Nice update. It's good to know that Leatherneck Simulations is doing well and that this business model is allowing for some growth.

I think DCS could become a "hub" for flight sim developers, that will find here the tools to build their sims and find some follow-up as well, that they wouldn't be able to find elsewhere or before this.

Looking at the LN team of devs, probably there are a lot of talented people out there who also share the same passion for aviation, who would not have been able to show reveal themselves a few years ago, much less make a living out of it.

LOL I wonder if Cobra's saying "Oh crap they found that picture I used!"

Pretty much the only thing up for discussion anymore on at least one of the planes in development is what version of Tomcat we're getting.

"Hurled headlong flaming from the ethereal sky; With hideous ruin and combustion down;
To bottomless perdition, there to dwell; In adamantine chains and penal fire"

I hope its an F-14A, i want an early version, so that it's not too OP against the mig-21, i'll be a back seat driver RIO if anyone wants to fly front seat :D

There is no point of making an f-14 for this theatre the "fleet defender" would be out of its place in the caucasus. The same with the MIG-25. These planes were designed to cover enormus distances and take down foes at a great distance at high altitude nothing fancy. To use these planes you would need six time of the area as we have now and quite a programming for carrier landing.

If only someone was creating a map that included a large sea area, working carriers and a large desert area to fly over........................ ;)

How To Successfully Get Launched Off A Carrier At Night In A F-14 Tomcat

http://foxtrotalpha.jalopnik.com/how-to-successfully-get-launched-off-a-carrier-at-night-1686205138

Maybe we need a full-featured carrier in dcs and who want to be Flight Deck Coordinator?

This blog is very interesting, I've added it into my bookmark.

Although google reader have gone for many years and I didn't find a new RSS platform to instead it until now.

Sad story, LOL

I don't think it's a question of how they were used in real life, but more of a question of what their actually capable of doing, regardless of design intent.

having the correct theater or proper carrier landing capability in DCS has nothing to do with what the plane can or can't do. wouldn't be flying the mig-21 online much if that were the case.

The Caucasus map is only a starting point of DCS. I think for Nevada and especially the Strait of Hormuz, the Tomcat is a must have for scenarios around the 80's/ early 90's. Since carrier operations are planned and most of the FC3 aircraft (plus the the 21 bis, the Hawk, Uh-1H, Mi-8 are perfectly fitting into this timeframe, it would create amazing options to use this bird on both sides (in the A Version).

Don't worry, D version's RIO have much more work to do. (But maybe it is a little difficult to do it in DCS)

Navy officer won't let them only receive salary and in a daze in the cockpit.

I think if it were ever to see action in multiplayer, they should have the f14 in the list, then have like a mini drop down menu for rio and pilot, and whoever selects pilot first can lock the plane, just to keep crazies or randoms from firing phoenixes everywhere, seeing that the plane is a very lethal weapon the moment the wheels leave the deck. With that being said, I personally think the plane will take a very very long time to make. I hope they update us on it soon, everybody wants to fly a tomcat, and its going to be very hard to counter it "IF" it is released. This teasing has got me going nuts so i felt i had to put my two cents in on here.

Gee, if only we were getting a map where F-14s would be relevant, like the Strait of Hormuz.

As nice as that'd be, and it seriously would be, I'd imagine the US DoD might be more difficult to deal with in that regard because the Super Tomcat had a more modern radar set up.

I'd be placing my money on getting an F-14A+. That also allows for Tomcat vs. Tomcat scenarios with US Navy Tomkitties heading off against Iranian F-14AM Ali-cats.

Reformers hate him! This one weird trick found by a bush pilot will make gunfighter obsessed old farts angry at your multi-role carrier deck line up!

I would guess they (DOD (if they care at all)) would be happier having the newer models/radar modeled so as not to give the Iranians a dirt cheap simulator. Even the D model is relatively old tech these days.

The MiG-25 has nowhere near enough range to cover "enormous distances". The F-14 is a little better but still nothing like the F-15...

Current map is about 940 x 490 km... pretty enormous for just about any fighter on a single tank of gas...

Only way to make the map "small" would be, in my opinion long range strike missions with aerial refueling, it can, indeed be considered not large enough for that.

It covers more than half the span of black sea, so should work fine in a fleet defense scenario.

I had to look up the wiki, I never knew the F-15 had such a longer range that the F-14. Just seems like it should be reversed. That's amazing.

Well the F-15 has the advantage of being able to carry 3 fuel tank and also conformal tanks

the F-14 has just the 2.
