Will there be PBR Textures in 2.0?

 

Will there be support for PBR Textures, like Substance files, in 2.0?

It would be awesome to be able to create procedural grime and damage in texture packs.

 

(And Substance Painter was ridiculously cheap over the Steam sale)

We hope to release DCS World 2 in early 2015. This is not a promise but simply our best estimate given the current development status as of December 2014. We also cannot promise that each feature listed above will make it into the initial release.

 

Also note that currently the orthodox christian holidays are underway and the team will most likely be on hiatus until next week.

BTW...I just noticed last night the nice looking "glass reflections" and "shadows on cockpit glass" in the latest version of DCS. Very very nice. I then also noticed the reflection of the yellow handles in the cockpit glass of the A-10C in the edge video posted by wags. Great job ED. Neat touches. :)

I think clouds are still WIP. I was checking out ASX for FSX with the detailed weather modelling and stuff. Man!! I don't think even DCS 2.0 will be that open for modders to plug in real life weather modelling. But the possibility would be awesome. I think EDs aim would be to build a community as big as the FSX one for DCS. It would be nice if the community can model more graphics/physics in the upcoming engine.

I'd rather ED do it, but that's just me.

 

I agree that ED should do it. While I do like the FSX idea of a huge community with lot of mods/options. I think it is a bit too much. Some addons are crazy crazy expensive. They may offer good things..but just hard to comprehend spending $50 on a weather engine for a game that I bought for $5 on steam. I guess it is a double edged blade as with many things in life. Pros and cons.

Rather the community do it aka modders and like fsx does, as that frees up the devs for bigger things and the Addons makers focus on just that one item. Weather, clouds terrain whatever and get super obsessed and have no time crunchs and bring nothing but uber quality

But they already have all that in DCS, they only need to adjust for EDGE and future maps.

I would like a fully rendered earth like FSX has. I read some where there are chances of full earth don't remember where i read.

 

The clouds in video are really nice. As FSX has 2D images for clouds while we have volumetric and these are still WIP.

my hope is, that one day, we hear an announcement of a 3rd party dev team, which solely focuses on building maps.i know that ED had lots and lots of work to build EDGE and thats why we are waiting that long, but i think that even if EDGE is done, the waiting for new maps will be long.and that although already some third parties like VEAO announced to build maps as well.

would be awesome to get new maps every few months.with the possibilty of EDGE to stick maps together, we could end up with at least big chunks of our planet. i know im dreaming.

a real dream would be if they make it possible to have a complete earth sized ground that anyone can just add mesh/ground textures etc to it.

Something like in FSX where you can add mesh for specific areas or even all of the planet -(atleast i remember doing that with FS2006 , was about 50GB with reasonable resolution of SRTM)

this is maybe a damn stupid question, but will EDGE be a regular (free) update to DCS World?! Or will it require a complete new install (what would kill all Mods most likely)?!

Not a stupid question, just been asked many times.... its a free update. What it will do to mods... dunno. I wouldnt hold my breath on some of them though...

I myself look very forward to what the modders will do to dcs 2.0 once it's released. So much more epic ness will come out with the highly talented modders this community has!

I have no problems updating but wondering for others who use mods, older PC's etc ?

 

It's "optional" as in your don't update and stay on whatever version was released prior but you won't get any updates or fixes.

ok, here's a really stupid question because I guess I already know the answer. Can I have different versions of DCS World installed and not lose activations? My friend likely won't be able to play DCS World 2.0 since his video card doesn't support DX11 but I'd like to play with him online using DCS World 1.2.??. Of course, I'd want V2.0 installed as well for me.
