WinterH
Can the Gazelle carry rockets+gun and the TV visor at the same time? I mean scan for targets with the camera and then attack with rockets and gun. As far as I know, yes and no. Yes, as in the SA-342L with gun and rocket capability we will get, does have an optical sight, not sure but I think the same one as upcoming BO-105 will have. No part is : it is not the Viviane we have in current SA-342M variant. I think viviane has low light capabilities with it's IR mode, and I guess has some more magnification capability too. Apparently, at least according to ever-so-reliable wikipedia :), SA-342L can also carry HOT missiles, but don't know if the one we are getting will be able to use those too, or if even the info on wiki regarding this is correct at all. If it is though, SA-342L would be a fully contained light attack helicopter itself, even if not as capable as SA-342M we currently have against more threatening target types or in more adverse weather / low light. Personally I am very excited in strafing some convoys and troop concentrations with 20mm and rockets, putting Gazelle's nice handling to use with putting that pipper where it needs to be :). Stratos
I see, shame about that low light capability and magnification. Having the Viviane would have let the pilot to scan in low light conditions before engaging the enemy. Edited May 20, 2016 by Stratos I don't understand anything in russian except Davai Davai! Mt5_Roie
Vivian is the fancy camera with IR capabilities and also the ability to direct the HOT3 missile. The L version will have just the TV component of it, so no HOT3 missile capabilities for that. I see, shame about that low light capability and magnification. Having the Viviane would have let the pilot to scan in low light conditions before engaging the enemy. Mt5_Roie
It has the TV module, but not IR, nor the capability to guide a HOT3 Missile. For anti tank fun, use the M version. BaD CrC
That's gonna be a good opportunity to work as a team of L and M models together. Very exciting for MP. Even though the Viviane sight is huge and heavy, it really is great to use to spot even the tiniest manpads guy that used to take us all out by surprise before. I thought the BO-105 is equipped with the same low tech sight than the 342L, and yet, it shows it can fire HOT? https://www.blacksharkden.com http://discord.gg/blacksharkden
MBot
It looks like the older optical periscope sight could also guide HOT:

Santaklaus
Hi, First, thx a lot for video. I'm surprise by the sound of 20mm canon. I used it many time, in ground army version (it's almost the same, longer tube and shell...) and the sound is more bass in real, reverberation is very too much présent too. My 2 cents... Have fun Edited May 25, 2016 by Santaklaus
Kamov Akula
Isn't this actually the 342L1 "Viviane"? The only reason I ask is because the optics turret on the Gazelle on the products page looks just like the one on the Viviane variant. Those optics are supposed to have night vision and laser painting for 3rd party targeting (ie not just for its own missile targeting-much stronger I think for weapons much further away to "see" it...) and makes it an excellent forward recon vehicle. I think the addition of a good recon vehicle would add another dynamic to multiplayer battles.. I'm buying this either way, just wanted to whet my appetite with more information... A good view of the optics on the Viviane... https://milinme.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/2712.jpg EDIT; OK this has been discussed on a previous page (hard to go through them all) but leaving this up as vote YES for the Viviane version if it's still possible now or in the future. Also a worthy recon vehicle will really be cool for multiplayer, especially on the games that have labeling turned off (which is most games) and you have to actually search with your eyes. Imagine if you can uplink (or at least radio) coordinates or even better, laze a target for a plane that's couple miles high, and at night? The planes above will actually start to respect choppers! :) EDIT 2!!! (Reading other comments, and visited Polychop site....) Ok I'm a little confused now, is the DCS version the Viviane or the M? If its the versions with Viviane optics, is it fully functional to real life or limited? Edited May 25, 2016 by Kamov Akula
myHelljumper
Current gazelle is the SA-342M Viviane. Viviane does not have lasing capabilities other than a ranging laser. HOT3 missiles are wire guided ATGM and does not require a laser too be pointed at the target. Kamov Akula
Ok I was mixing up between the M and L versions when they in fact both have types with the Viviane optics. Well bummer about the lazing, swear i read that somewhere...I thought it was pretty solid info like from Jane's or something..could have been the rangefinder that I read but tucked it away in my brain-file as something a lot more..but it does have night vision and the magnification etc? myHelljumper
Yup, magnification and IR. I think the Viviane sight is only mounted on M versions, the L ones have another, smaller, optic. I could be wrong here. Helljumper - M2000C Guru Helljumper's Youtube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCK3rTjezLUxPbWHvJJ3W2fA
Mt5_Roie
You are indeed correct. The Vivian on the M version has IR and also the guidance capabilities for the HOT3. The L version will have a TV and a Sony Walkman to keep the commander entertained. Yup, magnification and IR. Poly_Phil
I withnessed the C20 from GIAT fire as well in real life, I agree with you that the current sound is a bit akward. It is very difficult to represent the correct sound, and be advised that we are currently working on adjusting it. Both from outside, and from the inside. Hi, First, thx a lot for video. Poly_Phil
Remember that how you percieve gun fire sound from video footage depends on the quality of the microphone of the camera. WinterH
A few things I wonder about SA-342L version : - Will it have same Drax RWR? - I seem to remember reading that SA-342M have a different main rotor than other (older?) versions, which is more optimized for lift / take off weight than maximum speed. If so, will SA-342L have original Gazelle rotor, or will it have the same one as SA-342M? - Also related to above, due to additions of some relatively heavy equipment, SA-342M Viviane is not the fastest helo in DCS, which is fine. I wonder though, will it be different for SA-342L, as it is lighter, will we see differences in flight model regarding speed and hovering performance? - Does all other Gazelle versions than the M, which are without Viviane, use the same optical sight system, and is that the same one as in BO-105? Also, does that system have a laser or other form of rangefinder too? - Will it have the same NADIR navigation system? Thanks in advance for answers :). Ramsay
SA 342J Baseline civil variant with Astazou XIV engine. SA 342K Military export variant. SA 342L Military export variant with refined fenestron.
