Pineapple Pete Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 Hi All, I find that I do not care for the ergonomics of my CH Pro Rudder Pedals. They just feel wrong to me. Also, I have not been able to find the sweet spot in the axis tuning to be anywhere near smooth in taxiing. I have been trying when I can, just to practice taxiing the TF-51 and I am now ready to start blaming the rudder pedals, Any insights about which rudder pedals you like would be greatly appreciated. Just as a final thought I am still a full time pilot with over 16,000 hours and was even privileged to fly a beautiful DC-3 for a while, So, I know a little bit about how this is supposed to work. But, simming is a different world. Many thanks, Steve It is always best to not fly too fast or fly too slow. So I fly half fast. :D
Svend_Dellepude Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 Take a look in the input/output section. There are a few threads about rudder pedals there. You should find what you're looking for. And BTW, I have CH rudder pedals too and i don't like them either for the same reason, but not only taxiing. Yurgon Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 I have no RL experience, but here's what I had for PC sims: - Thrustmaster RCS - Saitek Pro Flight Pedals - DHS Simpeds - MFG Crosswinds And the MFG Crosswinds are definitely the best of all of them, with the Simpeds at a solid 2nd place, and the rest... the rest I would consider a temporary workaround. (Unfortunately, DHS is out of business, there are no new Simpeds). See here for MFGs: http://mfg.simundza.com/ (And no, Milan doesn't pay me for advertising, I'm just a very happy customer :D )

Chief1942 Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 Pineapple Pete, I think you can discern from the responses that many of us have already been down the road you find yourself on. Rudder pedals are not just an adjunct to these quality flight models that DCS has provided us, they are an absolute necessity in my opinion. Like many, I have pretty much run the gamut of what was available over the years in the form of rudder pedals. I now own and use the MFG Crosswinds, and find them to be far superior to ANYTHING I have spent good money on, to date. And like Yurgon, not on Milan's payroll, just saying it like I see it. Your mileage may vary. In general I am not very happy with the CH products but I am learning to make the Fighterstick and Pro Throttle work. (Haven't figured out the mini joystick on the throttle yet but I am a bit dense with these things. Regards, Steve It is always best to not fly too fast or fly too slow. So I fly half fast. :D

agrasyuk Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 i will add a very good word for Slaw's pedals: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC-SzONP5_MK-P2OgTCgCMAQ i got lucky enough to get the F16 model and cannot think of any way to improve it much further. i am not sure if i like it more with or without the hydraulic damper add-on unit however. i don't doubt the composite material used in MFG pedals providing sufficient strength for the construction. but it's still not steel/alum . i am not sure how many units Slaw can produce however, and how long is his waiting list. I agree with you. I heard for Slaw Device pedals. They are also very good. As far as I know if somebody wants to buy quality sim pedals there are those two options MFG and Slaw. Here is comparison of one person who bought both pedals. http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/3977757/Slaw_VS._Milan_the_battle_of_t#Post3977757 *NOB* Lucky [SIGPIC][/SIGPIC] Tko vrijedi leti, tko leti vrijedi, tko ne leti ne vrijedi
Lemon Lime Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 (edited) Since 2007 I use VKB Mk.15 rudder pedals and I'm completely satisfied. But I'm not sure if they still produce this family and if they ship it to Europe and US. On their european website I found only T-rudder model. NeilWillis Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 I'd definitely recommend anyone looking at changing up their rudder pedals from the entry level stuff to take a very good look at the MFG Crosswind pedals. Robust, highly accurate, and with an excellent finish. Add to that the ability to change the whole feel of the pedals by swapping cams and spring tension, they cover all the bases. Modern jets, WW2, WW1, or rotary wing. I waited a long time for mine, and they have been an excellent investment.
JPS2K Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 What I dislike (well it's a strong word but I have no other) about Slaw is his 'inaccessability'. Apparently he has a FB page, but I don't do FB. All one can do is email him. If I want to buy something, I want to look at it and stuff. I want to see a price and how long it will take. On a website, with specs, regularly updated, whatever....

AlphaOneSix Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 How well do the MFG Crosswinds work with your heels on the floor? I've been considering a pedal purchase, but I fly (IRL) with my heels on the floor (like all pilots) and I do not care at all for pedals that require me to put my entire foot on the pedal. SO basically I'm interested in pedals that would work with that requirement in mind.

Well it takes about two minutes to adjust them (and a recalibration in the software) so it should be easy to set them up to your liking. Personally, I prefer to rest my feet on the pedals so I can't say anything about the ergonomics with heels on the floor, but it looks like it should work pretty good.

SO basically I'm interested in pedals that would work with that requirement in mind. The ability to cant the pedals near horizontal means you can rest you feet on the pedals comfortably. Using them with your heels on the floor is possible, but they have a full range of motion, so it's a bit unwieldy. Additionally, they have a lip, so it'd be uncomfortable to do so barefoot. And of course you would not be able to use the toe brakes.
AlphaOneSix Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 Well, even in aircraft with toe brakes, the feet are only completely on the pedals when using the brakes...in flight the heels are on the floor. I kind of get the feeling that while there are some really great pedal setups out there for sims, none of them are actually realistic when compared to what is actually used in a real aircraft.

Not "all pilots" fly like that. models with all-foot-peals do exist, the BF109 for example Slaw's are quite realistic too if by realistic you mean heels on the floor. Anton. My pit build thread . Pineapple Pete Posted May 27, 2015 Author Posted May 27, 2015 Well, I looked at the Crosswinds and although I was tempted, I am after all, a casual gamer. So, I went for the Saitek Pro Pedals. What a measurable difference over the CH Pedals. Thanks for input everyone. Regards It is always best to not fly too fast or fly too slow. So I fly half fast. :D
AlphaOneSix Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 Slaw's are quite realistic too Yep, that's what I'm looking for, thanks.
Pineapple Pete Posted May 28, 2015 Author Posted May 28, 2015 Again. thanks for all the input which I received about my quest for better pedals. I looked with longing at the Crosswind pedals but since I just a casual gamer, I just couldn't justify the cost. I went today to Fry's and purchased the Saitek Pro Pedals and after installation and a quick circuit or two in TF-51 I think I have found what I am looking for. To this point I am much happier with them over the CH pedals. Steve aka Pineapple Pete (named after my Dad"d WWII B-17) It is always best to not fly too fast or fly too slow. Cali Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 I've had CH and now I have Saitek combat pedals and the only difference is the width. Other then that I can't tell the difference. I don't think there is a need to pay $250+ for pedals. My CH pedals were $100 and the Saitek were $172. i7-4820k @ 3.7, Windows 7 64-bit, 16GB 1866mhz EVGA GTX 970 2GB, 256GB SSD, 500GB WD, TM Warthog, TM Cougar MFD's, Saitek Combat Pedals, TrackIR 5, G15 keyboard, 55" 4K LED
