I will be doing an overhaul of my tool soon to reflect recent changes to the object camera system. -7/13/24 Cinematic Camera's Menu & Automatic Xbox Controller Input Tool I was able to make a cinematic cameras menu using steam input, but the steam version of DCS is not required for the tool. When using my tool you can tap once then press down on the d pad of your xbox controller for the camera menu to appear. If you select an option from the camera menu, the tool will switch to that camera and automatically switch the control scheme of the Xbox controller to best manipulate that specific camera type. You should theoretically be able to create a DCS cinematic video without having to the touch keyboard with my tool. In Depth Video Tutorial Here: A Quick Text Based Guide This is assuming you own the stand alone version of DCS but if you own the steam version skip to step 3. Within Steam, enable steam input for xbox controllers. Add DCS to steam as a non steam game. Enable steam overlay while in game: Steam Settings, In Game, Tick Enable steam overlay while in-game. Enable steam input for DCS (for stand alone users its' the one you just added) With DCS selected in your games library, click on the controller icon on the far right side. Refer to step 3 if you don't see it. With the steam controller input window open, click on browse community layouts. Then under community search "DCS FILMIING" Apply the highest version number of DCS FILMING created by the user Crow(Me) If you don't see my layout in the community tab click on show all layouts towards the bottom hopefully you will see it now. To test it, load an instant action of any DCS officially created aircraft. Once in game press escape and make sure to clear out any commands that DCS may have applied to your xbox controller. Clear any commands it applied under the general controls tab and the current aircraft your using or plan to use for film making. Tap and hold down on the D pad of the xbox controller for the menu to appear. Move your thumb around the menu then let go on the camera you want to select. You don't need to hold down for the menu to appear to select another camera menu option on the d pad. But the menu helps if want to enter any options that exist in the diagonal selections. Refer to my most up to date controller input guide image on my DCS user file page in screen shots to understand how manipulate the camera, but its pretty intuitive. I initially created this tool for members of the flying community I'm apart of but I thought I might as well improve upon it and share it publicly. This is the sort of thing I wished existed for me when I first trying make videos in DCS. So I hope others find it helpful. Refer to my DCS user file page below for updates to the steam controller input guide image and denotation of further updates to my tool. https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3334129/ I have not had much experience with creating tutorials so hopefully it all make's sense.

Something that many other flight simulators does but DCS doesn't is having the option for their camera axis control to operate smoothly/freely without reverting back to its original position after letting go of the analog stick. Like my WINWING Ursa Minor and Logitech X56 both feature an analog joystick, but the only camera controls I can map them to are the Absolute Camera Horizontal/Vertical View key binds. I'm not saying it should change, it would just be nice if we had another camera key bind that doesn't respring back to the center of the screen. And yes I know Track IR and other head-tracking solutions exist but that's not what I'm asking. IMG_1426.mp4 The only axis camera keybinds are the Absolute Camera Horizontal/Vertical View and shift binds which behave like this. IMG_1429.mp4 This is what I'm talking about in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.

change camera limits on F10 map and in mission editor
WirtsLegs posted a topic in DCS Core Wish List
So this is I think a pretty minor thing, but would represent a pretty significant QoL improvement for many users Currently in the F10 map or in the editor you cant push any edges of your view past the edge of the map Seems reasonable, except it becomes a big issue with anyone that has a wider than typical aspect ratio. As this results in severely limiting how far they can zoom out, making navigating the larger maps especially something of a chore. Given that ultrawide (21:9) and superultrawide(32:9) are already quite common in the sim community and rapidly becoming more popular, I would suggest either removing that limitation or expanding it to give some buffer allowance outside the map boundaries, simply showing nothing or black or w/e in the areas past the boundaries is fine as the intent is not to use that space it is to allow zooming out far enough that you can see the whole map in the vertical axis -
Hi, I'm wondering how you can disable the cockpit camera collision, so you can move the cockpit camera down to the left and right panels, like in this cinematic at 0:05: I've disabled camera terrain collisions in the server.lua file but this didn't do anything. Anyone know how to do this? Thanks

Hello, I'm wondering if there is a way to export a Image from a MFD such as a AG Radar image or targeting pod image for use in future briefings. I know I could just screenshot it from a track or something but it's very clumsy. Can you take a kind of snapshot from the display and if so how would I do it. If this isn't the case can any mission makers give some advice on how they would do this. I think the addition of cameras for recon would open up new possibilities for missions, it seems kind of weird to me that you couldn't take a picture with a targeting pod. I'm interested in this for providing more realistic / immersive information for briefing in missions. Thanks!

Mouse axis can be assigned there, but not HOTAS axis stick, which makes no sense to me as that is basically the same in terms of input, but the game simply blocks this option. I’m aware that there is another pov option that uses discrete inputs, but that works extremely bad comparing to the axis camera control. is there any way to make it works without virtual mouse/tracIR input?

'Jump to Free Camera' works during missions but not in the Mission Editor. I've tried the default key bind (ctrl+F11) and binding it a joystick control. I click on an area, zoom in and press the bind, but the Free Camera won't activate. I want to see how things will actually look without jumping back and forth between the mission and Mission Editor.

There was a very useful tool that consisted of recording map views (mission running) which generated a .lua file. The way to generate these bookmarks, which are still archived after the update, in: X:\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\Config\View\Bookmarks\terrains It was going to the map F10, find the position to save, press Ctrl F11, and then the letter "z". This generated a dropdown menu, where you named the position to save. To access that saved view, it was accessed in the same way and only double-clicked on the name of the saved position. I have tried many combinations of letters to access the menu after the 2.8 update, without results. I hope ED reads this, or if someone discovered the way to access it, indicate how to do it. Thank you

Regarding to: Camera view up right slow: RAlt + Num9 Camera view down right slow: RAlt + Num3 These two functions are inverted: "Camera view up right slow" looks at down right, and "Camera view down right slow" looks at up right. Also, after using "Camera view up right slow", is not possible to use "Return camera base: RAlt + Num5" to look at center. Tested in stable 2.8.1.34667.2

Hi Everyone, One of the changes that was made in the outstanding 2.7.0 update is now the F6 camera copies the F2 camera setting (found under settings -> misc), before the F6 camera would be fixed and would not shake or float. Would it be possible for this to be a separate setting in a future update?

I tried the M version after a while and found two important issues: 1. When the chopper is placed on hover the pilot loses the control of the rudder, its remaing in the last heading when the hover was activated. 2. In Hover, with the camera stabilized on a point, when the chopper is slaved to it, the camera does not be stabilized anymore, and it drift mainly to the right, when I tried to compansate manually the position, could drift to the left. So it is impossible to fix the camera to a target I tried the same test with L version, the issue 1. is the same, but the issue 2 seems to be inexistent.

Hello, so I'm having this issue now and note I was not having it before the latest update, through many different tests with different aircraft, all having the same issue. When I want to watch replays, such as doing an airshow for example, when I go into F11 or even LCtrl+F11 free view, the padlock will either not lock onto the aircraft or it will lock onto an ambiguous space way Infront of the aircraft that is not even an object, it's like it locks onto the aircraft but forces the camera way out front it making the plane completely unviewable. Has anyone else have or had this issue that knows how to fix it?

I can not move the mouse to orbit my aircraft in F2 view on a Replay .trk This happened to me a few times now. I did a flight on a multiplayer server with a friend today and I went to check out the replay but noticed that it wont let me move around in F2 external view to change the angle. Its very strange. It's hard locked to one angle I can't orbit my jet with the mouse like normal. I tried to use a command called "camera local input layer toggle" to see if that would do anything but it didn't. This started happening to me around the time of the DEC 2023 update. So devs pleas help or fix this issue. FYI I was flying on multithreaded.

Currently the gun cam looks fantastic, but it is hampered by only being able to display to the screen Would love to have an option for it to output to the screenshots folder (kinda how the F-15E does with the TPOD when you hit the record button)

It would be really cool to be able to attach a camera to the currently selected hardpoint/missile, and it follows along however you choose to set it with WASD/QE, like on your plane. I'm imagining a shot of the plane from behind, and as the bombs fall, so does the camera in sync/line with the bomb(s). This is different than just going to Weapons View, because that requires the weapon to have already come off the rail/hardpoint, and makes such a shot difficult/impossible to do.

When I don't have Track-IR booted up when I load in DCS, I am unable to move my camera at all when using Ground Forces with my mouse. Is there a fix for this or does anyone know why? I have no idea why this happens and I really want to fix this issue.

I was able to do it before. I only can use the normal pause and it freezes everything. I am trying to shoot a video but since i cannot pause the game and move my free cam freely, i am not able to do it. Thanks for the help!

This one is definitely sillier but, some time ago maybe 2.7'ish, we used to have the ability to pause then accelerate the F11 free cam to match the speed of the aircraft we are filming. This was super beneficial in creating content as we didn't have to constantly scroll to catch up to the aircraft (for those of us without friends to fly chase plane for us). Would like to see it again some day. Also, the ability to move the camera while padlocked would be super awesome as well. This vid starting at 22:38 help to explain it a bit better:
