PS. Can we also get a Santa Claus to Punch in the Nose ?

I enjoyed busting all the xmas lights on the new banner. In fact, it has been the best part of this xmas for me so far. I hope there will be many more things to bust up before this silly season is over with !

I don't mind having to calculate ... BUT ... I can't find a suitable Conversion Formula and/or Online Calculator (or I just don't know what I'm doing when the time comes !). Converting Feet/Meters for the sake of Bombing (F-5E) is one thing; Converting QNH to whatever so that the Altimeter works .. is another. For example: In DCS 2.whatever the Tower said something like 27.25 but I couldn't dial that in. No mater what I did, I couldn't even get the Alt to Zero regardless what I input on the dial !!

Interesting ... and Good to know ! Thanks Ironhand

I do hope they implement the ability to view GunCam footage on it's own (i.e. separate Track File) some day. I noticed along with the Exposure knob you mention is the ability to set how long the camera stays on after pressing the trigger (3 secs up to 10 secs ... I think ?!). Plus if/when working, the Red Text indicator thingy will say how many feet of film is remaining. Anyway, it may be a cool feature some day.

I'm far from being any expert on this topic but I can't imagine how ANY file can be read without it having some sort of Extension. In fact, it's not even a File of any type without an extension. Your computer has no idea that it's there or what to do with it without an extension. This is of course, only my opinion. But I think it's sound. Good luck with it because I too would love to know how to do this (playing track prior to mission start).

I'm not much of a mission designer myself, but I believe people have a right to protect their works considering how much time, skill, creativity and energy it takes to create a good mission. If they wish to share, they can do so freely in the User's File Sharing area and/or on their preferred Servers which usually have rules and stipulations that come with entering those servers. They also have the right to Market and Sell their creations and should have the right to pursue copyright infringements. At the very least, I agree with a few that have said and/or implied that at the very least, we should obtain Express Permission from the Mission Creator/Copyright Holder before using any or all parts of their mission(s) for any reasons (SP or MP). But that's just my opinions.

"RSTD: SUN AND HOL TFC EXP ARR FR N, DEP N WINDS PERM WITH TFC PAT TOWARDS E (SUNRISE MT)." That would make much more sense to me if it were in Cuneiform or Egyptian Hieroglyphics ! PS> Don't translate on my account. It's all over my head.

Thanks for all of the replies. I guess if it doesn't happen in the real world, then it shouldn't happen in DCS. But it's interesting to know that a tail hook was installed yet rarely (if ever) used. While I am really starting to like the F-5E3, I am somewhat disappointed that we cannot Trap Land (on a Carrier OR even a Runway ... for the hell of it), nor can we Air Refuel. I guess if I want the Air Refueling experience I'm going to have to jump into one of my other Mods for the experience. This may quickly end my F-5E flight time. ... or not !!?

You mean we CAN'T view the gun cam footage in a replay or as an independent file ? It's a great view ... but not when it's in front of your Controls and/or you are trying to shoot someone down and NOT look at the camera footage whilst doing so ! Obviously, I now have it turned off (so it doesn't appear while flying) BUT I thought we'd still have access to it later if/when we save a Track File for example !! ?? No eh ?

Before I go trying to learn something that to-date has been over my head, I was hoping someone else might have already created a Carrier Landing (Trap Landing) mission for the Tiger II ? Otherwise, how do I set waypoints etc to make a Carrier do a continuous route (like an Orbit type thang !). Furthermore, since the Tiger II has a Hook for Trap Landings, does this mean that we already have the capability (in DCS) to do Carrier Take-Offs too ?

Are the Towers Responding ?
SnowTiger replied to SnowTiger's topic in Release Version Bugs and Problems (Read only)
You are both doing better than me. I haven't heard a single tower command, runway clearance or startup clearance in a long time. And yes, I'm well aware I have to be on the correct channel .. which is pretty hard to not have considering the way the F-5E's radio is automatically tuned. You only have to turn it on. That said, I have in fact tried other frequencies and gotten NOTHING. Not a peep. As far as getting Landing Clearance or Directions etc, I can't even pull the Comms Menu up once I'm in flight. As mentioned in my 1st post, once I'm in the air, neither my Hotas Comms button nor the Keyboard Command Key brings it up. So there IS something going on and it's apparently not just my computer (which works flawlessly with everything but DCS). -
I agree with JG14. In fact, I think you will find that most Online Servers explain that they don't want Live Mic's (that is, they want you to use PTT push to talk" With that in mind, I have a single button set up (for all DCS Aircraft) in my SST Profiles that acts as my PTT button for use in TeamSpeak. I also have another button (set up in DCS Options) that is used for Comms re: Tower/Ground Crew etc. Hope this helps.

I haven't heard a peep from ANY Towers in either DCS 1.2 or 2 for quite a while now. What's up with that ? Furthermore, once in the air for a short period of time, I can't even get the Comm's Menu to come up (with either my Comm's button OR the "" keyboard button). What's up with that ? I haven't been able to find a Thread or Post relating to either of these 2 issues. But then I don't have allot of success searching the forums.

So while I did have everything set up correctly, it appears what I missed was the Data Breaker tripping and resetting it does NOT correct the issue. But that is why I was unable to fire the rockets. I got in there today and had zero problems .... until I did whatever it takes for the Data Breaker to trip again. Otherwise it all went really well. So Problem Solved. And I got the Gun Cam Window shut off in-game. Thanks again.

2.5 OpenAlpha or whatever it is as of last Friday

I'll look into the Options re: Track Dooom >> Yesterday was the first time in 5 months that I even bothered clicking on DCS 2, however I have continued to keep it up-to-date with updates as they have been made available. I use the same Hotas Profiles in both OpenBeta and OpenAlpha and as such, haven't noticed any conflicts. I have spent a few hours practicing rocket runs (single and ripple fire) in OpenBeta but for some reason, I can't fire rockets at all in OpenAlpha. I'll play with it a bit more today to see if it's something I'm missing and report back with the results. If worse comes to worst, I'll just leave Alpha alone for a few more months. Thanks guys.

I haven't had any issues firing rockets (ground attack) in 1.5 Open Beta but I cannot seem to get them to work in 2.5 Open Alpha (or whatever it is now ?). Is it just me ? PS> I had no idea that the Gun Camera actually works in 2.5. The camera window does Not show in 1.5. But I'd like to know how to Not See It in flight but maybe view it after a flight (like watching a track file .. which is what I thought it was if anything).
-
PS> I have tried multiple re-installs, and have followed the Trouble Shooting tips. At best, I can get to the Preferences but then it crashes when pointed to the appropriate directory (OpenBeta). I even ran an Update directly from the installation folder update.exe file which appeared to do an update ... still no joy. I don't get it !

I have been trying to update/install the latest version of KB but every time I go to start the program (with my desktop icon) it "encounters and issue" i.e. Kneeboard Building has stopped working ... One time I got it to open so I could set the Preferences (as shown in your videos). But it never worked again after that (I installed to DCS Open Beta). When I downloaded the installer, I saved it to a dedicated folder on a separate internal drive (where I keep ALL my DCS related stuff whereas DCS is installed in the Defaults on my C Drive). I unzipped the installer to the same folder and sent the executable to my desktop. I don't understand what's going on. I haven't done anything different from the first time I installed it (earlier version) which I unfortunately uninstalled prior to installing the latest. Please ... any help will be appreciated. You are welcome to PM me if that is more appropriate. Thanks in Advance

Where can we find HOW to create FM NDB's in the ME ? Is that in the DCS Manual somewhere ? I couldn't find it. But I am deeply confused by the entire ME thing to begin with. If anyone is aware of any Videos that illustrate this procedure ... by all means .. please share. Thanks in Advance.

While there "may" yet be some FM issues to be resolved, I believe the majority have been fixed and/or refined. It is much more flyable now than it was 2 months ago. I'm still not that good with it but I can fly it. I just have to learn how to kill with it (and not be seen first and getting killed for it). But then I didn't have much better success in the BlackShark either. Anyway, unlike the situation a couple months ago, I think you could very well benefit from flying NOW. I don't think you will learn any dirty habits that will stand out with future FM updates. However, I do recommend learning to fly the Huey first (if you have that opportunity). It is much easier to learn to fly and hover and will greatly improve your chances of figuring out the Gazelle (albeit it a different/opposite anti-Torque / Rudder requirement).

Great idea SW0RDF15H I don't care for starting in the air either. One of the main reasons is that it always requires things to be setup the way you like, which is much easier when you are on the ground and NOT being shot at ! I'd like to see more dogfight training missions like this for things like F5E and Mustang etc (because while I have it, I have yet to fly the Eagle). I can't wait to try your missions out. Thanks. PS> Have you video recorded any flights corresponding with these training missions that we can see ?

If it doesn't auto update by executing your desktop icon, go into Start/Programs/Eagle Dynamics and select whichever version(s) of DCS World/Update DCS World. When finished updating you can start DCS from your desktop and it "should be" up-to-date.
