msalama Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 Ahem... so this is the chitchat section, right? Meaning even Sith, our dark lord, doesn't jump on me like a ton of ton-sized things if I go chitty-chatty here? Yeah, thought so ;) So fellas, it's like this. We've got our sims and stuff, and that's extremely important to a red-blooded geezer not having the moolah for, say, a chopper licence and a personal Huey. But when you really get down to it, isn't beer actually even MORE important? Consider this: beer is readily available and it's cheap, so even the poorest of us can afford an occasional tin (well at least when the dole comes in), and what's more, it tends to be drinkable. So am I right - or am I right - when I claim that beer is actually even _more_ important for general male social cohesion and wellbeing than flight sims? Discuss, please. The DCS Mi-8MTV2. The best aviational BBW experience you could ever dream of.
kontiuka Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 did you say "beeer" or "deeer"? rep to the first person who gets that reference.:)
msalama Posted May 30, 2015 Author Posted May 30, 2015 Well sorry to say but I'm too thick to get it. Still, am now seriously considering opening a deeer vs. sims thread as well. PS. Maybe not. The DCS Mi-8MTV2. The best aviational BBW experience you could ever dream of.
msalama Posted May 30, 2015 Author Posted May 30, 2015 Ah-ha, got it. A horned forest critter vs. another denizen thereof with a fearsome slap of paw + some fangs too. A cigar then, please? The DCS Mi-8MTV2. The best aviational BBW experience you could ever dream of.

FlyingHighAU Posted May 31, 2015 Posted May 31, 2015 Important for general male social cohesion and wellbeing To balance out this thread I'm would like to discourage everyone from drinking any form of alcohol. ever. I think alcohol creates a sense of fake social cohesion in the same way that drugs like ecstasy make people think that techno/rave music is good :P While in some sense it keeps the cogs of this style of world turning - it is one of the factors that contributes to a society that is stuck in and even worships mediocrity. It masks the problems of society for a short period of time. It brings relief from your previous week for long enough to get you through your next working week - then it's time for your next drink. Also it is terrible for you, physically and mentally. Most people could probably not care too much about the physical problems, but mentally, the part where your brain can shrink by up to 11% if you a regular drinker - that 11% might be all of your DCS knowledge :D Alcohol related illnesses are the #1 one reason why people are in hospitals in the western world - not guns, not wars, not natural disasters - alcohol. Closely followed obesity and smoking. When you drink alcohol, your body immediately does everything in it's power to remove it from your system. Your body sees alcohol as a poison, or at least as something it doesn't actually want inside it. To fight back, and sober you up, humans produce an enzyme called alcohol dehydrogenase. That enzyme gets its shot at your alcohol when it attempts to pass through the stomach lining, and when it reaches your liver, primarily. On contact, it snatches a hydrogen atom off the ethanol molecules in your drink, rendering it into non-intoxicating acetaldehyde. Humans can then use aldehyde dehydrogenase as a kind of clean-up crew, breaking down the acetaldehyde that's sometimes considered a cause of hangovers, along with dehydration. http://pubs.niaaa.nih.gov/publications/aa63/aa63.htm A lot people take such good care of their cars, wash regularly, check the oil and tyres, and ONLY ever put the best type of fuel in the engines. When it comes to their bodies they fuel up using all sorts of junk. You'd never put in that nitrous oxide into a classic car, so why do it to yourself. Take care of yourselfs and you can double your lifespan - imagine how good DCS will be in 2050 :) *Braces self for the cognitive dissonance responses
NeilWillis Posted May 31, 2015 Posted May 31, 2015 (edited) Maybe beer is a negative in a mediocre society, but it sure as hell makes it look better for a while! Seriously, it has to be said that alcohol in all forms EXCEPT beer are a bane to society, whereas beer is simply the nectar of life. It's origins can be argued to be the very reason civilisation occurred as we know it. Some academics believe that farming came about in order to grow grains to turn into beer. It is also a fact that beer contains some very effective antibiotics, and was drunk in preference to water because water was dangerous to drink in the days before decent sanitation. Some might even say the modern toilet was invented as a place for beer drinkers to go for a break between pints. And as a final little aside, I'd like to get a little controversial. We should be talking about Ales, as beer is merely the lowest form of ale, and don't get me started on lagers which are naturally, the work of the devil, and are obviously what the previous contributor was talking about when he referred to the negative aspects of alcohol in society. Give me a Theakston's Old Peculiar over a Heineken any day! :music_whistling: :music_whistling: :music_whistling: I must confess, I too have the dirty habit of brewing my own - all grain though, and not that awful stuff that comes out of tin cans and has sugar added - so please don't be too harsh with me. NeilWillis Posted May 31, 2015 Posted May 31, 2015 (edited) I was always of the opinion that Whiskey was just a way to drink your Ale faster. The ingredients are exactly the same after all. I compare them like decent coffee - beans ground by hand, then lovingly infused in how water - to instant coffee (whiskey taking the role of the instant coffee naturally). Quicker, tastes vaguely the same if you consume enough, but just not in the same league! Edited May 31, 2015 by NeilWillis
msalama Posted May 31, 2015 Author Posted May 31, 2015 and don't get me started on lagersI respectfully beg to differ as it comes to Czech ang German lagers, because both are yummy. Call911 Posted May 31, 2015 Posted May 31, 2015 Agree why not have some beer while you fly(don't try this @ home fellas) an friends don't let friends fly intoxicated. i've tried to fly the KA that way a time or two an it was'nt pretty :D

Solty Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 Beer and flying don't mix. I flew once after a beer and could see my reactions being slower by 1sec and that made me feel disappointed when I did reversals in scissors way too late. Its infuriating when you just miss an opportunity you would never miss otherwise. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]In 21st century there is only war and ponies. WinterH Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 (edited) I've dropped consumption of booze completely about 1.5 year ago. But I did enjoy the ride during multi decades of more or less regular alcohol consuming career :P. During that period, I did pretty much everything better on a certain level of drink, including coding and flying sims. After that very-easy-to-pass treshold, that doing every thing better thing would quickly gave way to doing them way worse though :P. Anyways, even though I have stopped consuming such beverage, I still appreciate good beer, red wine, whiskey and rakı ;) (guess the last one gives away where I'm from). I've decided to stop using that for a few reasons like health, how much money it silently burn, and the fact that I realized my perception of entertainment / recreation, started to involve alcohol in one way or another, not because I dislike it (I don't :P). During my business related trips to Europe, I've come to really appreciate Belgian beers of many kinds. I also like Irish Stout, which was almost impossible to get a hold on to where I live, until recenty(spoiler : until after I've quit...). Many people don't "like" beer, but drink it for drinking's own sake. I appreciated good, nicely flavoured beer of many kinds, just never quite liked Weissbier :). NeilWillis Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 Beer has it's place, and I for one would never ever ever suggest anyone fly after a skin full. However, some of the best times occur when lubrication relaxes the tensions that modern life brings. The key, as always is balance - and after a few that always gets more difficult! Beer days, and flying days is always the best policy, and ne'er the twain shall meet - and try to fit work in between somewhere too - it helps pay for both vices!

Aginor Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 I like beer. And whiskey. And gin. Not when flying though. ...ah, who am I kidding. One or two beers while flying are ok, but my flying skills don't improve after those two, so two is the limit for me. As for the beers: I am not nationalist, but I prefer a good German beer. :) We have lots of different beers here, and also lots of breweries. It is very sad that many of the small ones are closed now. But there are at least two great Czech beers (from the home of the Pilsner, Plzen). And there are lots of interesting and tasty beers in the small Belgium! It seems they really like beer there. (scale for our American friends: Belgium is about as big as Maryland) If you like a strong taste I recommend Danish beers. And last but not least: Our friends in the UK and Ireland have Guinness and Kilkenny and others. I don't drink those too often, but I enjoy them once in a while. The cool thing about Europe is that all of those are in helicopter range! :) Be careful in Denmark though! Beer is quite expensive there, so you might not be a ble to afford the fuel to fly your helicopter back! (and I won't even mention Norway or Sweden. If you see a drunk man there is must either be a rich man or someone who makes their own beer) :D DCSW weapons cheat sheet speed cheat sheet
Joe Kurr Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 Belgium does have a lot of breweries (over 180) and there's nothing better than a good strong Belgian beer after a day out. Most are quite strong in alcohol, 7 to 11% is normal. So you don't gulp them down like an ale, but enjoy them like a glass of wine. Yurgon Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 Great topic! ;) I love Guinness and I was at awe when I realized it's more expensive in Dublin than it is in the Dublin Inn in my hometown - poor Irish. When I was in Scotland recently I had a few Black Isle and liked them very much. My favorite brand is currently Köstritzer dark beer, and I enjoy a good Weizen every now and then. Of course there are awesome Czech beers as well. As much as I do like beer, I wouldn't wanna miss out on a good Single Malt Whisky every now and then. :)
