We Want To Hear Your Ideas For A New Map In DCS!
Bremspropeller replied to danielzambaux's topic in DLC Map Wish List
This. -
This. And maybe mix in a B/D.

Hey Razbam, with the tinted helmet visor of the pilot on some skins, it would be awesome if that one actually changed the colour of the helmet visor. Maybe make it optional in the ME (clear, grey, green or golden). Of course the WSO would probably also like to have their visor changed. Thanks.

Ermagherd, the module is too realistic. HTFU people. Make sure you've dialled up the radio volume.

...and delete a couple of airfields and build new ones. Certainly Ramon, Ovda and Nevatim would have to go, Eilat would have to get in.

F-4E Air to Air Weapons/Capabilities Discussion
Bremspropeller replied to Aussie_Mantis's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
The hard wing F-4 isn't a brick at all when flown to it's strengths, but keep in mind that in this game a good deal of opponents will know how to BFM and fly their aircraft a lot more aggressively than historical adversaries did. Don't be surprised if you're not geting historical outcomes. Same is true for the slatted jet. Then there's the out-of-this-world AI MiG-21, of course. -

He's just pulling our sea-legs over not having an internal gun. -
Straight C with a couple of cockpit shots: http://www.aircraftresourcecenter.com/awa01/501-600/awa551-MirageF1C-333LORRAINE/00.shtm Note: This airframe (No. 62) doesn't even have the BF fitted. CZ (#201) cockpit with quite a few re-arrangements of instruments vs the CE: https://www.sa-transport.co.za/aircraft/dassault-brequet/mirage_f1-cz_saaf201.html Note the RA below the standby ADI. Intake-position gauge below the RA.

EGAF Lim-5s (and some MiG-17Fs) were used as fighterbombers in the 1970s (JBG-31), before being replaced by MiG-23BN (early 80s, JBG-37) and Su-22M4s (mid 80s, JBG-77 and MFG-28).
-
There should be no RA on the straight C and C-200 IIRC. But I'm all for those C/C-200, CG and CZ variants. The more the merrier. Not sure abot the CJ (Jordan), but the CH (Morocco) was already a good deal more advanced (doppler) to be considered broadly similar to the CE. The JA also had four heaters (Python 3 on the outboard wing-stations, Magics on the tips), but that variant is closer to the E and CH.

You'll get some canopy icing in the 339 and a bit of sticky pitot fun. Hopefully the C-130 will finally kick that door open.

Which is arguably the more interesting scenario, compared to the one sided seal-clubbing that ODS turned out to be. Some of the more interesting missions flown by Iraq would be farther south and happen pretty much in an area overlapping with the PG map.

SuE and Jaguar A would be your picks. With a grain of Mirage IIIE. -
F-4E Air to Air Weapons/Capabilities Discussion

Good stuff, thanky you guys! The "later" F-4B would be heavier, I presume, thanks to all the gear stuffed in during Project Shoehorn? -
That peacetime flying constisted of a lot of low level flying. In the weather and at night. There's not a lot of options if you're taking a wrong turn at 500kts at 500ft. Or take a bird. It's not just about aircraft or equipment failues, but also about CFIT/Spatial D, birdstrikes, bad MX and so on. Here's a former rough breakdown into HF vs technical vs external resons by a former 104 pilot. You'll see that some units were performing better tan others. http://www.916-starfighter.de/GAF_crashes_assessment.pdf For more info about the crashes, consult this overview: http://www.916-starfighter.de/GAF_crashes.htm You need to understand the attitude of those people, flying single seat fighters on fighter, recce or a nuke mission and all the macho BS involved. There's a really good story in Dave Bashow's Starfighter book (he used to fly CF-104s and CF-18s in the RCAF, so he knows a thing or two), driving home on the machismo killing a lot of people. That's the relation to the Meteor crashes a decade before, when the checklist consisted of having a fag and kicking the tyres before strapping in. Germany had more 104s than the todal number of Thuds ever built. Flying just shy of 2 million FH. The Thud crashed both before and after the SEA war. This list has 99 crashes before the first loss in Vietnam: https://aviation-safety.net/wikibase/type/f105/1 So thats 99 + 62* + 46 (after the last SEA loss) = 207+ out of 833 => roughly 25% At first glance, the numbers I have suggest the 104 in german service was actually safer than the 105 in the post SEA war timeframe. https://www.safety.af.mil/Portals/71/documents/Aviation/Aircraft Statistics/F-105.pdf The accident rates of the german 104s were below 3 per 10.000FH at average between '71 and 81'. (German Sarfighetrs - Klaus Kropf, pg. 123) Old myths die hard. All contemporary jets have an attrition-rate in the 30% region. Outliers aside (like the RAAN which lost 50% of their A-4 fleet). *looking for a save to get back to topic* Those two guys were a split second away from becoming a flaming mess of hair, teeth any eyeballs. Frontseater G-LOCs and backseater is desparate in waking him up. Note the initial disorientation associated with waking up, findng yourself in a jet, in the goo, windnoise getting louder and somebody screaming in your ear to RECOVER! Which way is up? Where's the nearest horizon to roll to? The 2000D is going transonic on the way down and bottoms out at 170ft radalt. And if you flash back 50 years to the high time of 104 crashes (losing one every two weeks in 1965 on average), you'd have not a single clue of what had happened as an investigation board. No HUD-cam, no data or crash-recorder. Not a good start for a safety investigation that's trying to actually improve safety, other than stating "possible pilot error". Bottom line: Flying jets is dangerous. ___ * and that's not even accounting for ops losses beside technical in Vietnam ==> the actual percentage of ops losses is in the 30+% region, guaranteed

F-4E Air to Air Weapons/Capabilities Discussion

How do the B and J compare in that chart? The B should be lighter but at slightly less thrust. -
The RAF lost more Meteors in 1952 alone than the RCAF lost CF-104s in 25'ish years of service. But it's the 104 that sucks. Yeah, right. I'd also love me some additional variants of the 2000. Either a 2000-5Mk2 or a 2000-9 with both MICA-slinging and substatantial multirole-capability. Or a 2000D because it's cool lasing your own bombs and bringing a friend. Even an export RDM+ aircraft would be nice (like the indian 2000H birds), as they'd had external ECM, laserpods and AS.30L missiles. The 2000RDI is still a cool jet and offers more than just the interceptor role. Focus on other things than slinging missiles at each other.
-
What's also important to note is that the aircraft changes character with the wings moving. Wih the wings fwd, she might be a bit twitchy in pitch. Especially at slow speed. With the wings travelling aft, pitch response and pitch trim behaviour gets a little more settled down. The farther aft the wings are, the more the twitchyness transverses into the roll-response. This might also be a thing playing into the aircraft feeling and trimming weird at first.
-
Beacause a climb or descent at constant IAS will change your Mach and hence the wings will start moving, which in turn will upset your trim. Big and quick. I personally like the coarse trim much better than the fine trim of two'ish years ago, when it took ages to retrim the jet after the wings moved about.
-
Are you accounting for the wings moving on a Mach schedule? Constant IAS climbs/ descends will make the wings move and that will get you divergently out of trim.

There are some interesting 3rd party mods on Hunters out there. The RSAF employed a mod that enabled the carrying of four Sidewinders, by introducing a pylon on the wingroot. Bump for Hunters
