Hi Guys,

I am interested in CA,

is it any good in current state for SP?

Is there campaign for SP?

or this module is mainly for MP?

Please let me know your opinion.

Personally, I think it's for very limited situations via multiplayer.

It feels like an un-finished, un-polished RTS game.

I tried to use it in single player, and it was more frustrating than anything. Also, the current terrain really makes you NOT want to be at ground level. I'd hold off and see if ED ever actually takes this anywhere.

I use it mostly for MP, some SP stuff is ok but its just really satisfying getting kills in MP using Iglas or radar guided missiles and no campaign for SP but there are user made missions available. I say get it now because in the future they are going to do a lot more for this module. Plus itll probs be on sale again soon

CA is good when you just want to mess around and have fun. I enjoy it, but not in the same way I enjoy DCS: A-10C. Sometimes I want to play DCS seriously. Sometimes I just want to drive an Abrams off the roof of an apartment building.

CA needs good mission design as well, although I use it a lot in single player just to help out if ground forces do anything I dont want them to do...

Fully agreed on this. The Georgia Hammer campaign is much more playable with CA. I wish they were all CA-enabled, even if it was just to give me the ability to help the AI out.

As soon as they find a way to make AI ground units communicate like EWACS then it's a+ , then amphibious vehicles, boats, artillery, trees, fences, to make a nice mission.

I use it as a sandbox; building what-if scenarios and testing unit capabilities. I will be building missions eventually but right now I am seeing how the pieces work. IMO, if you use CA to help you build missions - you will make better missions.

When I played CA as a game I realised that all the elements are there but a lot more work is required to get everything working properly. It makes me want to mod and script it into a better shape BUT the API is just not extensive enough for that.

So what should be in CA 2.0?

That is a huge subject. While aircraft modules are easy to discuss, discussions about CA always devolve into a dozens/hundreds of piecemeal feature requests and dozens of grand and impossible wishes.

It would actually be useful to split CA into separate modules just to make discussions easier

ED could split CA into

The CMANO interface could be a base for all sorts of commanding and managing sub-modules including carriers and air-wings and the GU module would be a base for sub-modules for individual ground units and groups of ground units up to the battery level.

I added CA to Decks Troop drop example missions. A bit of Arty and some tanks make these missions so much more achievable:music_whistling:

thanks Guys for all the replies.

are there videos showing CA in current state after latest update?

I have looked at youtube, but mostly are old videos.

it is only $6 now,

is it worth it?

IMHO CA hasn't changed significantly, so 'old' CA video's still give a good flavour of gameplay mechanics.

CA is one of those modules where the idea is good but the mechanics and gui just keep getting in the way.

After getting your first couple of aircraft modules CA is well worth considering in a sale (just don't expect the gameplay of warthunder tanks, etc. as DCS's engine is old/wasn't designed for that).

I think I've 30+ hr's messing with CA which is good value for your $6.

On its own , no. But alongside other modules , definately. Being able to correct AI mistakes on the ground and direct other flights to targets is a must -have

This. I'm currently playing the Goergian Hammer with CA and it is much much better experience. You're no longer at the mercy of the fix AI waypoints, but can redirect them as you see fit. You can keep your CAP nearby and order them to attack those pesky migs (but you need to change the visibility of the red flight in ME to do this easily), you can assign all the CAS flight to focus on the area you need cleared...etc...

You can order your grond troops to stop.. find a different path, concentrate artillery fire, re-assing all your AA units to cover the important units...etc.

I think it is worth the $6.

ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P

I just picked it up since I suspect it will come in handy for moving/deploying the future CV task forces...

I only use it for ordering dudes around to cap airports and such in some of our missions. Totally uninteresting to me as a tank sim or anything. I play arma for that stuff.

That said, I do know a guy who actually plays CA more than he flies planes these last few months so it must hold something for guys like him.

Current standard for armored combat swimming is steel beasts pro se.

Which has zero relevance to this topic.

We don't know that, the OP never stated WHY he is interested in CA. :-)

None the less, to answer the OP question directly, yes IMHO it is definitely worth it @$6. I myself am looking ahead to hornet ground ops integration and maybe cv task force control.

Happy New Year.

Happy New Year.

Well as Steel Beasts has nothing to do with DCS, and the thread title was "CA in current state, is it any good for SP?" I dont see how pointing out any other sim/game would be relevant?

Its as about as relevant as saying Pac man is the best ghost eating game... doesnt tell him anything about CA's current state and its use in single player...

I hope that makes my statement clearer for you... and a Happy New year to you as well... ;)

As others, I don't use CA to occupy ground vehicles but to direct them to where I want them to go. In MP, the few times I was in a mission with friends PvP, it made the battlefield a lot more alive when both sides directed their ground troops to accomplish a mission.

Instead of relying on a mission builder to direct ground forces in a pre-determined way - or as most missions do, just have them as static targets in an area, you're free to move them as you so wish.

I bought CA some time ago for its potential and to support ED. I'm still waiting for that module to blossom, a little bird told me it's gonna be for 2015/16 :)
