Improve Performances (PDF)

Hey guys,

I wrote a short PDF with some steps I did on my DCS to stop stuttering and MP crashes.

Give it a try

Btw, I'm french so I did my best to translate it, tell me if you don't understand something.

EDIT : Another test, If I move the pagefile.sys on the disk where my DCS is, it keeps crashing with an error window (virtual memory). I moved this file to another disk and it works now.

Thank's, I will give Process Lasso a try. Funny thing is about your preload radius setting, for me it's the exact opposite: set at 150000: can't join server, even if there are only a few people, decrease at the lowest value, so 100, I can join ALL server I want, BlueFlag, Cold War, with between 30/50 pilots without any problem...and I don't notice more stutter or loading time if this value is set at 100.

Thanks very much Sham03.

This has helped my single-player problems quite a bit.

Great guide, for vram and standard ram I use Razer Cortex it frees up quite about of ram before you boot up dcs. I fly in VR so it's a big help

Nice guide , thx for posting, will try this out of curiosity.

question: Do I strictly Need this "Process Lasso " software to optimise process issues, or can Processor Affinity / Priority Class etc also be trimmed / optimized directly via Windows 7 Task Manager -> Perfomance Tab ? .. Never tweaked / experimented anything - processor wise- in Windows user interface

EDIT: I tried Process Lasso with the recommended settings and my performance seems to have slightly improved.. will further test to be 100% sure though

Hi SHAM03

:thumbup:You made my day. For several months I've been trying to finish with the stutters and crash, I've read almost every post in this forum with no success.

I followed your instructions and everything works perfect.

Many thanks and all the best to you, brother.

There seem to be a few critical points that all should be aware of with the Beta and it's bugs:

#1: Delete/rename your ".../SavedGames/DCS.." folder after each DCS update and GPU driver update. Less grey hair !

#2 DELETE/DEINSTALL all your 3rd party add-ons, fly Vanilla in Beta.

#3 Have a proper PageFile setting, recommended is at least the size of your RAM, 16/16 or 32/32.

I would not take less than 32GB imho and I would allow PageFiles on ALL drives but the DCS drive if you have more drives to choose from. Splitt I/O as much as you can, DCS is a beast.

general tips:

#4 Use a SSD(s), this should be very clear by now. Use 1 for OS and 1 for DCS is even better.

#5 ProcessLasso is a nice helper, employ it with DCS set to SingleThreadedPerformanceMode

#5 engage HighPerformance PowerSettings for your PC ( Cpanel ) and GPU ( GPU Cpanel ).

Thanks a lot BitMaster for the imformation.

To be honest I've never had Dcs running correctly. I've always had a lot of stutter and crash even before the DCS 2.5 OpenBeta. I followed a lot of advice in this forum which I really appreciate. So today when I tried Shum03's advice and dcs started working fine I was very surprised. I'm going to follow your advice, too. Many thanks once again

Hi BitMaster

I followed your advice and the game is running even better.

I have 3 ssd drivers, Operation system run alone on a ssd 500GB. DCS runs alone on another ssd 1tb and Pagefile on ssd 120GB.Huge difference was made.My settings are all maxed out.

And I'm very happy.

Thank you very much and all the best to you

@Sham03 This info is pure gold!

Before using Process Lasso the game was unplayable on my system (Win10pro, i9 7980XE, 32 GB RAM, 1080ti ...). It was constantly crashing, loading took ages and when i was lucky to get flying for a couple of minutes before freezing and crashing, graphics were extremely stuttering and overall awful performance (low or high settings, didn't matter). This thread should be a sticky!

Now everything runs fine at very high settings!

 glad it boosted your performance even more

I myself just put in another 250GB SSD....just for PageFile. Better than collecting dust on the shelf. I now run the PF solely off that SSD, no other drive(s)

Just wanted to report that after following the two posts below my performance has much improved. First, I found out what was causing my crashes. The patch before the latest apparently did not like the amount I was overclocking my video card which was causing my CTD headaches. The sim would crash every-time after the first time I would power up my system. After pulling back my MSI overclocking settings a little it no longer crashes. My appologies to ED's bug reporting system monitors. You probably have about 100 automatic crash logs from me. Next, I wanted to see if the two posts below would help my system at all with FPS and latency. I installed Process Lasso (never heard of it until now), followed the PDF, and cleaned out my saved games folder. Mind you, I did all this one at a time between testing the sim for gains to see what worked best. Before, while over cities and forests etc, the sim would drop down to 20-30 fps and stuttering would increase a bit. Changes combined, the sim is running stable for me now between 40-60 fps. V-sync is OFF, because it causes stuttering for me: the GPU spikes (the graph looks like a heart attack in progress) and V-sync off the sim runs much smoother with GPU usage max and level at 99%. Latency has been reduced. Almost all my settings are on high, see below for my ingame and Nvidia settings. If you have a older rig (my processor and mobo are 8 years old now), I highly recommend the posts below. Many thanks to Sham and Bitmaster!

Yeah, having the swapfile and DCS on one and the same drive might be a hurdle, if that is even the OS drive you are bound to run into issues.

1 slave can hardly serve 3 Masters !

Splitt your I/O...this is a very old and still valid truth, despite NVMe and SSD and PCIexpress ..it is still a vaild tip.

Thank you very much for your suggestions, but what do you think about this?:

I am pretty sure after days of testing, that the main reason for stutters is that

some situations / terrains jump from 20 to 50 FPS or more all the time.

Either 30 or if possible 60 stable and constant, only this guarantees fluidity.

(for a 60 Hertz monitor).

Anything else than 30 or 60 stutters like crazy with my setup. 120 is not reachable.

No way to fly in Nevada or Normandy, Caucasus and PG are most of the time OK,

with eitner 30 or 60 FPS.

Hi

I tried this and my system did not like it at all I got very bad micro stutters. I reverted pagefile back, which made no difference, I stopped Lasso and instability dissappeared; this was clearly the issue. The only thing that I was unable to set from the .pdf was the 'single threaded performance mode' which I could not find- whether this setting or lack of was the issue?

Any advice welcome.
