Frisco1522 Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 I started to wonder what it will be like once multicrew gets added to DCS when the F-14 comes out. Currently, it looks like (by wagmatt's streams) that when in the cockpit, it will feel like a single player experience but with an invisible crew member at the controls. (He hasn't actually had another person flying his plane atm but I'm speculating here) I wondered how hard it would be to be able to see your RIO/Pilot in the cockpit with you? By this I mean being able to look over your shoulder as the Pilot and see your RIO looking around. Like this ----> (I apologize but it looks like a screen grab from Top Gun is the best I can do) Or for those of you who prefer I explain this with a video... at and at are examples of what i'm trying to say. I'm not saying it needs to be super amazing next-gen screen animation stuff, I would like to at least see the model of the Pilot/RIO looking left and right (like they do now in 3rd person) from the front/back seats to help solidify the F-14 flying experience a little more. Sorry this was a little lengthy... Frisco1522
CheckGear Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 For all its realism, DCS/FC3 exaggerates the ability of the pilot to look over his shoulders. The truth is, the cockpit is cramped and the human body can only scan around a 225 degree arc. DCS/FC3 makes it seem as though you can see nearly 360 degrees around you. I remember Fleet Defender had a view in which you could look at your RIO and his head would move. It was a nice touch to have, especially for a sim of its time.
McBlemmen Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 I imagine it will depend on wether or not you have the "display pilot body" enabled or not. The model turning it's head is already implemented in DCS so i dont see why it wouldn't be in the multiseat modules aswell
Drewa Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Quick tangent. Why can't we use binoculars in DCS. I would imagine for aircraft like the A-10A (maybe even the C), It would be a useful feature. Not on topic at all so sorry, I just had to say it. "Wikipedia is the best thing ever. King_Hrothgar Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 The UH-1 and Mi-8 have crew in all the positions if you turn pilot bodies on. I wouldn't expect other multi-seat aircraft to operate any differently. If you mean will you be able to tell what direction another human in your aircraft is looking, my guess is no. That kind of thing doesn't seem to be attached to pilot animations in DCS currently.

When you switch from one crew seat to another, you will see that the crew member you 'controlled' previously, will still be looking in the direction you have been looking. Also, when looking at another player controlled aircraft from the outside, you can see head movements based on the players viewing direction. So it shouldn't be a problem to implement this feature, as it is possible to implement that into the 3D models of the caracters and the data is available in the netcode. Cobra847 Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Crew members will be visible in the cockpit, and unless you hide it, your own body will be visible as well. Nicholas Dackard Founder & Lead Artist Heatblur Simulations https://www.facebook.com/heatblur/
grunf Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 It would be kinda spooky hearing the RIO talk, then look back only to see an empty seat behind you. :D
Frisco1522 Posted August 26, 2015 Author Posted August 26, 2015 Crew members will be visible in the cockpit, and unless you hide it, your own body will be visible as well. But does this count for human crew members aswell? Frisco1522
ESAc_matador Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 If yo fly with other aircrafts you see them moving their heads....

Proof Posted September 5, 2015 Posted September 5, 2015 I believe he is referencing the streams of the L-39, which also will be multiseat.
vicx Posted September 5, 2015 Posted September 5, 2015 I'm not saying it needs to be super amazing next-gen screen animation stuff, Sorry BUT I think it's going to look totally amazing and next-gen. I've just seen some of the work of the new hire for LN and his work looks sick. Sick as in awesome.
Griffon26 Posted September 5, 2015 Posted September 5, 2015 On Virtual Aerobatics I often thought about a hotkey or something like that where you can make your own pilot giving a salute or a thumps up  to a Wingman like in Arma a food soldier could. particularly for Carrier operations this would be awesome. See here what I mean: That would be a nice gimmick too imo ;) Regards Griffon26 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Never parachute into an area you've just bombed You never have too much fuel, unless you burn.
BlackLion213 Posted September 5, 2015 Posted September 5, 2015 Sorry BUT I think it's going to look totally amazing and next-gen. I've just seen some of the work of the new hire for LN and his work looks sick. Sick as in awesome. I just looked him up too, it would seem that he did the F-14 Pilot. His work looks insanely good, I saw a fully textured Sci-Fi figure as well - quite a thing to behold. If LNS keeps upping the ante with the F-14, we're going to run out of hyperbole trying to describe it. Can't wait! -Nick
CheckGear Posted September 5, 2015 Posted September 5, 2015 Personally, I place a higher priority on having a fully animated "live" flight deck crew.

BlackLion213 Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 Pilot rear view (to RIO) in Microprose Fleet Defender Nice! For some reason this picture struck a chord. I can't wait to see the same view with LNS F-14, EDGE, highly detailed RIO model, and a setting sun during an ocean flight....so awesome. It must be nostalgia, I've been looking at pictures like this for so a long time, ever since I was a young kid. -Nick
