  1. In Marks defence ......we all get silenced by our boses sometimes. Somethings are just too big to continue anything on the subject at a certain time. Obviously this is what we have seen. A major fiasco aas far as our flight sim goes and really its turned into a technical hell im sure for some who have to work on it. Its not that interesting or worth writing about. The only real story here is how early the project hit the market without a real understanding of our flight sim. Thats about it.
  2. You damn right you are. I have high hopes. You Thrustmaster people better take advantage of this crisis and deliver the goods. Deliver the a 10 setup that can bring peace to the sim world and get more people flying with DCS.
  3. Run a third sata or ide drive so you can backup your raid os or your precious files. Raid O is only fun and games if you have a solid backup plan that you actually USE.
  4. http://ati.amd.com/products/certified/powersupplies.html#pstop This link will show you AMD ATI certified PSUs for thier stuff. Engineer and match the parts! In your case 1000 watt OCZ PSU is what I would go with. I also trust Tagan and Silverstone.
  5. The only thing Logitech does right that I have seen over the past ten years or whatever are keyboards. Come to think of it I think I have been on a logitech keyboard for over ten years. Right now I use a G15 for the last 2 years. I do recommend the keyboards and thats all.
  6. Its ok and that is a $350.00 us motherboard. I would save 100 bucks and go with a Asus maximus formula 3. It supports i7 and i5. I would then go with a i5 proc http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115215 and again save about 100 bucks. These cutting edge boards are designed to overclock and are quality, mine is going on 2.5 years. But in a simmers world the risk and reward ratio is not worth it. I only use a trusted and tested moderate overclock on my system (cpu )and refuse to overclock memory, test it on a regular basis and use a symantec backup exec 8.5 desktop edition to restore everything if it dies. 6.5 is good enough too. Your PSU is not recommended by ATI AMD, change that http://ati.amd.com/products/certified/powersupplies.html#pstop I am learning hdd recovery and repair, I do not believe hdd tech is where it should be with 1 tb drives. At least in a power user environment. On the surface there is just too many places for data to spread out on a 1tb drive, room for mistakes increase. Insted of that drive I would run a wd single drive that has a five year warranty. All raid edition drives are made better like this. I would not trust my data to a drive that only has a 3 year warranty is the bottom line. PLus you dont have to use a raid setup with a raid edition drive. Although I am using two wd 320gb raid edition3 drives in a raid 0 and its been very nice.
  7. Very interesting, and SHIT another thing I wana learn. Right now I am kinda crippled with a crappy x52 and working on getting my desk setup with a slideout 15 inch touchscreen with touchpal. Then the A 10 stick and this sounds really cool. I think myt old x52 is going to turn into bullet food. thanks!
  8. Not Cheesy and worth the click. The guy sounds like Arnold!
  9. I like the OP system for 1200 bucks that aint a bad price. One could almost spend that building it them selves. Laptops are really funny when talking about this sim. Laptops do inherently have a problem with High performance games, unless as mentioned they are " made for gaming " . Basically you have the neg factors in a typical non game laptop. Slower speed harddrive, slower motherboard in general ( yes some MB are just slower than others), slow graphics. Soome of that is fixed with a " gaming laptop" like faster graphics, faster hdd, and maybe a faster motherboard. Both platforms will suffer from heatbuild up and that will eventually cause insignificant, meaningful and consequential results as in a problematic death of hardware.
  10. After the Logitech failure, I really cant wait much longer before i lose my mind. Im grounded with lock on right now. The x52 works ok in DCS. I have high hopes again for this A 10 stick and yes I hope it works wwell with everything else.
  11. lol mine does ok, i use DCS MAX when I run BS. I am installing a 4870 next week though since my comp is two years old, I thout I would do something to it. :)
  12. My 2.4ghz q6600 runs easy at 3.0ghz and has and on occasion still does pass system check for stability. Stability being the number one thing we must have as a simmer, plus a good backup and restore plan for our computer. I am sure the 750 can bump up to 3.0ghz without a sweat. I dont think you would need special cooling, just a bump up in cpu voltage, search for other running whatever motherboard and cpu you decide on and start with their settings. BTW the new cpus really dont offer a q6600 user much more improvement so mine stays for its thierd year of problem free service.
  13. It makes me so happy I can build my own computers. My last build is going 2.2 years strong. I had to RMA a video card recently and that was painless through asus. Anyway it does pay to have a backup computer. I have a laptop I use when main rig is down or getting worked on. Plus I am setting up a desktop in my living room that will run a touchscreen monitor with jukebox software and next to that will be a laptop stand for whatever occasion. Sorry, but sooner or later they will be everywhere :) http://www.amazon.com/Dual-Desk-Mount-Arm-Black/dp/B000GGY8W4/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1266637411&sr=1-5 This is going on a coffee table.
  14. I always point people to the leaderboard. That way they can check out the hardware for themselves and get familier with some kind of formula for success. http://pcper.com/hwlb.php There is also now a forum dedicated to the hardware and configs in the leaderboard. All could learn from it. GL
  15. Hi Grimes i meant to ask you about this, the 4870 being faster you say buged me and so does the bit bus of the 5770 that I dont like. The bit bus on a vc is like the highway for memory. Based on old rules for example a 128mb vc that has a 64 bit bit bus is a little crippled. The highway doesnt have enough lanes to push the memory through. But if the card has a 128 bit bus then there will be no bottleneck for the memory. I have always thought that this is just a scam that the manufactures do to get you to buy a bigger card and it works. They handicap a decent looking card but rip you in the details, leaving you wanting more. Class action lawsuits were put on ati and nvidia about a year ago. I sent off the claim letter but have not gotten anything back. The complaint is about artificial price manipulation. Part of the problem in the 9800 days was the xbox getting most of ati's production of gpu's but I still like seeing them get sued. $1000.00 for a 9800 xt AIW or something was a complete and gross rip off. So Grimes, tell us if you can, do your performance problems seem to be coming from memory? Are you overclocking any?
  16. Make things match. all hardware. For example: Flight sims need to do AA anti aliasing ..... best as possible and process textures and geometry best as possible. Right now RED wins over Green for flight sims. ATI wins Green kills red for eye candy stuff like left for dead or other high tech 3d grafics. Thats just the general rule to keep in mind as far as I know. ATI looser.
  17. If I had to do it now I think I would just go with the 5770 http://www.pcper.com/article.php?aid=795 As my wallet is making more decisions lately I tend to stay out of the finner details of ohhhhh this has so much more transistors or something. AS long as the performance is there and the thing can deliver quality and is reasonable .....its going to win my money oh and the 5770 is a dx 11 card. Actually I think nvidia is a better company and has the best design but again the wallet wanted to with the 5770. I decided I have too many other things to worry about right now. LIKE BUYING A NEW STICK! Make that easy !
  18. Thanks for the post, I have been waiting for someone to make something interesting and easy to work with. I can see manufactureing going to the lowest labor country iin the world with this. I would buy this think for the ease of working with harddrives and everything else. They did say it was quiet too so its a great design then. Not in my budget but who knows maybe someday.
  19. I was afraid of this, Like I said they really needed to be traveling to DCS and working directly with them if they are really interested in more sales. i can understand seeing the stick hit the market and working with less complex sims etc etc . I dont understand what seems to be an after thought in sales, engineering, performance etc. in respect to DCS, or us in general. I know game publisher want a bees like UBI crap, those discusting people will release a game in BETA and rip you off $50.00 bucks all the while telling you to go home and see your mother about growing up. I was not aware this kind of practice was coming to EXPENSIVE PC GAMING HARDWARE! Im shocked!!!
  20. I am still interested in THEIR opinion.
  21. What did logitech say about it? Sounds like a bad stick to me.
  22. http://forums.techarena.in/operating-systems/1201760.htm this thread sums up what I would say, could be hardware related, your HD may be failed, or problem with cpu and or memory, this can cause a failed install or an install that will not complete.
  23. Im going to keep track of the threads and hope for a miracale. Someone has to do something....
  24. Very Nice Lets get some instructions posted someday on how to get this up and running is a few hours. THANKS!!
  25. The 5770 does just about everything and pcper says its only $160.00 http://pcper.com/article.php?aid=795 INFO http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125301&Tpk=GIGABYTE%20GV-R577D5-1GD-B%20HD%205770 The 5870 seems like a waste of money. One of the reasons im considering the 5770 is because the memory bandwidth has increased about 16gb per sec over the old 3850 card that was 60gbps mbandwidth. This is good if you are using a HDTV for a monitor. If not then I would be better off with a 8800gts or something and put money in CPU or Raid 0. Im already there personally. But the 5870 will do around 150gb memory bandwidth. That spec is too high for me to quantify right now...
