later will work perfect for the F-15E). The ability to reach out and touch the MFD buttons in the correct place is huge for the immersion. VA has made some things SOOO much more intuitive. However, I still prefer to use the mouse for any switches in the cockpit that I don't have bound to the HOTAS. It seems more realistic to me than speaking a switch command. I tend to reserve VA to things that are not normal switches. Such as calling precontact with the tanker. Ot telling a wingman to attack a target or cover me or asking for Bogey dope. YMMV.

What is a fair asking price for a like NIB barely used Vive Pro with 2x base stations, 2x HC and headset plus the base station stands? I've seen some used ones on Amazon for $950 and one on Craigslist for ~$800. Asking for a friend. TIA.

Works for me!

Let me add one thing too..... western AF mindset is that we never fight alone. So it would be rare to unheard of for a single bandit to engage a two ship. Western AF's train to fight as a pair against X number of bandits. In the early stages it's 2v1 to teach basic skills and then add more as you get better. But we would only ever train as a singleton in the event our wingman got toasted, and then it's a purely defensive mindset as in how to survive and GTFO of Dodge and get home. So outside of training, the single fighter mindset is: "How do I survive against this two ship long enough to extend and run?" But it's certainly a fun exercise in DCS to do.

The USAF Weapons School/USN Top Gun answer is, as always: "It depends". There is an never will be a set formula for how to do this. It will depend on your energy state vs the 2x bandits. Are they more maneuverable than you? What is the merge geometry - have they bracketed you or are you defensive with both behind you or are you offense behind both of them? Way too many variables. Let's take one offensive example and then maybe it will make sense from there. Let's say a 2 ship of Mig-29s are on your nose line abreast and you happened to sneak up on them from behind. This is a common training set up as Defensive ACM for the two ship and the single aircraft is the bandit training aid. Whoever gets the tally in the 2-ship will call a "Break Right or Left" depending on who the bandit is pointed at. If the Bandit is lined up behind the left hand fighter, then a "Break Left" call would allow the unengaged fighter on the right to immediately engage the bandit (you) as long as you continue turning with the fighter on the left. If the wingman on the right does his/her job - the fight should be over in seconds. So how do you as the single bandit survive? You would see the flight break left but know the guy to your right is going to kill you, so instead of following the left hand fighter in a turning fight, you immediately switch to the guy on the right and take him high aspect and maybe get lucky with a snap shot in the face. If not, then at least you can stay neutral and decide to extend out and run as Klar said or continue fighting. At least the guy on the left who broke away is not an immediate threat, but he soon will be as long as he has Tally and Visual. So one of the common ways I've seen really good bandits fight a two ship is to do constant switches back and forth. Keep getting one jet to react to you and then point your nose at the other until they react and so on. It will work for a while, but if the pair knows what they're doing, it's only a matter of time before they can zap you if you stick around.

Is Vulkan something ED would have to adopt to code the game to? Or is it some kind of add on that individuals can choose to use or not. If the former and it brings significant performance enhancements in VR, I'm not sure why ED has not already gone down the Vulkan road. I will go read the other thread to catch up on what Vulkan is and does, so I apologize in advance if my question is stupid.

I had this too when having the tanker locked up. I undesignated with NWS and the TD box stayed there flashing. I finally had to go standby on the radar to get it to drop the lock.

Interesting. I was trying out SC for the first time yesterday. I made the inbound call and see you at 10 call. But never made any ball calls. Totally forgot about that:doh:. However, I did occasionally get some LSO comm on some passes like: "Power! Come right for line up, you're a little low"...... But not on every pass. I assume that the LSO talks only by exception if you're off parameters and not correcting, right?

Right basket on KC-135MPRS tanker - Does it work?
Notso replied to Stearmandriver's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Yep, I sent my wingman to the tanker and he beat me to the left basket. So I had to go over to the right side. If you are already on the left, the wingman will go to the right. I found that tanking on the right side was soooo much harder for some reason. Probably 100% mental on me since I had never done it before. -
That's interesting. My experience has been completely the opposite of yours. But I think it's just a personal perception thing. Everyone sees things like that differently. I've flown in lots of big $$ sims from the FSI and other airline sims to full 360 domed simulators for fighters. In all of them to some degree - I felt like the altitude & speed sensation has been realistic. Especially close to the ground such as on an approach or flying a low level. Yes, I agree that the large aircraft cockpit sims like FSI have far less of an altitude sensation because you're looking out of small windows. But even IRL at 30K cruising over terrain, there is not much of a sensation of altitude either IMHO in the real large jets. Stuff moves by very slowly. VR, in my humble opinion, gets as close to those 360 deg FOV domed fighter simulators as you can get without paying $30M.

OK, fair enough. So for something like the Mudhen or the F-18D, you're saying that most people would be fine not having any AI for the WSO and just either fly with a Human WSO or just fly single seat and run everything themselves? I'm just trying to gauge where people's hearts and minds are on these modules should they ever come to pass.

FIFY. Agree with all the rest. :music_whistling:
