Launched from range the Mav is not the fastest nor the smallest tool in the shed.

Shooting down AI mavericks or just player's?

I guess the question is does this happen in RL, never heard of mavs being shot down by air defenses. Kind of seems like a stretch to kill a mav mid flight ?

In RL mavs haven't had to deal with the last technology in air defences, as some posts above says a maverick launched from distance is quite a big target going straight at not much more that mach 1 or less.

It doesn't seem like a big deal to shoot down one.

If the Maveric is launched towards the same Tunguske shooting it Down, it's very stretched, and i doubt there's any documentation on it at all, remember it's only the diameter of the Maveric that show on radar, not much more than a bird.

Edit; One more thing, the Maverics in A-10A can't even Lock outside a 8 mile range, are they just dumbed down?

Tunguskas has radar/optic adquisition.

Modern ones much more sophisticated optic-radar combos, and the Pantsir even more.

It´s interesting that even Wiki said that Tunguskas are able to intercept little cruise missiles, so new M1 with modern adquisition combos and Pantsir ones are likely to be able to intercept it.

They have also data link with early warning/radar surveillance vehicles sharing data between a battery of Tunguskas and intercepting more than one target at the same time.

Tanks with Arena protective system can engage such missiles/rounds, so thecnically it´s possible.

From what i can see, the 'Tunguska' we use here, is the same one from LockOn 1.0, and has nothing to do with M1 or Pantsir.

And even 'small' Cruise missiles have bigger radar cross section flying across, and not directly towards the Tunguska.

Just because a weapon is capable to shoot down a thing, doesn't mean it can in any situation.

Yes, that´s true, DCS Tunguskas are not the more modern ones and maybe they are overmodeled a bit.

Dumbed down I think. ED have had them like this for ages.

Or they forgot / decided not to update the units name to reflect the modernization.

I'm seeing this as well. Played a quick game of multiplayer and all mav missiles shot at a tung were destroyed. Turned on labels and saw it clearly that the tung missile destroyed the mav. I think something is broken here. Perhaps the mav is being identified as a plane?

Luneburg lens found on F-22 is just as small. Don't judge the dog by its size.

If a Maverick or equivalent was ever launched at a US Ship with Sea Wiz active the would be no chance of the missile making it to the target.:D

"Sea Wiz" LOL

It would be great to see some "official" reply to this one.

We attempted to neutralize a Tung with one AGM-65D from each of two aircraft. Tung shot them both down, first went down at 3-4nm from target second probably made it to ~1nm. We came around and tried again with everything we had (3 or 4 more AGM-65Ds plus guns) and managed to kill it. I have not tested the effect on HARMs yet, but it seems that if they are even firing at HARMs this is probably an actual bug and not an intentional feature.

Modify your tactics. The SA-19 is still as easy as ever to deal with and can be taken down with a single AGM-65. Although that assume a single unit, a properly deployed firing battery will be a bit harder to deal with and will likely require a coordinated 2-ship or even 4-ship attack depending on the battery formation.

And no there is no bug, working as intended. I had some misgivings regarding the 2S6 post 1.2.4, but after some extensive testing I'm happy with the current implementation, given the current DCS engine limitations.

Although designated the 2S6 in the ME, the capabilities of the Tunguska in DCS since 1.2.4 are closest to the 2S6M1.

I'm still not sold on tungs and tors being able to shoot down mavs. Just because they should in theory does not mean it can happen in RL. Show me references, data, combat foote, or something that proves this.
