Well, I have beta now. Why isn't 1.5 waiting for me to DL it? lol

The changelogs are often posted in advance. ED is based in Russia and it's the middle of the night at their offices right now, so don't expect it in the nearest hours.

When can I download it?

So, will final 2.0 update the 1.5 open beta or the old one 1.2.16.? I don't think I want both on my pc due to SSD space.

I just asked this a page or two back. You have to have the beta version to update to 1.5 when it's ready.

Can't you just use the dcs updater to update release version to 1.5 beta via cmd?

Sure, but I wouldn't.

Because if it's unstable, as a beta may be, you're then going to have to downgrade it and hope and hold you're breath that it gets you something that will work again.

I know the changelog is exciting, but please guys, make sure you remember to breath, I think some of you are experiencing hypoxia ;)

Can you use a larger font size? Because I can't read with blurred vision from lack of oxygen :D

Would you mind expanding on why you wouldn't? I ask because I was planning to do this.

In general, I wouldn't because I would always want to maintain a working non-beta version due to potential issues with the Open Beta.

This is just even more true with this particular version since it is packed with so many far reaching changes. Especially given ED's own hesitation in releasing it.

Thanks, thats a good point. For me I've never had to downgrade from beta and I can't see myself going back to 1.2.16.. :D so I guess I'll just cross my fingers..

Thanks for your reply, you are definitely correct there and it's the safest way to avoid issues..

In the changelog, it seems that there is no mention about the new mig-21 exterior model. So once upon the release, can we use old customized liveries or we have to update them

This. There's no going back. I'll live with some instability if I have to. :joystick:

Edit: for those curious about the process, it's a simple command line that took about 2 minutes to run (this is on a very fast internet connection and SSD... YMMV.) Open Beta and Release are currently the same version number, so there's very few changes required. Just flew a few quick missions, and all is good.

Run this from your \bin directory wherever you've got the game installed:

dcs_updater.exe update openbeta:1.2.16.43180

As for the status of releasing the 1.5 Open Beta, we have good news: we created the 1.5 branch (release version) today. Just as soon as we complete smoke testing, we will release it.

FYI. Just in case one wants to know what Smoke testing (software) is. Here is a link...

Exciting news for sure. Quick question guys, I've recently migrated away from STEAM and become a big boy using the direct ED version of DCS. I plan on installing the beta 1.5 version alongside my current DCS. This will be the first time I've had parallel beta and current versions. Can anyone tell me, will this require me to have to install all my 3rd party missions (i.e. Maple Flag), custom kneeboards and inputs all over again into the beta? Thanks in advance. Jason

The beta uses a separate folder for missions and options, so yes, you need to install again.

So sorry if I missed something but...

Will uninstalled DCS 1.2.16, mainly because I was having some issues with it. I could reinstall it right now, but will I be able to download the 1.5 beta by itself without requiring the previous version? It seems like a pretty massive change, it'd make sense to me that you wouldn't need to have a game installed that runs on a completely different engine.
