=Mac= Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 I finally found a few minutes this morning to fly my favorite aircraft: the Huey. It had been a month or so since I flew so when I got in at Lochini and took off, I felt I was flying with an angel. She's such a wonderful thing to fly, now. The sounds, the visuals, the flight dynamics, all of it is my dream machine! Thank you so much BST and ED! The Hornet is best at killing things on the ground. Now, if we could just get a GAU-8 in the nose next to the AN/APG-65, a titanium tub around the pilot, and a couple of J-58 engines in the tail...
SFC Tako Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 I didn´t fly the Huey for a couple of months and when I got back to it - had the exact same experience like you. It´s AAAWESOME!!! :pilotfly: My Semi-Pro Youtube Channel
Yurgon Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 No matter how often or how rarely I fly it, the Huey is always fun to fly and easily somehwere near (or at) the top of my personal list of preferred DCS modules.

msalama Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 Yeah, she's a bundle of fun! Flew nothing but her for a year or so  Which is why I'm taking a wee break ATM - flying fixed wing for a change. But I'll get back to her sooner or later, that much is certain... Justificus Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 Aaaannnnnd back on topic. Yes, the Huey is now my favorite ride. I actually bought the module in 4/'13 and never flew it until the end of last year due to life issues and such. I instantly fell in love once I got a little handle on her. As much as I've enjoyed the other modules I have, Ka-50, F-86, Mig-21, FC3, A-10C, the UH-1H calls to me the most and is what I've spent the most time with since getting back into DCS a few months ago... It's what is motivating me to learn my way (how ever minutely) around the ME so I can build missions for myself to play and practice with. Anyone who has played with the ME knows just what an intense learning curve that can be, and despite how chaotic my life is and how little time I have, I'm still trying to muck my way about with it so I can fly my Huey the way I want. :D 1 Justificus System Specs:i7 4970K @ 4.8, GTX 1080 SC, 32GB G.Skill DDR 2133,Thermaltake Level 10 Full Tower Case, Noctua NH-D15 6 Cooler, Win 10 Pro, Warthog, CH Pro Pedals, CH Throttle Quadrant, Oculus, 1 32" & 2 19" Monitors Modules Owned: A-10C I+II, Ka-50, FC3, F-86, Mig-15, Mig21, UH-1H, Mi-8, CA, P-51D, BF-109K-4, FW-190 D-9, Hawk, NTTR, M-2000C, SA342, F-5E, Spit Mk. =Mac= Posted March 24, 2015 Author Posted March 24, 2015 I'm like Justificus: I want to create missions specifically for me. As it stands right now, I have some racing pylons leading a trail around Krasnodar city and fly the streets (!) without rising above 100 feet or leaving the asphalt. (Nor hitting busses or trucks!) Doing Las Vegas in Edge will be a career killer for me: I'll never go back to work! The Hornet is best at killing things on the ground. Now, if we could just get a GAU-8 in the nose next to the AN/APG-65, a titanium tub around the pilot, and a couple of J-58 engines in the tail...
Fakum Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 This is interesting!! I fly the Blackshark, just recently got into the Huey,,, I must be doing something wrong indeed! I can bearly get off the ground in the Huey,,, I try no trim, I try to pre trim,, as soon as I lift off, I am going all over the place, I cant simply get the skids off the ground and slowly go forward straight? Its been a weird stuggle. I have no problems with the Black shark? Derk Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 The main difference is that the blackshark has a co-axial rotor system wich eliminates torque, while the huey requires direct control input from the pilot through the rudder pedals to counter the torque produced by the main rotor with the - wait for it - counter-torque rotor (tailrotor). So it is a bit harder to control in a hover or speeds under its transitional lift treshold due to the extra input needed. It has nothing against you in person. ;) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Home Fries Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 (edited) Don't forget that the Shark also has the autopilot system that dampens control inputs, making it like a "fly by wire" helicopter. The Huey is direct control via hydraulics. Stick with the huey, and just practice hovering and taxiing. After about 4 hours of practice, the proverbial lightbulb should turn on and you'll "get it". You'll also find that flying the Huey makes you a better stick in the Shark, especially when you lose your autopilot channels. I've found that I can control the Shark without the autopilot channels, and sometimes I don't even realize they're out until I execute a violent maneuver. Auger73 Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 I really like the Huey, and it is the liveliest DCS helo, and the closest to the R-22 I had a lesson in IRL. But I have to say I prefer the Mi-8 over the Huey, as it feels a little more tamed and smoother, yet still lively. The Shark feels a bit sterile in comparison - although the systems are what make it interesting.

Fakum Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 I'm well aware of the difference between the Huey and the Blackshark,,, I had to respond because the comments regarding how easy the Huey is to fly is a bit misleading,,, if you have flow both, you know its a walk in the park compared to flying the Huey! I dont disagree that I will have to put some hours into it to get settled, but its certainly not a breeze,, if it were I wouldn't be struggling,, you want to talk about breeze,, now taking off with the Blackshark,, now thats something you can call a breeze in comparison,, by a long shot! I just figured maybe I had something turned off or on I shouldn't,,, guess that is not the case,, practice practice practice,, ten comes the breeze! b00ce Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 I think that the huey is leagues easier to fly than the blackshark.
