  1. Awesome info, thanks. I’m sticking with Pete lol. I don’t see him as cheating, it’s just a human analogue. The ai has some things better than a player and some things worse than a player. Regarding the ka50 one of the issues I personally had was reduced SA keeping my head glued to a screen looking for targets, then fiddling with the bad lock system that seemed to never work right. And then something I missed would shoot at me lol. So I’d prefer hovering at range. what’s the issue you’re having with Pete’s targeting? How are you setup? I have the menu up, down, left, right set to a four-way hat, and Pete on/off command set to the clicking of that hat. Then a separate button to command Pete to setup the weapons. once you click the menu on button it brings up that funky axis/crosshair that shows where to tell Pete to look. Look to target vicinity and click menu up (or maybe menu right... I’m forgetting all of a sudden) and Pete will do a lock or give you a selection menu on screen. Up/down to pick target, then menu click right to select. Also doing a long click has different commands but I don’t recall what they do.

So the biggest draw back I’m seeing is simply the ka50 in a hover at 8k can take down an entire armored column before the column aaa gets into range, whereas the hind in forward flight has time for one shot before breaking off , going downwind, then restarting attack run. Each its own tool, but I like the hind much better so far.
  4. I have virpil stick and throttle, and crosswind pedals. The hind’s default curves didn’t make any sense to me, being as sensitive as a light helo on the ground, but with almost no pedal authority. Currently my curves are this: Cyclic, both axes: +10 Collective: 0 Pedals: -15

  6. After I stopped tipping the tricycle over and blowing up on takeoff, I finally got around to shooting stuff on the firing range quick starts. What immediately stood out was how easy to use Petrovich is (I’m going to end up calling him Pete, bois). Make sure you bind his menu commands to a hat switch. Tell him to look for a target where you’re looking. He locks it or gives you a list of multiple targets. You pick one. Then fire. Awesome. It’s so intuitive and easy to use it probably makes the hind better than the ka-50. But here’s where my questions are. How does the hind atgm differ from the ka-50 (vikhrs)? Is it shorter range I think? Like 5km vs 8km? Not too bad a change. How about the lock on method, is it fire and forget or does Pete have to keep the target sighted until impact? is it a weaker warhead? Using the atgm with the ka-50 is tricky in flight and really benefits from being in auto hover. But that’s dangerous in itself. The hind with Pete is simple and effective. I like it a lot
  7. Is it true the thing will just tip over if you don’t have the stick held exactly right while on the ground? also it’s weird that I’ve had the hind drive exactly left. Like slip left. Had collective all the way down. Lol I mean I’ll manage all the quirks but the ground behavior is uh weird to me. If it’s accurate it’s accurate. Just weird
  8. I don’t think yaw ap was on when my pedals stuck. If it happens again to me I’ll save a track file. The pedals weren’t moving at all. Like I said it was as if I had rudder trimmer enabled, but I didn’t
  9. My fps took a big hit. Regular screen. I'm tired after spending awhile learning the helo and it's late I really don't want to sift through this little detail or that right now as to why my FPS took a hit. But it's lower. 2.7 has had great performance on syria. Not with the hind for me, yet.
  10. This happened to me. It appeared to me that the pedals were getting stuck, as though I had the Special Option: Rudder Trimmer enabled when I didn't. Or something like that. When I reset the trim, it was fine.

  12. Maybe I’m a bit dense and should read the whole thread before posting, but how does losing a land drag race compare to climb rate? Or turn rate? To my simple brain OPs post seems to be asking many different questions all at once.
  13. This is like asking “how can we use the Huey” yet it’s a well loved and highly used module. Even the stock campaign that comes with the Huey is pretty fun and quite long compared to others. Flying as a newguy UN pilot doing simple navigation to eventually being involved in several cas missions against insurgents and having to extract a friendly ground unit under fire. Then your character becomes the seasoned pilot. It’s good stuff. Heck you could have an almost identical campaign as a hind pilot. And then I’m sure the guys who do the inferno mission generator will add the hind in an update and generate a bunch of troop and light vehicle splodey missions edit: I might have accidentally posted this to the wrong thread
  14. Update: I took off my overclock, restarted computer, reset my overclock and slightly increased my voltage. Something corrected something. I can play again.
  15. I'm not even sure you classify them as crashes because crash reports aren't even being generated. I just played DCS World last night and was fine. My nvidia drivers are updated, my windows 10 is updated. Tonight I sit down and load DCS World (steam user) and I wanted to set my keybinds for the Mig 29S, so I tried to jump into instant action in Persian Gulf. It loads the map, I load into the cockpit, and as soon as I take control the game just turns off in a blink of the eye. No crash report. I tried that same Instant action mission several times, same result. I tried different maps, different migs, and then I tried my other modules like the F-14. Same thing, the mission loads, I close the briefing window and take control of aircraft and within 1 second my game crashes to desktop with no crash report. What even is this?

  17. Plus I have to assume once the dynamic campaign (module I assume) is completed then that will automatically be big content for every aircraft

  19. Hey Nine, Bignewy, wags et al, I've always enjoyed ww1 aviation and played the various options out there off an on. Have tried one of the major names out there right now and while it has a functional multiplayer, all the realism aspects of the "sim" fall short. Your professionalism in flight modeling, ballistics, etc are simply awesome. So I'm trying to butter you up to convince you to make a set of WW1 planes, asset, and map: DCS: SE5a, DCS: Spad XIII, DCS: Fokker DVII F, DCS: Albatross DVa, DCS: Fokker Dr.1, at least, to start off. The customer base for ww1 isn't huge, but it IS there. And I'm certain that your existing warbird community would jump in as well. So you could draw in various customers from other sims plus your current customers and perhaps it would be successful. Numerical data on flight modeling and ballistics are probably sparse but there are a lot of combat reports from the best pilots in history that can be used to review numbers calculations. There are however several rebuilt ww1 aircraft that are being flown right now today that information can be gathered from. I know of an Albatross DVa, a Fokker Dr.1, and a handful of SE5a's. The Dr.1 is especially interesting because the owner flies it aggressively, using combat maneuvers to corroborate historical accounts. Thanks.
  20. Was flying some ka-50 single player missions in Syria map last night but needed to log off, so decided to do haphazard rocket runs over AAA real quick. Took some hits that damaged my gun camera but I successfully took out several armored vehicles with using unrealistic tactics of firing close range and flying over target, breaking hard with flares popping and then recommitting in close. The ka-50 survived and if I had more rockets would have been still combat effective. The hind will be awesome. Now if you’re flying in flat terrain near f-18s with no top cover on a multiplayer server? Well that’s on you.

  22. Not sure if this goes into game crash section or not. I'm not getting "dcs crashed" situations where I can submit a report. It's just seemingly at random times my game is freezing and not responding, requiring a ctrl al del to shut it down. This has happened a couple times during menu loads, and a couple times in the midst of a dog fight in instant action. I have no idea how to recreate it or what is causing it.... just that I know these are happening since 2.7 because my game wasn't freezing before. And I just spent a week playing a lot of another sim without game freezes so I think this is DCS specific and not something else with my system. Any ideas?

  24. Were those apaches equipped with stingers? And perhaps I’m wrong but I thought the first shots were b52 cruise missiles to punch a hole in the sam network
  25. Why would we waste time, money, equipment (more than we usually do anyways) on equipping a vehicle for something it isn’t meant to do? We have a gigantic airforce and navy to take care of air superiority. There’s simply no reason to dilute the Apache’s mission. You get rekt on multiplayer servers because you’re trying to fly vulnerable assets into enemy territory without cover or plan or anything. You’re going to need to either play single player like me, or helo-focused servers, or if you’re doing some objective on air quake servers then you presumably need to coordinate air cover with some fast movers. “Hey can you loiter in grid 1234? I need top cover while I do X” (sorry I don’t know what the objectives are online lol). I don’t think America as a nation is wrong in the loadouts for the Apache simply because you are expecting to use it in a way that it would almost never be used
