Tomcat did not have the requisite IFF capability mandated by the JFACC to satisfy the rules of engagement to utilize the Phoenix capability at beyond visual range.

never implied a lack of iff, rather the opposite, that the f-14 has iff, but that the current standards were beyond it.

I`m soooo angry at Viggens for being a priority over the Tomcat :D

I`m afraid we won`t see the F-14 before this time next year, but I hope I`m wrong. I think the F-14 is THE most popular jet of all times. So now it`s like having to sit through a painfully long Nickelback concert to finally see ACDC on stage :D

I would like to throw in "F-16C"?! ;)

Ah ok. Looks like Wiki needs an update then.

No, we just need to learn separating facts from interpretation.

The ROEs most likely required to Identify all possible NATO and Coalition aircraft over Iraq.

They were strict.

Wiki does not say why they are that strict.

A lot of possible explanations, other than "F-14 does not have IFF"?

- not compatible with all coalition forces?

- not reliable enough?

- top brass afraid they don't get promoted when they have a blue on blue incident?

- ROE decider did not know the F-14 has an IFF , because he read something on the internet?

:D

F-15 has NCTR so it can identify a contact (as long as enemy flies different planes than friendlies) even if contacts IFF isn't working or its configured wrong.

Apparentlya few AWG-9 sets were modified with NCTR but it was discontinued because it was very expensive and thought unnecessary for a blue water mission where you know the inbound guy is bad from a long way out just by him heading toward the carrier.

All F-14Ds had NCTR (and Link 16)

Wiki's language shouldn't need interpreting, it should unambiguously state facts. WIP and will always be :-)

i hope F14D is also put into consideration.

it after all was the definitive modification of the tomcat, and the ones see usage in OIF, before its retirement.

I am still hyped for the BK90, RB-15f and a ground radar.

TBH, I wasn't hyped about the Viggen. Didn't even wanna buy it. Peer-pressure practically forced me to, though. :music_whistling:

But... now that it's out and I got it... it's okay to release the Tomcat the week after next. Until then I think I'll actually enjoy flying and learning the Viggen. What a great module!

After that, though, my Tomcat hype is really building up to a timely release! :D

Yes,3 years for the complete of F-14 is the minimun

Well, the 3D modelling looks quite finished, we've even seen some videos of it flying, it shouldn't be THAT far away (hopefully). I'm still wishing for a 2017 release... Especially considering how the Viggen came relatively out of the blue.

The hard part is the coding.

That, coupled with EFM and damage modeling are daunting task I'm sure. Also I think there is a carrier and map to be timed with this release if I am correct?

This from their official site... http://www.leatherneck-sim.com/f14/

Theatre & Campaign

The F-14 will ship with a completely new DCS Theatre, perfectly suited for the F-14 and Naval Operations of the era. This new theatre will be available seperately as well, and will be a great addition to the current fleet of available DCS Modules. A full, 20+ mission campaign will ship with the aircraft, allowing the player to undertake a vast array of missions and tasks.
