Boberro Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 For pre-alpha it looks ok, interesting what settings have been used and what hardware exactly. To judge general quality better to wait till late beta or pre-release version. Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... Revelation Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 looks ok wtf? In agree! The only people that are saying it looks "okay" are things that haven't seen what the original Nevada Beta was like... compufan Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 (edited) Hi, i'm new at this forum, but been reading it for quite a long time. I'm very excited about NTTR and Strait of Hormuz maps, but even more excited about the new graphics engine. The last video looks amazing, especially the level of detail of the ground and clouds. I have a couple of questions, though: - Some posts ago someone said that the clouds have been improved a lot since the recording date of this video (October if I'm not mistaken). I understand that now the clouds cast shadows on the ground, which will add a lot of immersion to the simulation. Besides that, the shape and detail of the clouds is also improved? I mean, the "high" layer of clouds looks amazing, i can say that they look photorealistic, but the first layer (the "puffy" ones) looks a little "simple" in detail to me. Don't get me wrong, even at this level of detail they look amazing, but to me they don't look as photorealistic as they could. Is that item improved yet? - When Wags first told us about the Strait of Hormuz map on the official update post, he said that they were hoping to release it on December 2014. Obviously that didn't happen, and I'm not complaining. The thing is that, besides the pics on that post, we haven't seen a video of that map yet, and have seen several videos of the NTTR map. If Strait of Hormuz is so close to being finished, why haven't we seen a video? I repeat, I'm not complaining, just was a little curious about that. Maybe the map is not that close to release date as I thought. - Are there any new features implemented on the graphics engine that we didn't see on the last video (besides the clouds casting shadows)? As far as I can tell, the map and graphics engine look as good as they can get, so maybe the ED team is just killing bugs right now. I want DCS World 2 so much I'm finding it hard to wait this long . I was hoping to be flying the NTTR map as a Christmas present from ED, but that didn't happen. I really hope we all can be doing it by this month. Anyway, thanks ED, without this team the flight simulation genre would be almost dead. We owe you so much just for that  Edited January 2, 2015 by compufan

So far the only pics we saw of SoH was rendered in the Dev Tools not in EDGE. Once NTTR is complete and everything is working as they intended then we should start to see images and videos of SoH in EDGE stream out. - Are there any new features implemented on the graphics engine that we didn't see on the last video (besides the clouds casting shadows)? compufan Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 (edited) I believe they said Winter 2014 for Hormuz. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=129972 You're absolutely right. I just read 2014 and went nuts . Anyway, we've seen videos of NTTR from almost a year ago, and none of Strait of Hormuz. I'm just curious about that difference on the number of updates and news between those two maps. Even on the pics it looks like it's on a pretty advanced state. NTTR has been the test bed for map design using EDGE(new engine). So far the only pics we saw of SoH was rendered in the Dev Tools not in EDGE. Yeah, I got confused because of the date thing. I was under the impression that both maps were going to be released very close to each other. Your words make perfect sense, I guess now that the SoH map hasn't even being ported to EDGE. Thanks for clearing that up. Edited January 2, 2015 by compufan
leafer Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 I'm going to see what's new with weather first thing. Hopefully heavy rain or heavy turbulence flight gets a lot more realistic/interesting in terms of visual, sound and control. Then I'll sight see, strafe and repeat. ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P

Hopefully heavy rain or heavy turbulence flight gets a lot more realistic/interesting in terms of visual, sound and control. Then I'll sight see, strafe and repeat. That was my plan too. In fact, I would love to see a video of EDGE showing its visual capabilities under different types of weather conditions. Hope to see a video that shows that before release date. So far we've only seen sunny days and some clouds. The other thing I definitely want to see is effects like explosions, fire and smoke. And also want to see some low altitude flying through a city (Las Vegas would be nice). The pics of cities made with the terrain editor already look really nice, I can't imagine how incredible they will look on EDGE.

compufan Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 Is there going to be any kind of improvement on the Black Sea map? I understand that it wont benefit of the full potential of EDGE since it was not made with the new tools, but I guess that only counts for things that would require some work on the map or do it from scratch (like terrain mesh detail, new textures, etc). Maybe those things will remain unchanged after release of DCS World 2, but maybe the sky will look better, the clouds may cast shadows, the new effects like fire, smoke, etc will be better, general lighting (direct and indirect), things like ambient occlusion, etc. I don't know, I know it has been said that for now the map won't benefit from EDGE, but I found it hard to believe that we wont see any kind of improvement, since it will be rendered with a completely new graphics engine. Because of that I believe that at least it will look different.
cichlidfan Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 ...I know it has been said that for now the map won't benefit from EDGE,... I don't recall that ever being said. compufan Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 I don't recall that ever being said. I do recall several statements along these lines. Doh, you're right. I don't know where I got that idea, maybe from a post from another user. Didn't read that particular line from Wags. This makes perfect sense, since things like lightining, shadows, shaders, etc, depend on the graphics engine. Anyway, I guess the terrain mesh and all the textures won't see a change on the Black Sea map for a while (if ever). I usually like the "green" maps over the "desert" ones, that's why I was asking, since both NTTR and SoH are mainly deserts.

What makes you think that? Not long ago the estimated release date was late 2014. I know that everything is subject to change, but if they thought that they could release it on 2014 makes me believe that they are really close. I just hope that it won't take too long, but I'll wait like everyone else. PS: It would be nice to see more updates and videos from ED about DCS World 2 and NTTR map, since they are almost done. It think it would be a good business decision, to advertise their product. Just saying :music_whistling:
