DCS World 1.5 and 2.0 Discussion

Exciting news for sure. Quick question guys, I've recently migrated away from STEAM and become a big boy using the direct ED version of DCS. I plan on installing the beta 1.5 version alongside my current DCS. This will be the first time I've had parallel beta and current versions. Can anyone tell me, will this require me to have to install all my 3rd party missions (i.e. Maple Flag), custom kneeboards and inputs all over again into the beta? Thanks in advance. Jason

Is there a benefit to using the non steam version? Something generally bad about using the steam version?

This. There's no going back. I'll live with some instability if I have to. :joystick:

Edit: for those curious about the process, it's a simple command line that took about 2 minutes to run (this is on a very fast internet connection and SSD... YMMV.) Open Beta and Release are currently the same version number, so there's very few changes required. Just flew a few quick missions, and all is good.

Run this from your \bin directory wherever you've got the game installed:

dcs_updater.exe update openbeta:1.2.16.43180

Ok, would you mind a quick tutorial on how to do that? I've never done it and want to make sure I don't take 3 hours to do it or screw it up. lol

I switched to standalone a year ago and I haven't looked back.

I think the question to ask is the opposite. Is there any benefits to using steam version?

The sales would be one answer but it would seem that ED has more frequent and better sales (I might be wrong?).

The benefits as I see them:

*No need for steam to actually run DCS.

*Steam doesnt get ED money for being in the way. (principle)

*Steam-key delay

ect. ect.

Cuba and Vietnam are not in the list of new countries :(

Syria, Egipto, Iraq, Croatia, Vietnam, Serbia AND Cuba are the only countries in this world that take the Mig-21 in long campaign wars.

Cuba is probably the only country that use the Mig-21 as CAS task in the Cuito Cuanabale Battle with very good success.

All the European countries excepting Croatia and Serbia, all the rest never use the Mig-21 in real combat and never have take part in a modern scenery war.

Many new countries have been added. These countries are not yet populated with units, although they have access to all static object and fortifications objects available, along with aircraft that are DCS modules. These countries include: Austria, Belarus, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, China, Croatia, Finland, Greece, Hungary, India, Iran, Iraq, Japan, Kazakhstan, North Korea, Pakistan, Poland, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Slovakia, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, Syria, and USAF Aggressors. These countries are also added to the logbook with a few already populated with ranks and squadrons.
Now, if they'd add Vietnam, Laos, Thailand and Cambodia. DCS: Vietnam anyone?

Yeah, everything is unified now.

Does that mean I can edit my controls while in multiplayer?

Prolly answered too, but, what about Steam? I thought it was going to be released as a regular version. Or do I need to change it to Open Public Beta on the game properties?

Not even the moderators on steam discussion boards are sure at the moment, we will just have to find out once it comes out. Its possible it may be delayed coming out on steam.

I guess technically the smoke test might not go over well either, I'd cross my fingers but I don't want to jinx it :P

Great news...nice job...thx ED team

just has a issue about Device Profiles..

Once DCS 1.5 release .that need to be re-bulid again?or Can I still use the current profiles...?

I'm sure that the profiles will continue to work... what might not carry over though would be your settings in saved games, but the beta actually is using a different folder now then the standard non beta one, so it should be fine.

Congratulations Ed, again, been since demo version of Su-27 Flanker, -1.0 ! 1995 !

I remember the biggest thing in community back then was release of 1.5 !

Years later, same event was upon receiving Flanker 2.5 !

Now another .5 premiere is coming, this will be big !
