In case anyone does not see it, this was posted a little earlier in the Oculus Rift discussion thread by Wags:

Hey everyone,

Earlier we mentioned that we have been working on DCS VR optimization. I have good news today! After much investigation and work, we traced the issue back to the terrain engine. We have since adjusted the terrain engine, and this has resulted in a 50% increase in VR performance! We will continue to test and optimize this further, but we hope to have this great improvement to you soon.

Holy cow. And I’ve just splashed out on a 2080ti. Bloody typical. Lol.

That's called 'future-proofing' - nothing wrong with that. :)

Anyway, looking forward to those new engine improvements hopefully very soon!

Heh. Just ordered mine on Sunday. LOL

This is great news though! For all of us who made the same leap to a 2080ti, it just means the new improvements will be even more noticeable. :D

Well, I'm frankly a bit less worried about the HP reverb running with DCS now. And hopefully next week I will have the "uber system" up.

Yup. Still looking to the Reverb as my VR HMD upgrade. I may even upgrade the processor to a 9900K soon, since this would be the first time in memory that a significant processor upgrade isn't going to require a new motherboard. It runs on a Z3XX series motherboard, just like my 8700K does. Starting with the GPU first though, so I can see how much difference it makes on its own. The difference between the 980ti and 1080ti on my 5960X machine was like night and day. Hopefully this will be the same.

Going from a 4720hq and 980M laptop to a 9700k/2080ti should be an "upgrade" :)

As I long suspected... the meaning of life, the universe and everything is NOT 42. It is a brand new powerful VR machine, a crop of new 2019 VR headsets and the guy who produces your favorite piece of software telling you he found a 50% improvement in VR performance.

Since I own a "normal" Nvidia 1070, I have to admit that this is fantastic news. Can't wait for improvements in VR, longest time awaited.

This is very promising. I currently run the Rift and have to dial down on quality as we all do.

I am scoping out a new VR ubermachine and am looking at the Asus OC'd Strix 2080 Ti with 32 Gb RAM. Would you more experienced guys go for i7 9700K or i9 9900K for the CPU?

I know DCS does not benefit really from HT and only uses a couple of cores. The i9 runs hotter and I intend to overclock the CPU to over 5 GHz so that is an important consideration.

Please feel free to weigh in!

Looking to get the HP Reverb too, unless the Valve Index is a surprise.

The 9900k combined with a 2080 Ti is a pretty sweet combo.

Assuming you mean 'airplanes in the sky, don't get too excited, he said 'terrain engine'. :music_whistling:
