  1. I have been able to jump back into Black Shark some and Flaming cliffs two. g940 still working good enough for me. You need more RAM for one thing. i2500k systems on a p8z68 Asus is what i got. Im running raid 0 and accelerating it with a 60gb SSD. The harddrives are just 3gbs re3 drives that are still flawless so I kept them. I couldnt ask for more really. My system is fast and is crunching Black Shark and FC just fine. I ran auto tune up to about 4.4 ghz and stuck a fork in it. If you go with these board pay attention to the ram voltage and make sure you buy ram that matchs. Like my board need 1.5v ram. You NEED to ONLY put 1.5v ram in it. Some other important things is the Intel Nic . I would not buy a MB that does not have an Intel Lan Support......Period http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131792 365 bucks plus 80 bucks for new ram, 80 bucks for a ssd to use as cache drive.
  2. 550ti is neutered , its a cheap edition . The 560ti at the same time competed against it. The 560 ti cost more but was twice the value.
  3. http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=138_711_1183&products_id=18610 Thats the ASus z68 board I got. Its GREAT. Generation 3 so all the bugs are out of this model. Asus has a Auto tune software that actually works. I let mine climb to 4.4 ghz and hit a button to lock it there. All the setting are made in the bios by the system for the overclocking. Mostly , so its real easy to turn up and stick a fork in, calling it done. Newegg shows a video about the z77 chipset http://www.newegg.com/Store/Category.aspx?Category=20&name=Motherboards Want to save money , then get a P8 . Dont care get the Sabertooth.

  5. pcper.com is a good place with mature people to learn how to build your own
  6. An overclocked 2500k just about beats it. Its about 130 bucks more for this compared to an i2500k. Its better at multithread games an apps but then again so is the 2600k that would just about match the ivy bridge. The realease is good news for Laptops. Its a big YAWN for desktops. Read comments too. http://pcper.com/reviews/Processors/Intel-Core-i7-3770K-Ivy-Bridge-LGA1155-Processor-Review There is some really stupid stuff going on at manufactures of cpu and mb. The whole x79 setup for example is an overpriced and complete waste of time and money.
  7. i ran a q6600 for 4 years. Wanted painfully to go back to AMD. In Jan 2012 Couldnt justify it. See sig for gaming. For Cad you would want a 2600k it handles multithreads better. I would do some comparisons related to Cad if you still insist on AMD.
  8. Im for sure done with ATI until a mirical happens. Remember anatech or someone did a review with LOMAC. Remember the GTX 6600 how great it was with LOMAC. Those were the days! The 6600 was incredible. beating alot of other overpriced cards in frame rates that were supposed to be a better card!
  9. Very cool, too late now but want to check this thread. That case was a toss up against the GS1200 Zalman. I really like the design. Esp good if your living on the edge and changes. I can already see a new cpu next year and a motherboard in two. The Q6600 was a nice 4 year run at 3.0 ghz +
  10. I use a couple of these with one on win 7 64 bit. I have no problem. I have the 1545 seriel versions. Using a tripplite usb to seriel connection. Win 7 loads the driver for that no problem. The website has the universal driver at the top of that page. Some seriel adaptors can have poor drivers and cause problems. i see there are a bunch on ebay for cheap! This is what mine look like. He has 24 for sale. http://www.ebay.com/itm/ELO-touchscreen-computer-monitor-ET1547L-8SWC-1-15-/130665070648?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1e6c3ec038
  11. If you do want to waste your time with windows 8 or at least get a feel for yourself you can give your hardware a workout and get into virtual Machines. Check out windows 8 customer preview copy and its all free. Plus learn how to install other OS like windows XP. http://www.pcper.com/reviews/General-Tech/Installing-Windows-8-Consumer-Preview-VirtualBox-Virtual-Machine This will not touch your precious win 7 install.
  12. That is some good advice. I went with the zalman 9500 and it works fine for the 2500k . Cheap too. The memory I kept at the 1.5 voltage for the sake of the cpu. So went with the corsairs. No regrets. I didnt like the UD3 Its proven one but stacked up against to Gen 3 boards, its not worth it. The p8z68 is the best option unless you want to spend over $300 bucks for a mb.
  13. Symanatec back up exec is what i use. I recommend you get ver 8 or higher. ver 10 if you can. I can restore from a back up in about 25 minutes.
  14. Thanks for the link. I buy Sony stuff and I know this is a very new thing to hit the market. http://store.sony.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&productId=8198552921666383670&XID=O:sony%20hmz%20t1:dg_tv_gglsrch:e&k_id=4483a70a-3155-9848-9be5-000020e0e5de#reviews For 800 bucks though its expensive but delivers. I have always liked the 3 d effect. I think Sony does it best.
  15. Welcome to the over 30 inch club. im 25 inchs away from my 32 inch. I like it. I think I could live with 37. I dont know about 40
  16. I for one feel very very lucky to have not skipped out and missed a z68 system running a cache drive. I think its the BEST THING SINCE THE LCD MONITOR! Ram disks first page says.....Using a RAMDISK has a penalty of one CPU core in use due to filesystem and ramdisk overhead.
  17. One of our PC techs did a big read a couple weeks on the current affairs of the ssd tech. It was enough to scare him away for now. On an accelerated z68 system though, those problems for the os or managment are not a problem. I can honestly say that the performance I see with load times of BS missions and what now are faster than raid alone first load. When I reload the mission there is almost NO WAIT. Like 10 seconds. thats it. I dont see an avantage of two ssd drives in a raid setup at all and I sure would stay in the " safe " area instead. Some peeps want to talk bad about intels Cache tech but I am seeing very bragable performace with business apps, accounting applications. BF3 and all the DCS games.
  18. Yes and there are a couple places that detail the diff and run some benchs. I was amazed how well a raid 0 runs accelerated by a cache drive. I went for it. At first I thought I was going to be done with raid 0 but NO WAY, no time soon.
  19. But if you choose 560Ti, do not forget there are two kinds of them: one with 384 stream-processors, yeah but.....I dont think the 480stream-procs was worth it. I like the zotac amp 560ti I got. If your rich go ahead and buy bettter but this is a nice video card and i2500k at 4.3 automatic overclock. Games run nice. Screw ati and there crap drivers. So glad to be done with the 2 monitor driver problem I was having to deal with. Crap! Didnt have to do anything with the 560ti. Saw them both and no problem!
  20. Worth checking out if your sticking with the g940.
  21. should be moved over into input forum. Thanks for heads up.
