Black shark, anything that annoys you ?

hi. i started playing black shark 1. is there anything about this game that annoys you ?

for example, i read on this forum that sometimes your wingmen will crash into you. now that is a big problem.

as for that particular problem is there a command that orders your wingmen to stay a wide distance from one self ?

anything else that annoys you ? thanks.

Yeah sure there is a lot that annoys me about the KA-50, but there is even more that is beyond great! ;-)

 

If your computer is capable enough you should upgrade to the latest version of the KA-50 module in DCS World.

Sure, lots of small stuff, and a few bigger problems. Wingmen AI has never been a DCS strong suit. One moment, they call out targets like crazy, next moment they fly right into the heart of the enemy AD and go like "Two, SAM launch, 7 o'clock. Two, engaged defensive. Two, I'm hit!"

 

So I want them to break off their attack and get the hell out of Dodge (rejoin formation)... "Two, unable. Two, ejecting". Yeah, thanks for nothing, stupid piece of ****.

 

The Georgian Oil War campaign can be very hard and repetitive. The Deployment campaign is overall pretty awesome, but has some very hard missions towards the end that can easily lead to frustration.

 

There's a new campaign for BS2, "Operation Medvedev", which looks pretty good, but I've never finished it.

 

There's no way to communicate with a FAC/JTAC in BS, the only thing that gets close is to combine BS2 with the "Combined Arms" module in DCS World or use a JTAC mod.

 

INU drift is not modeled, so it's completely useless to learn how to update the position with INU fix points (unless you like to do it for the sake of realism).

 

So, yeah, there are a lot of annoying things, some of them specific to BS1, most of them are also true for BS2.

 

That said...

 

Yeah sure there is a lot that annoys me about the KA-50, but there is even more that is beyond great! ;-)

 

There's just no better way to put it. BS is an extremely brilliant simulation of a very special helicopter. I must have spend several hundred hours flying the Black Shark in BS1 and BS2, and except for a few frustrating moments, I've throughly enjoyed every last second of it! :thumbup:

Can't find anything big that annoys me about BS. It has been my favorite of the DCS series since I first flew it.

 

The wingman AI is definitely one that bugs me, but usually I just tell them to RTB and finish the mission alone.

The ADF-Frequency-Button should be corrected... the frequency you choose is always on the oposite side of the button....

 

as said above, the INU-Drift should be modelled...

 

The WIngman-AI sucks... but i dont expected that there something will be done...

 

Apart from that i´m very happy with this module ;-)

I just remembered one more thing: Didn't the new sound engine in 1.0.2 break the engine sounds? IIRC the left engine sound goes dead the instant the right engine is started (or the other way around, not sure right now). Makes cold starts a bit difficult for a lack of audible feedback and is especially bad when the inaudible engine dies of icing or damage because only the gauges will provide feedback.

 

IIRC this was never fixed in BS1 (and was one of the more important fixes in BS2).

In flight my lower rotor almost touches the top rotor on the right hand side of aircraft.

 

It was ok in BS1 then it got messed up and passed off as natural behaviour.

 

It looks so wrong don't know how anyone could believe its normal.

Are the grey plain cockpit textures fixed in BS2? They look like missing textures.

 

The rest of the issues on my mind are common to DCS and not BS-specific.

This was sad thing in BS1, and it is even sadder in BS2, because this lack of drift takes away some things which would be mandatory in MP with human ground commander/FAC.

No RWR, limits your mission posiblities and full war zone is really no go.

 

Shilkas or any radar sam wil rip you out of sky very fast :(

 

The lack of RWR on that aircraft is a big issue for sure. But Shilkas? I don't know what would be the engagement process in real life, but ingame, I eat them for breakfast. That's, of course, if I spot them soon enough :D

I don't really care about INU drift not being modeled—since the satellite navigation system provides regular INU updates anyway

 

It doesn't. Don't forget that there is no bilateral integration of ABRIS. ABRIS knows about satellites and can read helicopter systems, but nor helicopter systems know about ABRIS, nor ABRIS can affect them. INU isn't corrected by satellite data, it is corrected by using preset correction points.

 

There would be some interesting consequences if INU drift was modeled and pilot did not do correction:

a) autopilot would drift away from correct route in route following mode

b) if targets were received via d-link, Shkval would be autopointed to them with errors, same would happen with preplanned or newly created target points.

c) there can only be 4 correction points and they can only be set in mission editor. You can't do corrections wherever you want, and this means that you may need to retreat considerable distance from targets just to do coordinate correction.

d) Drift is proportional to rate and duration of motions. Aggressive flying would probably make the need for corrections more frequent.

I couldn't remember those textures in BS1, but I can say that there's no texture issue in BS2.
