  1. 100% concur. I'm going to wait this out and see what else comes up on the horizon. I'm very happy with my 2080ti so far. If for some reason the G2 craps all over it and the GPU becomes the bottleneck, I'll reassess at that point.
  2. I've actually found the exact opposite to be true. It's when I'm moving my head around quickly i.e. during BFM or clearing for missiles - that it loses the 6DOF the most often. Also when I'm looking down into the cockpit to find a switch in the more aft locations on the side panels does it also seem to go haywire. I must be losing light when looking straight down or something.
  3. Yeah, I noticed this too that over time, the reverb seems to be losing 6DOF much more frequently with the same lighting. Early on it rarely happened. Now it's happening a lot. I find that I can often get it to reset back to 6DOF by looking straight up at the ceiling. I find this happens less at night than during the day. I think at night, the lighting in my room is pretty static. But during the day as the sun moves - the brighter light seems to affect it more. I've found that pulling the shades down and relying more on the interior light seems to help. But not solve it completely. I'm hoping the G2 will solve this since it has more tracking cameras.
  4. I know. When I got the email - I felt the same thing when I saw the subject line. I thought this was going to be my lucky day!
  5. I got this Update email from Connection today:
  6. My order # is 8 digits as well from the pre-order confirmation email and that number works fine in the order tracking link posted previously. Just copy that number from the email and select "Order Number" under the tracking options pulldown. Mine is still showing as backordered. Does anyone know roughly when they will be shipping in the US?
  7. I don't even have a start button. My car is always ON and ready. :music_whistling:
  8. Always auto start or ramp hot start. I've spent enough time doing checklists for real and this is the most boring part of any flight, real or simulated. So have no desire to replicate that boredom some more. If I could have had the Crew Chief start the jet and have it warmed up, with the cockpit A/C on icy on a hot day before I arrived and I could just jump in and go - I would have kissed his/her feet. There's absolutely nothing wrong with those folks who want to go through the entire process. More power to you. But it's just not my thang anymore.
  9. Best advice is to stop worrying about the basket or boom and just fly formation on another aircraft for a while. Makes no real difference what other aircraft or in what formation but just get close and work on staying in a single relative position. Formation flying skill is the key to successful AAR. If you can't fly formation first, you will struggle to AAR, because in reality, that's all AAR is. So a suggestion is to place an AI aircraft of the same type as you in front of you at 15,000 feet or so and about 300kts Indicated or around .75 mach. Have it fly in a straight line for about 200 miles. Or as far as you want. Set yourself to spawn just behind it at about 1/2 to 1nm on the same heading, alt and airspeed. Start the sim and then when ready slowly move forward to rejoin to one wing or the other. Left side is the standard but it doesn't matter. Work on controlling closure where you can judge distance and just inch forward a little at a time until you are very slightly low and just aft of his wing about in line with the rear horizontal stab. See attached pic for an example of the Hornet. Start a bit wide and then work your way in until you can comfortably hold the position about 4-5 feet from the other aircraft wingtip. Work on forward and aft position and try to maintain the same relative position. If you get tired, slide out until you're not going to crash and relax a bit and then slide back in and try again. If you get good at this, then try some formation in a turn. The easiest way to do this is to spawn with an AI wingman and then once going, use the radio command "orbit here" or "maintain position" (I can't remember the exact command) and the wingman will fly a gentle 360 deg orbit. At that point you can rejoin on your wingman and work on the above but while in a turn. Once you can do all that, then put a tanker out there and have it go in a long straight line for a while. Rejoin on the wing (again usually left) and get warmed us there and then slide down into the pre-contact position and just stay there for a few moments before trying to get into the contact position. Once you can hang in pre-contact for a couple of minutes, then inch slowly forward to get into the correct formation. I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH..... you are NOT flying formation with the basket or the boom. You're flying formation with the tanker. Don't even look at the basket or the boom other than to give it a glance to see how you're lined up. Quick glance and then your eyes should focus on the tanker itself. You should not be looking at your altitude or airspeed or anything other than the tanker and attaining and maintaining that formation position. I harp on formation skill first for a reason. New pilots fly for a year or more learning and practicing basic formation flying before they are allowed anywhere near a tanker. AAR is hard. But it's impossible until you learn to fly formation first and it will just frustrate you in DCS if you don't learn the basics first. Start a little far away and gradually move in closer in those exercises above. Once you master both formation and AAR, you will have a very satisfied feeling of accomplishment. I've been doing it for real for 20 years and I find I still have to practice in DCS or I get very rusty. Oh yeah, one last thing..... get VR if you don't already have it. Night and day difference in depth perception and natural feel for both form and AAR.
  10. True, but I just bought it a < a year ago and doing it again would hurt.
  11. One addition question as I didn't see this screenshot in your OP.... Do you suggest my advanced Super Sample Filtering be ON or OFF and what is ideal for "Overlay Render Quality". Thanks again!
  12. Great info on the settings. Thank you. I'm running a 2080ti, so am going to reset back to these and tweak some more. My current setting seem quite good with the exception that when I look 90 deg off either wing line and then roll the jet - there is an initial jitter/slight blur on ground & objects I'm looking at. Any idea what setting(s) might address that. And a follow-on question: What do the new setting in the DCS System settings setting do? I'm talking specifically about SSAA, SSLR, Bloom and Mask. What do they do and what effect (if any) do they have in VR? Thanks!
  13. I've heard in the neighborhood of $1400 for the 3090 with 24gig of VRAM. Yeouch!! I will not be buying that anytime soon. Happy with my 2080ti for the moment.
  14. To the OP question: It sort of depends on what floats your boat. If you want to root around in the dirt and do CAS all day, then definitely the HOG. If you want multi-role and you could ONLY fly one - then the Hornet. However, when the new F-15E from RAZBAM comes out - I suspect the "If I could only fly one jet" answer will change for a lot of folks.
  15. NO, you won't lose any of your purchased modules. They are tied to your DCS account, not the install itself. So if you wipe out one and start over, you will be asked to log into your DCS account and they will all be available again. I'm actually running both Stable and OB and rarely use the Stable anymore. I'm not seeing much of a difference in terms of bugs. There are some bugs in both. Nothing that is a show stopper. OB tends to get new features about 2 weeks ahead of stable, sometimes longer. Most of the MP servers require OB, so if you're into that - OB is the way to go. My suggestion is if you are only an SP player and are not interesting in trying out new features immediately or don't want functions that you've already learned how to use to change as rapidly- then stay on Stable. But OB is perfectly playable and not as buggy as many of the vocal complainers make it out to be
  16. I'm holding out for the Xtal to drop in price to under $1000. ;)
  17. So is the DCS manual more current than Chuck's?
  18. Notso

    CAS Missions

The best aircraft for Emergency CAS is the nearest one that is not Bingo and/or Winchester. At that point, you don't get picky.
  19. Ok maybe more than just somewhat. For $40, It's a tiny map. It doesn't even have ALL of syria on there, which misses the opportunity to run a lot of the current ops against ISIS out west along the Syrian/Iraqi border. I also wish it had more Turkey and Northern Iraq as it would have been perfect to be able to run both ONW and OIF mission out of Incirlik into the Mosul/Irbil area as well as the N36 NO FLY line from ONW. If it was meant to be a more modern Syria only conflict with the civil war - then it should have encompassed more of the Med with Cyprus, Sicily and such to simulate more of the constraints of distance that the land based aircraft had to deal with to get to Syria from the Western side. It also leaves out the coalition strikes on ISIS targets that came out of the PG, mainly UAE. I'm hoping eventually the Syria and PG maps merge and they add all of Iraq, Iran, Lebanon, Israel and such to make it more geopolitically correct for how forces fought conflicts in that area of the world. I would LOVE to eventually see a larger MENA map for DCS as that would encompass pretty much all of the world conflicts since the early 70 to current day. But as it is now - meh.
  20. That makes sense to a degree. I was thinking more a marshalling crew down at EOR that would go under the jets to "generically" pull pins and Arm - knowing there are no arming pins. I wouldn't think you would need A/C specific actions for that. But yeah I could see the difficulty in that every A/C is a different size and shape and getting the crew to interact with each would be difficult. Anyway it would be nice, but obviously a WAAAAY low priority compared to the big ticket fixes and features that have already been mentioned.
  21. With the introduction of the supercarrier and the deck crew - it would be hugely cool and immersively realistic to also have both the crew chief marshalling you out of/into parking as well as the EOR (End of Runway) arming drill that land based fighters have to go through before takeoff and after landing.
  22. Syria map a major resource hog?? I downloaded the Syria map yesterday and was excited to fly out of Incirlik for some fun. I did an instant action F/A-18 Hot start from parking. In VR, the frames rates were sooooo bad, just sitting in the chocks it was almost causing nausea. I had to jump out of that map and try a different one. When I pulled up the exact same instant action mission on a different map - VR frame rates were back to normal while sitting on the ground and flying. I'll have to try the Syria again with FPS VR turned on, but honestly it couldn't have been more than 10-20fps at best. It was worse than a slide show. Is anyone else seeing this? Are you having to change your settings to get Syria to run properly? BTW - this was on the new OB update 2.5.6.53756.
  23. I would love to have ATIS and Tower winds in kts/hr rather than m/s.
